Having joystick moves on the court is one thing, but LeBron James was acting like he was really in a video game in crunch-time of Cavs/Heat. Holding for the last shot, LeBron dribbled around the arc forever — even while being doubled by Eddie Jones and J-Will — and took a three that bricked at the buzzer when someone else had to have been open. You know how you played hoop video games as a kid and let your star dominate the game without even a thought to passing? That’s what ‘Bron looked like on that play. In the TNT studio afterwards, Charles Barkley kept screaming at the replay, “Pass the ball! Pass the ball! Pass the ball!” … In the OT, the Cavs were down three when LeBron (35 pts, 9 rebs, 5 asts) got caught in the air trying to make a pass and turned it over to J-Will. ‘Bron hit a three in the final few seconds to make it interesting, but Jones intercepted an inbounds on Cleveland’s next possession to end it … Tough loss for the Cavs, but we’re sure Larry Hughes took it especially hard … Earlier in the second half, James Posey was on a breakaway and took about eight steps without a dribble before going up for a dunk … Don’t you hate people who make signs that are nothing but shameless attempts to get on TV? Like the guy at the Heat game who had an “I Love Charles Barkley” sign. And don’t you hate when the shameless attempt always works? … Barkley’s summary of “new-school” ball: “Players today have a lot more talent, but they’re dumber than damn rocks.” … The April 2007 issue of Dime is on newsstands now, with Kevin Durant on the cover. Check out this mini-preview of Issue 32, where we feature Dirk Nowitzki and Deron Williams, unveil our latest edition of “Ask Ron,” and preview the Jordan Brand All-American Classic, among tons of other good stuff. We’ll hit you with a few items for the new issue over the next few days … The Spurs pretty much had their way with the Suns except for one late Phoenix rally. And that rally ended when Leandro Barbosa got swatted by Tim Duncan (22 pts, 10 rebs, 5 blks), and Steve Nash tried to skip a pass between TD’s legs and Amare couldn’t handle it … San Antonio kept the game at their pace: At halftime the score was still in the 30s and the Suns hadn’t even cracked 70 well into the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Tony Parker was killing anyone lined up in front of him (mostly Nash). Parker dropped 35 points, plus the dagger on an elbow J that essentially ended it … When Nash and Bruce Bowen got into it going after a loose ball, Steve Kerr called it the “most exciting play of the game.” … Gilbert Arenas will be out for 2-3 months with his knee injury, which pretty much puts the 37-cent stamp on the Wizards season and we’d assume it means Arenas will sit out the Team USA Olympic qualifying tournament this summer. Not going too well for Team USA right now; Arenas is probably out, D-Wade probably won’t play with his shoulder injury, Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce are both hurt right now and may not wanna risk it, and LeBron is reportedly waffling on whether or not he wants to play. But we did hear that Deron Williams will be invited into the fam, and Jason Kidd has said he wants to play. It’s also been whispered that Kevin Durant and Greg Oden will get invites … Some stuff from Arenas’ blog on NBA.com about the injury: “I told them to cut the leg off a couple times. You know, cut it off and then bring it back to me when it was all healed. Because, you know, Heather Mills on Dancing with the Stars, she had that leg. I was saying I could borrow one of those and finish out the season. But they wasn’t going for that.” … And more from Gil: “I made everyone laught today at the hospital. They enjoyed my company. Just telling jokes, you know. They did a great job. We had fun today. I actually got the surgery done today. I don’t know what it felt like. See, that’s the good part: I was KNOCKED OUT!” … Desmond Mason might be out for the year with a broken cheek and nose. Des Mase was taken out by a Chris Wilcox elbow the other night. In that same game, Wilcox landed on Tyson Chandler’s foot and aggravated Tyson’s turf toe. Weezy was basically a one-man wrecking crew on the Hornets. Chris Paul got hurt in that game, too, but we don’t think Wilcox was involved in that one … Billy Donovan said he’s not going anywhere, but what are the chances he gets a 3rd chip next year without any of his starters? Joakim Noah, Al Horford, Corey Brewer and Taurean Green all declared for the NBA Draft yesterday, and Lee Humphrey is a senior already … Arizona’s Marcus Williams (agent) and Washington’s Spencer Hawes (no agent) are also declaring … Dirk to the Dallas Morning News on the food poisoning that kept him out against Sacramento: “It was coming out of everywhere.” T-M-I, homeboy. T-M-I … Grant Hill to Florida Today about the weak foul he got called for against Chris Bosh the other day: “They say [Bosh] is the Michael Jordan of Canada. Man, I guess they weren’t lying.” … We’re out like Dem Gator Boyz …

Yo, I just got a flash back and a reminder of how great Shawn Kemp was. NBA.com is featuring his “Top” 10 dunks. So sick and funny. It’s easy to forget how dominant he was at times in the Sonic years and how entertaining the league was when players were allowed to have personality on the court. We look at Amare and marvel at times, but Amare before the injury wasn’t as explosive as Kemp. Just sick…
I love watching Kemp and Dominique videos, because they were probably to of the most Explosive athletes to ever play in the league. We have some explosive guys in the league now (Desmond, Jason richardson (when healthy), Amare, Dwight, wilcox, Wade, Bron, Kobe, etc), but NONE of them attacks the basket and defenders consistently like Kemp and Dominique. Just Nasty… remember when dominique was out of the league for a while and came back, with I think the Spurs, and was still dunking on people??
I miss that NBA more than I thought. That was the game I grew up loving. This stuff now is cute, but it’s not the same battles and it doesn’t have the same heart as it use to…
