Our favorite OTHER Ways to Bet on the Tourney

Just in case you’re tired of filling out brackets, we thought we’d give you some other ways you can have a little fun with the Tourney and possibly win some cash. Here are 4 other ways you can bet on the tournament.

“Puckett’s Pool” - We’re not sure if he invented this pool, but when Kirby Puckett played for the Twins, he’d have 64 friends put in an undisclosed amount of money (we’ve heard $2000 a person before but have no idea if that’s true or not). Participants would then draw team names out of a hat. The person who pulled the winner would be the sole winner of the cash.

The Team Draft - We suggest going with an 8 person league and each participant gets 8 draft picks. Here’s how it works. You draft the entire field of 64 teams. The draft snakes, so the person who picks last in the first round, also picks 1st in the second round. The scoring breaks down sort of like it would in a normal brackets pick em game. You get 1 point for a round 1 win 2 points for a round 2 win, 4 points for round 3 win, 8 points for a round 4 win, 16 points for a round 5 win, and 25 points for the championship win. The squad with the most points at the end wins.

The Auction - We’ve heard about action leagues. First off, they’re awesome. Second, if you’re in one of these leagues, you have cash. Here’s how it works. You have a straight cash auction to pick teams you think will win the tournament. It’s a bidding war. And this isn’t one team per participant, you can bid for more than one team. People also team up and pool their cash. So if you want Carolina badly enough, you and your boy may combine your money and share that squad. This gets crazy. Inevitably, someone with serious money will bid a whole lot of money on the top seeds and the guys with less money will hope for a George Mason like run on a $1 Vanderbilt pick. This is winner take all.

Top Gun Fantasy Draft - This is an easy one and a whole lot of fun also. You can do this with as many guys as you want, but we suggest keeping the number under 10. Here’s the deal. Straight fantasy draft of players. You draft up to 8 players. We suggest either drafting 8 players or 5 players. The scoring is on going throughout the tournament with points, assists, and boards each equaling 1 point. So if your player gets 10 points, 8 boards, and 3 assists in the first round, you get 21 points. If that guy’s team loses, he’s done scoring for you. Get it? Total amount of fantasy points at the end of the tournament wins.
