Call it a night

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONKobe turned in early on Friday.

The Jazz are trying to hold it together. Last night they got Carlos Boozer (10 pts) and Deron Williams (28 pts, 14 asts) back in the lineup, but were without Mehmet Okur (back) and lost Andrei Kirilenko (knee) during their win over the Nuggets. “It seems like everybody’s in their own world right now,” said Carmelo after the game about his squad. ‘Melo dropped 36, while Allen Iverson, starting at point while Steve Blake came off the bench, scored 33 … Kobe gave the Celtics 22 points in the first quarter, finished with 38, and called it a night late in the third in L.A.’s rout. Paul Pierce scored 15 and also sat out the fourth … Phil Jackson was asked about the possibility of bringing Scottie Pippen into the fold and told reporters, “I anticipate that I will talk to Scottie at some point. We have to entertain the possibility because we’re a little bit short at forward. And a guy with that kind of experience - even with the rapport he has with this team having been at our training camp last year - it makes sense.” If you remember, Pip worked as a special assistant with the Lakers assigned to basically teach Lamar Odom the triangle and make Odom into a 2K version of himself … In other Lakers news, it turns out Vlad Radmanovic lied about the shoulder injury he sustained over All-Star break. Team officials initially believed Vlad hurt himself snowboarding or skiing, but he told them he’d tripped and fell off a curb in L.A. Well, yesterday the truth came out: “I lied about what happened, but I just couldn’t keep it to myself. I did a silly thing by snowboarding — and then I panicked about what was going to happen,” he told reporters before the Celtics game. Radmanovic is going to be out for two months. “Unfortunately, before I stepped on that board, I wasn’t really thinking about the things that could happen and that it could become something that could finish my career.” It was Vlad’s first time snowboarding … Jason Kidd, cracked rib and sore back and off-court drama and trade rumors and all, had a triple-double (22 pts, 13 rebs, 10 asts) against the Kings last night … The Suns got some get-back on the Wolves, who you remember ended Phoenix’s big win streak a few weeks ago. Last night Phoenix went to Minnesota and won easily, getting 27 points from Shawn Marion, 15 dimes from Steve Nash, and “holding” Kevin Garnett to 28 points and 19 bounds. KG dropped 44 on the Suns the last time they played … Gilbert Arenas dropped 36 on the Bulls - including 18 straight at one point - but admitted afterwards that Luol Deng “canceled me out” with his 32 and 11 boards … We noticed something during Knicks/Bucks. With time ticking down in the fourth and the score tied, Isiah didn’t call his trusty “give Jamal Crawford the ball and clear-out” play. Instead Steph was given the green light, and missed a fadeaway. The Knicks pulled it out in OT, though. Marbury and Crawford both scored 22 … Blazers/Grizzlies was another close finish. Portland cut the lead to one on a Brandon Roy three, then fouled Damon Stoudamire with 0.8 ticks left. Mighty Mouse (when was the last time anyone called him that?) hit the first freebie and missed the second on purpose. Ime Udoka got the rebound and stumbled, but Lawrence Roberts was called for a loose-ball foul on the play (when is that call ever made?). The refs put 0.8 back on the clock and gave Udoka two free throws. He made the first but missed the second, and it was over … Adam Morrison to the media after Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff left the ‘Cats/Sixers game after getting sick in the first quarter: “I don’t want to hate on coach, but when older people say they feel lightheaded you get a little worried. But he said he was fine at halftime, so we weren’t too concerned after that. He’ll be all right.” Morrison scored 19 in Charlotte’s blowout win … We’re out like Radmanovic …

Knicks/Bucs didn’t make it to OT..Bogut fouled Frye before time expired..
he hit two free throws with .8 seconds..the Bucs couldn’t get a shot off

I congratulate Smack for not writing anything about games like the Magic/Pistons or the Raptors/Pacers - you know, games with actual playoff implications… Thanks for the update on Isiah Thomas’ coaching strategy in a game between two teams out of the playoff race. Real insight!… It’s always good to know I can count on Smack to cover every Knick game while other analysts waste their time covering games that are important (for non-draft reasons)…I’m out like Smack’s credibility…

  3. High Release says:

“The Knicks pulled it out…” is what you say about that?! More like the ref pulled out some Booooolsheeet foul on Bogut to give them some throws with no time left. Did you then not see the over-the-back applied to Bogut on the opposite end? No? Pffft.

Is a new person writing smack now???? The feel and the flow of Smack seems to have changed dramatically recently, not just the format. Bring back the OLD SMACK!!!!!!!!!!!! Pleeeeeease
