What’s in the Box?

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONWhat’s in the Box?

Today’s present in the mail was a package of preview press info for the new Halo 3 game. We weren’t so much into Halo 2, but that could be because Halo 1 almost ended all of our relationships with our wives/girlfriends.

We’ve been hearing about Halo 3 for months, and its release might be the biggest ever for the video game industry. It’s huge in NBA circles too, especially with Gilbert Arenas. There might not be a greater proponent of the series than Agent Zero. Over the years, Gil’s told us that he’s spent entire summers attached to Halo, pretty much only leaving his house to work out. This past summer, Gil told us about how he basically sponsors the best Halo team in the world - a group of dudes who go by “Final Boss,” traveling the world wrecking Halo tournaments. Gil says he goes with them, but doesn’t play, preferring to cheer them on.

Arenas says he’s had a demo for months now and that the game is sick…

Attached are some shots from the official Halo 3 release party.

yo austin, speakin of games..the other day you did the fantasy problems of oden gettin hurt..but what about video games?

I mean do they even put oden in nba 2k8(live will suck no matter who they have in it)? Is he going to be in the game but be like a 41 rating ala paul shirly? Or do they leave him out completely and just bring him in next year with a high rating like its his first year? Or maybe its like football where you play dynasty mode and guys start off the season with real life injuries like mcnabb in madden but get better over time? whats your vibe on it.

I think Oden gets the Correll Buckhalter Treatment. Like you mentioned with McNabb, there was a time when Buckhalter missed two seasons in a row with knee injuries, so in Madden you could use him for exhibition games, but if you started a season he’d already be on the IR and out for the year. If you did Franchise mode, Buckhalter would become available the next year. As far as ratings, they’ll rate Oden whatever he would have been rated pre-injury. He’s already in Live — I saw a preview of it a couple days before the Draft. And he’s in Sony’s NBA 08 (saw it a couple weeks ago). We’re gonna have someone at a College Hoops 2K preview next week; I’ll try to get them to ask the 2K people about Oden.

I thought the Halo team was called “Final Boss.” Regardless of the name I heard those dudes kick a$$ and take names when it comes to Halo.

the more I read about gilbert arenas the more i like the guy. i’m a sixers/spurs fan living in the D.C. area.. I might have to pay a little more attention to that team… after all, they were the #1 team in the east for a while early last year until injuries hit.
