Note the sarcasm of this post’s title. I had planned on putting together some thoughts today on the Sixers‘ opener last night in all of its frustrating/depressing glory, but one of my favorite blogs, The 700 Level, already did it for me.
Pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it?

It’s just a shame how “fans” can become so apathetic so fast. We are projected to be one of the worst teams by everyone. As philly fans why don’t we take on the mantle of being the underdog in every game and support our team and rally around them like we did when Iverson first came. A lot of the effort and excitement at sixers games is because of the fan support. When fans lost their passion the team lost their fight…
I’m routing for the Sixers to sneak up and eek out 35-40 wins. I saw Louis making plays, but along with Jason Smith who were both productive the coaches didn’t see fit to let them play more than 15mins, a good portion of which was in the comeback. Louis is our best guard, because he creates on offense. he can open up the floor. Jason and Rodney need time on the floor. Willie should be coming off the bench at this point. Sam is Sam…At this point it’s a coaching issue. If he lacks focus put him in a role where he can foul out and just go all out. That 4 pt play hurt, but in his mind he was thinking if I can just block this. If he gets a piece of that we wouldn’t appreciate it, but whatever.
Let the team develop and it would be fun if we weren’t expecting them to dominate the division champs…And don’t say we don’t expect them to dominate, when we are complaining about them actually competing. We are still figuring out what’s best out their. Williams need more time. Carney needs more time/confidence. Sam needs a vet on the floor with him. Iggy needs to not turn the ball over and start posting more…Kyle looked great out there, Reggie did what we needed Reggie to do.
Toronto is a shooting team that shares the ball. Sixer’s have always had trouble keeping up and not getting blown out by those teams. Even with Iverson in the hay day. That’s where speed and mobility comes in to play…i.e More Jason, Lou, Rodney, and eventually Thad…
They defended Bosh well, but no one was rotating on Bargnani, which is part of the reason why Sam was over compensating on the close out/bad block attempt that lead to the 4pt play. People always dog one guy, because the end result, but their is a lot more that went in to why Sam contested the way he did. Sixers defensive rotations were horrible until Williams and smith was in with Iggy. Sam needs someone on the floor to bark at him, because we don’t have a coach with a voice…
We’ll see how it goes. I enjoy the growth and look forward to Iguodala and Lou Williams emerging if the coaches give him the opportunity they waste on Willie for some reason. I like Willie, but he gets soo many opportunities, because he is safe, when guys are more talented, but can’t get the time…
I’m done…

kudabeen, you’re right on all counts.
also, we’ve always had problems with the teams that have a big time PF. Boston unfortunately is going to kill us. the knicks, as horrible as they are mentally, might actually hurt us cause of this. orlando is going to pound us.
where is our dominant big man? i swear this franchise treats PF’s like kryptonite.

Will we ever be able to hear the sweet strains of McFadden and Whitehead and truly believe “There Ain’t No Stopping Us Now?” I pray for the return of that day.
