Reebok’s Voltron kicks

The other night some of the Dime crew (myself, Christian and Naomi) hit up NYC’s Gansevoort Hotel for a look at Reebok’s Voltron sneaker collection. Pretty exclusive-type stuff, with a bunch of people left waiting in the hotel lobby and ultimately getting turned away. We got in no problem, though, to check out the Voltron kicks and some of the other ’08 product from Reebok’s lifestyle line. (Thanks, Mandy.) The setup was dope, including a giant Voltron model robot on display — and someone actually managed to steal one of the arms on their way out. I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge Voltron fan as a kid (I was all about G-I Joe, Transformers and He-Man), so I’m no expert on the cartoon by any means, but the kicks are hot; I found myself mentally putting together outfits to go with every version. And I heard from some of Reebok’s people that there’s a live-action movie version of Voltron in the works now, with Pharrell doing the soundtrack.

   They look like shoes my baby brother would wear! Some nice nostalgia for those of us who were kids when Voltron was on TV (back when Saturday morning cartoons actually existed and were good).

   Man we had Voltron, Thundercats, Speed Racer, Go-Bots, Transformers, G I Joe, Justice League and Fat Albert. Cartoons were really good back then. Now kids have Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon (I can’t stand that mess). I won’t lie though…I do like the K.N.D. If you don’t know what that is …step your cartoon game up. LOL
