Sonic Doom
Ray Allen had a Sonics flashback. KG and Pierce had the night off against Philly, Leon Powe and Brian Scalabrine took their respective places, and poor Ray was left to carry a mediocre roster, just like he did so often in Seattle — and this time he wouldn’t even have Rashard Lewis to help him out. Ray’s new crew got hammered by the Sixers, who were so short-handed that Reggie Evans started at center, and Ray struggled (16 pts, 5-for-13 FGs, 0-for-5 3PA) … His old team, meanwhile, was busy getting a T-Mac 30-spot dumped on their collective heads and giving up 117 points total to the Rockets. Kevin Durant went for 25 in his home debut, but P.J. has to do something about that defense … J.R. Smith just doesn’t get it. He’s already deep into George Karl‘s doghouse, and he has to know the Nuggets are shopping him around like hot stereo equipment. So common sense says that J.R. should really avoid doing anything stupid right now; something that would only hurt his trade value and make it less likely he’ll be able to salvage his career somewhere else. So of course J.R. went and did something (“conduct detrimental to the team,” but details hadn’t been released last we checked) to get himself suspended for the first three games of the regular season … From the Nuggets’ side of things, the suspension doesn’t hurt them that much. Their first three games are at Seattle, at Minnesota, and the Hornets at home. Even if Karl was planning to use J.R. in the regular rotation (and it didn’t look like he was), they should at least go 2-1 in the stretch regardless … Some of the Dime crew dropped by Niketown in NYC yesterday for the grand opening of the store’s NIKEiD Studio (where you can customize you’re own kicks, lab-style). David Wright was in the house, drawing a ton of young ladies in tight Mets t-shirts and #5 jerseys. Sway, DJ Clark Kent and Alana Beard also showed up. Lil’ Mama (“Lip Gloss”) performed a couple of songs, too … And speaking of kicks, Bounce is giving away free sneakers every day for the rest of this month. Today it’s a pair of once-worn white Air Force 1s that Carmelo Anthony actually rocked in a Dime cover photo shoot. Click here and you could be the winner … No way the Knicks were actually gonna cut Allan Houston. We knew that much from the time he signed on with them. Instead, a few days after Isiah admitted H20′s chances of making the roster were slim, Allan decided to end his comeback — or at least that’s the company line around MSG. We’d venture to guess that, best-case scenario, it was a mutual decision … Penny Hardaway‘s Memphis homecoming wasn’t much of a party. He put up 2 points, 6 boards and 3 assists in 15 minutes in a loss to the Grizzlies … Adam Morrison went down holding his knee and screaming during the Bobcats/Lakers game and had to be carried off the court. It looked really bad. It was originally diagnosed as a strain, but it could be much worse. Adam’s having an MRI this morning … Books, TV shows, clothing lines, blogs, failed NBA comebacks — you just can’t get away from The Christies. Now they have a radio show. It’s an empire, people. Roll with it or get rolled over … We’re out like H20 …

ya it is terrible and she looks like lil bow wow in drag but at least its better than “the packs” new song about their car. I’ma bout to boycott bounce mag until ya’ll start givin away bigger shoes lol we all aint 5’9 ya know. I guess people weren’t jokin when they said Durant would get his while gettin abused. Its kinda like when lebron first came, all the “old” stars had to make their presence felt the first time they played him. Sorta keep him in check. You think ray put up a struggle about playin when he heard Kg and Paul were sittin out? “but um…my ankles…um…hurtin again..ya thats it..cant i sit out? aw come on man….dammit not again” then again it was the sixers so he probably wasn’t worried THAT much.

Can we just call it a day and call J.R. Smith “DeShawn Stevenson Part II?” Straight out of high school, talented as hell, but too stupid for their own good.

time for denver to part ways with this guy. it’s not even like he makes great plays all the time. he’s too up and down. too streaky. and makes boneheaded plays in critical games. for all that talent, he’ll bring them down in the end. It will tell me a lot about denver if they find a way to get rid of this guy soon. that will show everyone they are serious about winning a championship this year.

The details of J.R. Smith’s “conduct” are laid out in the Denver Post. Seems J.R. is in trouble with the law, to wit: “J.R. Smith has been issued a summons to appear in court to answer to allegations of destruction of private property, disturbing the peace and assault. The incident to place at DC-10 lounge at 940 Lincoln on Oct. 13. “There was a disturbance and a fight and a call for an ambulance,” said Lt. Ron Saunier. Smith will miss games against Seattle, Minnesota and New Orleans.”

Now for those not closely following his other legal problem, the Monmouth County, NJ, prosecutor has yet to rule on whether charges should be filed against J.R. in the death of his best friend, Andre Bell. He has been charged there with reckless driving, failing to heed a stop sign, etc. etc.
This kid doesn’t need a new team. He needs some serious help or he is headed in the direction of Eddie Griffin, meaning a head-first, full-speed lunge into a chemical tank car at a rural railroad crossing. If the NBA and players’ association were serious about players’ health, they would require psychiatric counseling for this kid. Keep him on the payroll. They suspend kids for smoking weed but let others like Griffin and Smith spiral downward.
