In our latest NBA Hit List, which we posted Tuesday morning, we said this about the Pacers: “Since Jan. 30, the Pacers have won three straight, lost three, won three, and currently are on a two-game skid. If that pattern holds, Indy will lose to Phoenix on Tuesday (its third loss in a row), then turn around and knock the Suns off this Friday. We’ll see.” We got the first part right, and the scare Indy put into Phoenix last night showed they definitely have a chance to knock them off on Friday. Jermaine O’Neal (28 pts, 13 rebs, 7 asts, 6 blks) and crew led by 18 with five minutes left in the third until the Suns came back and handed the Pacers their third straight loss. Amare Stoudemire put up 23 points and 18 boards, and Steve Nash had 25 points and 11 dimes, plus a bananas double-bounce pass behind the back to a streaking Leandro Barbosa for a layup … Phoenix’s 18-game win streak from earlier this season was snapped when they traveled to Minnesota and got served by Kevin Garnett. On Tuesday, Dallas took its 12-game win streak into Prince’s hometown and shut KG and the Wolves down, holding Minnesota to 65 points total. The Wolves shot 29 percent from the field (24-for-81). Dirk went for 23 points and 14 boards … LeBron gave the Hornets 35 points, 8 dimes and an L, and he absolutely crowned rookie Hilton Armstrong. Coming off a pick, LeBron knifed into the lane met a brave Hilton in mid-air, took the contact, double-clutched and finished with one hand (grabbing the rim with two) … LeBron’s dunk was sick, but the play of the day was Jason Kidd’s one-hand touch-pass lob to Vince Carter, which VC finished with a two-hand reverse dunk. Vince also played guinea pig for the ongoing Wizards center competition: on one play Vince went baseline and got swatted at the rim by Brendan Haywood (aka “The Red Corner”), and on another play dunked on Etan Thomas (aka “The Blue Corner”) … J-Kidd had 26 points, 8 boards, 9 dimes and 6 threes in Jersey’s win, while Vince scored 27. Gilbert Arenas had his second straight off night, going 7-for-25 from the floor (3-for-12 beyond the arc) but still dropping 26 points … How terrible is Golden State’s defense? They gave up 122 in a loss to the Bucks, getting torched by Michael Redd (31 pts, 6 treys), Charlie Bell (20 pts), Mo Williams (16 pts, 13 asts) and pretty much everyone wearing white and green … The latest on Shaun Livingston is that he’s expected to be miss at least 8 to 12 months, having torn three of the four ligaments in his left knee (ACL, MCL, PCL). He also tore the lateral meniscus and dislocated the patella. If you haven’t seen the injury Shaun suffered on Monday night, we talked about it in detail in yesterday’s Smack. One of the Dime crew who hadn’t seen it yet literally jumped off the couch and dropped his laptop when he first saw the replay yesterday. “It’s probably the most serious injury you can have to the knee,” Clippers physician Dr. Tony Daly told reporters … L.A. signed D-Leaguer Will Conroy to fill the void left at point guard and give Sam Cassell a backup … Jamal Crawford could miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his ankle. That’s a huge blow for the Knicks, who were starting to make a little noise about sneaking into the playoffs. JC is their closer, their best player at creating his own shot, and someone who can catch fire and drop 30 on anyone at anytime. Just ask D-Wade … In college ball, No. 4 Florida lost again, getting 20-pieced by Tennessee for stretches and eventually losing by 10 on the road. Chris Lofton put up 21 points for the Vols, and Al Horford had 17, 10 boards and 4 blocks for the Gators. Just a couple weeks ago in the Dime office we were talking about Florida looking like they could coast to a national title, and since then they’ve dropped games to Vanderbilt, LSU and now Tennessee — three losses in a four-game stretch. Joakim Noah and crew are still gonna be a problem for anyone they go up against in the Big Dance, but they’ve proven to be very vulnerable … We were watching an NBATV old-school replay of a Finals game between Walt Frazier’s Knicks and Wilt’s Lakers. At halftime of the broadcast, we look up and there’s Bob Lanier playing JoJo White 1-on-1. On the Forum court, wearing their game unis, playing 1-on-1. We don’t know if this was a one-year-only thing or not, but apparently there had been an ongoing 1-on-1 tournament with the winner getting $15,000 and Lanier/White was the finals. (Bob used his height and took the chip, winning 21-16.) Does anyone remember this? And, more importantly, why hasn’t it been brought back? Like you wouldn’t watch Ray Allen go 1-on-1 with T-Mac during halftime of a Mavs/Pistons series … We’re out like the Warriors’ D …

What has the NBA turned into to? Everyone is obsessed with box-scores now. David Stern realizes this, that’s why he told his zebras to take away certain privileges from defenders. It’s not uncommon to see SCRUBS score 40 in a game - back when the best player of all time was in the game (MJ) it made NATIONAL news whenever he scored 40. The game is disgusting, catering to stat-happy fantasy losers. The NBA is like McDonald’s - all the wrong kind of calories. Dime - even you guys seem to get caught up in the numbers game. Where was your love for David Lee before Idiot Isiah opened his eyes and gave him minutes??? Somebody please, please bring back the NBA - the REAL NBA.

Yes, I do remember the one on one tournament, and though I remembered Dobber won, I didn’t remember who he beat. You’re right, this is something that should be brought back. I’d love to see the Matrix or Amare sans Nash going against LeBron, or Dirk vs. DWade.

I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch Shaun Livingston’s injury yet. Do you think he’s done? I think Jay Williams will be back before he is.

Yeah, it was right down sick (Shaun’s injury)… it looked like a skateboard injury where the joints bend in a way they are not supposed too.. It just looked like jelo on a stick…

J-Will is already back, well at least I believe this is as far as he goes… he lost his speed and air, his only assets… Shaun on the other hand, when he comes back, if he comes back, is still a 6′7″ point guard who can drop dimes and put up treys… maybe slower or less athletic, still… tall natural point guards will always be an asset…
