Yesterday we posed the question to you guys: Who would you take with the No. 1 pick in the ‘07 NBA Draft? Of course the two top candidates are Kevin Durant and Greg Oden. Tell us what you think, and just be glad y’all can give your opinions for free; yesterday, the Bobcats and Warriors were reportedly fined $15,000 apiece for comments made by Michael Jordan about Durant, and Don Nelson about Durant and Oden. Mike told the Charlotte Observer, “The kid who may present that (versatility) is the kid in Texas. [He] may have that because he has all the right signs.” Why is this even a rule? Is the intent to prevent NBA teams from persuading college prospects from coming out early? Because KD and Greg are grown men, and even if one NBA official complimenting them is enough to push them into the Draft, that’s still their decision as grown men. What you’ve done now is create an environment where people like MJ and Nellie are now encouraged to lie if they’re asked about draft prospects — plus, we all know every Lottery squad has their radar locked in on those two already … Light schedule yesterday, with only two NBA games and a few NIT tips on the docket. The Hornets smacked the Celtics, or as Paul Pierce put it, “They pretty much had their way with us.” Chris Paul went for 15 points, five boards, six dimes and three steals, while Tyson Chandler had 16 points and 11 boards and Rasual Butler dropped 18 off the bench … Pierce scored 28 for the C’s. Did you realize that Allan Ray and Leon Powe are getting more tick than Sebastian Telfair now? Funny how Bassy was traded from Portland in part because they had three PGs and needed to unload one of them, and now he’s in Boston playing third-string in another three-PG competition with Delonte West and Rajon Rondo. It’s only a matter of time before Telfair ends up playing for the Knicks, right? … Plays of the game: Cedric Simmons had a sick alley oop where he flipped the script and crammed on Gerald Green, and Devin Brown pulled a Josh Smith on Allan Ray and smacked his layup off the glass … Speaking of J-Smoove, he had a crazy reverse double-clutch lob finish and gave the Kings nine points, 12 boards and 10 dimes, missing out on a triple-double when he bricked two FTs in the fourth. “Yes, I knew,” Smith said afterwards. “I’ve been close before. It will happen again. I kind of hurts a little bit.” The Hawks routed Sacramento, with Josh Childress outscoring the Kings by himself in the third quarter, 16-8. Childress finished with 25 points … The Big Dance is off until Thursday, but in the meantime we handed out our Sweet 16 Report Cards, grading our our pre-Tournament “Players 2 Watch” through the tourney’s first weekend … In the NIT, Syracuse rolled on San Diego State, getting 20 points from Demetris Nichols and 15 (all on treys) from Andy Rautins; DePaul beat Kansas State behind Wilson Chandler (18 pts) and Sammy Mejia (18 pts); Air Force cruised past Georgia; and Clemson beat Ole Miss. Remember when Clemson was undefeated and seemed like a lock for the Big Dance? What happened? … Stanford freshman center Brook Lopez announced he’s staying in school for at least another year. Lopez put up 12 points, six boards and 1.7 blocks a night, including one game where he dominated USC for 18 points, 11 bounds and 12 blocks. Not the most eye-popping numbers (except for that triple-double), but seeing as Brook is 7-1 and functionally athletic, he’s at least a first-round pick if he comes out … Clyde Drexler survived Round 1 of “Dancing with the Stars,” rocking a bright orange shirt and a perma-smile … One of the Dime crew was at NYC’s Stereo nightclub on Monday. Who goes clubbin’ on Monday? Well, apparently Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, Q-Rich, J.R. Smith and DerMarr Johnson do … We’re out like Bassy’s tick …
