Invincible?

Hard to believe that the Cavs, flawed as they are, still sit undefeated in the playoffs. Considering their perfect record, we don’t even rank the Cavs that high in our latest NBA Hit List. Anyone not wearing stunner-shade-sized wine/gold/blue-colored glasses knows this team isn’t that good outside of LeBron, and obviously they’ve benefited from the easiest draw of any remaining playoff team, but they’re nonetheless handling their business and winning games. Can’t say much against that … LeBron put up 36 points (25 in the second half) and 12 dimes in last night’s Game 2 win over the Nets. ‘Bron had the sneer going and you knew he’d decided his team wasn’t losing that game no matter what. Remember last year when LeBron was putting up numbers like this and headlining everything? Now it’s just routine. Or it could be that no one is talking about ‘Bron because no on has been watching Cavs/Wizards or Cavs/Nets … You know what’s crazy? If you went to any Cavs fan and said, “For the rest of the playoffs, you have to give up either Larry Hughes or Sasha Pavlovic,” no question everyone would choose to keep Pavlovic. And keep in mind, Larry makes about $14 million more than Sasha … Here’s Smack reader Matthew with a few observations/questions: “1. Why did the Rockets give up on Bostjan Nachbar? They sure as hell coulda used him in the first round. 2. Why oh why did my Nets not draft Hakim Warrick and instead went with Antoine Wright? 3. Have you ever seen a second-tier star (Richard Jefferson) get less calls? Dude gets hammered each time he drives.” … Phoenix evened up its series by 20-piecing the Spurs. Funny how not long ago in Smack we were talking about there not being an NBA equivalent to Curt Schilling’s bloody sock, and now Steve Nash’s nose band-aid might get that honor (corny as that sounds). Phoenix fans were wearing the “Nash band-aid” in the crowd last night, and someone even put a band-aid on the nose of Nash’s statue outside the arena … Hold on. There’s a statue of Steve Nash outside Phoenix’s arena? Really? He’s not even retired yet. Fall back, people. Seriously … Nash dropped 16 dimes and 20 points yesterday, and it seemed Amare Stoudemire (27 pts) finished most of those assists on rolls to the cup. Marv Albert wasn’t talking reckless when he said Nash and Amare could be this generation’s Stockton and MaloneTim Duncan (29 pts, 11 rebs) was trying to bring SA back by himself for stretches at a time, but couldn’t get every bounce, and wasn’t getting any help. In fact, the Spurs in general were just getting beat to the necessary spots on the floor all night; the Suns out-hustled them … Welcome Francisco Elson, the newest member of the Marcus Camby Memorial “How Do You Miss a Two-Hand Dunk When You’re 7-Feet Tall?” club … The Charlotte Observer said Mike Fratello and Herb Williams have interviewed for the Bobcats opening. And according to every other media outlet around the South, Billy Donovan is interviewing for any NBA job in the region …

Hard to believe? Any team in the playoffs could have swept the Wizards without Gil and Caron - So no surprises there. Then LeBron starts trying and they win a whole 2 more games! Wow. Incredible. But really really not hard to believe.

  2. Bron says:

The rockets got rid of Boki because:
    A) He plays scared alot and chucks up too many 3s
B)Gerald Wallace (when he was ont he kings) nearly ended his career by dunkin on him from almost the foul line when he was a rocket.

Nash has a statue? he better have aids or something cause he SURE hasn’t done enough title wise to garnish a state. Does duncan even have a statue?

Camby missed cuz he went for that “old man, hope I made this in time” 2 handed dunk, elson is actually kinda springy at times so I was surprised he missed it.

Hakkim Warrick was compared to mikki more draft night cuz he had no jumper so alot of teams slept on him.

And lets calm down, neither the nets or the cavs would beat the pistons

  3. Tom from Cleveland says:

Keep sleepin’ on the Cavs. They play the kind of defense that gets you very far in the playoffs.

I see what you guys are saying about Nash + STAT = Stockton + Malone, but I don’t think they’re really anywhere close yet. I’m not even talking about skill-level; I’m talking about the fact that Stockton and Malone were together for so long, in the same place, and had so much success. There have probably been a ton of good PG + PF combos in the last 10 years that only lasted a couple seasons. I’m pulling for them, but let’s not get too hasty.

    …who are you out like?!

  5. HoopsKing says:

NJ made a lot of mistakes in drafting Wright. Granger and Warrick were on the board and for the life of me I still can’t figure out why they picked Wright, not to mention why the keep renewing Jason Collins’ contract, but that’s another story.

Kidd to Warrick would have been something to watch.

First of all. Nash doesn’t have a statue here in phoenix. At least not yet. So BRON please don’t refer Nash as to having Aids because that’s ignorant and stupid. Maybe you can make fun of the Pat Tillman statue while your at it. Second I guarentee you there is nobody more determined to win a championship more than Steve Nash right now. He might not win the MVP this year but he will be the Finals MVP this year and I would rather have that. Please enjoy basketball fans because the best basketball in the world is being played right here in Phoenix, Az. Peace

  7. gus says:

wait a minute. where’s the “We’re out like…” that closes every smack? you can’t leave that out!!

  8. dank says:

Phoenix is the worst city ever. they are desperate for a hero, and they “think” its Steve Nash. I hope the whole state of Arizona gets cancer and the city of phoenix burns down ferociously with this upcoming wildfire season.

yea, J-Kidd to Warrick, Carter, and/or RJ wouldve turned out nasty. that would be a dunk contest on every other play. remember when J-kidd was better than Steve Nash? oh wait he still is. yea steve nash gets triple doubles too every once in a while…15 Pts, 23 Assists, and 42 TOs. thats always a good statline. its not like Jason Kidd averages triple doubles for a whole playoff series or plays defense, usually on bigger guys. oh yea Nash has real value. and comparing Nash to stockton? lets go people, stockton had 10000 more points and a crapload of more assists. keep the comparisons in ur pants.

  9. K-Dizzle says:

WOW!!! Did I miss something? Where’d all the Nash haters come from? Jason Kidd is better than Nash? Because he tripled-doubled against the Raptors? Dude, watch some games. He’s lucky RJ got that steal otherwise he’d be golfin right now. Where was Jason Kidd the last 3 seasons when Nash is rackin up MVPs? Don’t forget the Nets snuck in in the last month of the season. If your memories are scrambled, let me clear it for you. Nash, Stockton, Kidd have among them ZERO championships and TWO MVPs. Stop the comparisons. Stockton’s Hall of Fame and Kidd has bigger problems with L. Hughes. If Nash doesn’t crack his schnoz on Parker’s head ( who , by the way, went down better than a soccer player), San Antonio is down 2-0. Stop talkin turnovers cuz that’s a weak argument. Damn! Didn’t we already have this discussion? If you wanna rip someone, rip on Nowitzki; that shell might be your MVP. And for the dude who “remembers” when Stevie Franchise used to always “KILL” B.Davis, you better throw out some dates cuz NOBODY has ever abused Too Easy. There’s a reason Stevie’s been traded TWICE and keeps becoming more and more insignificant. If N’Awlins didn’t have Chris Paul, they’d be cryin about tradin B-Davis. Damn! Come with some real stuff…
