Daily Fantasy - Week 2 Pick Ups and Drops

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONSay goodbye to Matt Barnes … for now. (Photo. Joaquin Palting)

Week 1 is over and if you’re a serious owner, you’ve probably made some cuts and are debating others. Here is a breakdown of the guys that most likely got drafted who had an “eh” first week that you should either be patient with or give the heave ho. I also give you the week 1 free agents that if haven’t found homes by now in your league, should immediately be picked up. As always, if you have any questions, trade proposals, or fantasy issues you want to run by the Doc, just leave it in the comments section.

Don’t Cut… Yet

Nene - Nene was pretty consistently awful and Kenyon was somewhat consistently good in week 1. Nene is working his way into shape. Give it a few weeks.

Jason Maxiell - I might have said to cut him yesterday morning, but after watching him last night (boarding, scoring, and blocking shots all over the place), I think you have to give him another week or two to see what happens with his minutes.

Ryan Gomes - I actually cut him and am regretting it.

Yi Jianlian - He definitely stunk week one, but I really think if you can wait, you should.

Peace (aka Cut)

Juan Carlos Navarro - At some point later on this season, the Grizzlies might make Navarro the man, but that seems pretty far off.

Matt Barnes - He’ll be back on a roster at some point, but he’s getting no burn.

Steve Francis - I’m not saying stick a fork in him, but unless rosters are very very very deep and you can be crazy patient, you have to say peace to Franchise.

Pick Up

Reggie Evans - Evans could average 10 boards a game. Just expect nothing else.

Hedo Turkoglu - Hedo looks absurd right now. Always a good shooter, Turkoglu is boarding, and really has a feel for his role in the Magic offense.

Mike Dunleavy - I’m so not a believer that this is real, but at the same time, you have to get him in the line up right now.

Kelenna Azubuike - It’s really not a fluke week. This kid has real talent. He showed that in streaks last season as well.

Cat Mobley - I’m not sure why, but he wasn’t taken in our league’s draft. He’s definitely been picked up though.

John Salmons - I really couldn’t decide on this one. He had an absurd week one, but really isn’t that good. But for a week or two, he’s a nice solution if you have guard problems.

Martell Webster - The first week wasn’t out of the blue. The kid had a great preseason as well. Expect between 15 and 20 points per game this year. Really.

I am being offered a trade Deron Williams for D-Wade….What is my move??? I have D Williams.

  2. Big Lu says:

And 1 more… I have kirk and im thinkin of trading him for diaw… Can I get a better deal??? Is this deal any good for me???

  3. mavid says:

Trade Deron for Wade. Wade is a top 10 fantasy player, Deron is not. That’s a no-brainer.

Do not trade Kirk for Diaw. Kirk is about 20-30 spots higer than Diaw in any sort of rankings.

  4. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Comment 1 - Go get Wade!

Comment 2 - Stick with Hinrich

  5. flyp says:

I feel your Kirk pain though. Tough start.

  6. Gregg says:

    keep Deron!

Percentages aside, Deron gives you 3’s and his assist numbers will be consistently tops in the league. Plus there is always the uncertainty that Wade is not 100% and might reinjure himself

  7. Joe says:

Standard 10 team 8 cat roto league, I’m looking for the best available player who can also help me in steals. Options are:

    Ronnie Brewer
    Devin Harris
    Larry Hughes
    Sebastian Telfair
    Martell Webster

  8. j m geezy says:

KEEP DERON. CONSISTENT ASST, FG%, FT% AND SCORING. PLUS, HE IS DURABLE! DWADE IS COMING OFF OF SHOULDER AND KNEE SURGERY AND HAS MISSED ALOT OF GAMES THE PAST 2 YEARS. PLUS, THE HEAT WILL STRUGGLE AND DWADE WILL SEE PLENTY OF DOUBLE TEAMS WITH A FAT SHAQ AND A HOT/COLD RICKEY BUCKETS

  9. tbone says:

    #6

go with brewer or webster.. brewer if you need %’s and webster if you need 3’s.. brewer might eventually give you some 3’s… but we’re just 3 games in and he hasnt shot too many.

  10. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Joe, you’re really talking about Harris, Webster, or Brewer. I’m not a big Harris fan. I like him as a player, but not as a fantasy player. That leaves Brewer and Webster. I think Brewer is probably the better option for steals. He also plays for the better team and should be a little more consistent than Webster.

  11. tom says:

is it too early to put amare stoudemire on the trading block? should i try and trade him for the diggler?

  12. Gregg says:

I’d trade STAT for Dirk Diggler.

And as for the previous post I’d get Webster. He’s a starter with guaranteed minutes. Once or if Brewer screws up, Sloan has will pull him regardless. The only people behind Webster are James Jones, Outlaw, and Darius Miles who are all unreliable at this point.

  13. Big Lu says:

I understand percentages and steals and all that are important, but isnt the overall fantasy pts the most important??

  14. the fantasy patient says:

Is Kristc worth owning? I had high expectations and am starting to get disappointed.

  15. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Krstic is coming off knee surgery and you need to be a little patient. He’s still going to be a good second center.

And healthy or injured, I’d trade Amare for Dirk in a second.

  16. Sheedfan87 says:

Blazers fan speaking agree, and I don’t agree with such high averages for Webster. I like Martell’s game and he’s beginning to come around but someone who has never averaged double digits before isn’t immeditaely jumping to 15 per game in my eyes. He has gotten off to a good start, and I would love to see it, but it just doesn’t seem likely in my eyes. 12 ppg seems more realistic to me.

  17. finance_lady23 says:

Ok I need help. 10 player/team roto league.

    Here’s my roster:

    dirk
    kidd
    yao
    andre miller
    ray allen
    michael redd
    mike miller
    zach randolph
    al jefferson
    emeka okafor

right now in my league, i’m a little low on points, and i’m very low on blocks, steals, and 3’s, but i’m first in rebounds and i’m good on turnovers.

what moves should i make? its only a 7 team league, so there’s lots of players out there…

    any suggestions would be awesome

  18. big_daddy says:

    @finance_lady23

you seem to have a good lineup, maybe it’s just the first week but with players dirk, redd, allen and miller, you have the potential to lead your league in 3s and do well in points…

blocks is really hard to fill up but having yao, okafor and big al is not that bad. :)

  19. marcus says:

    holla G’s…

i’ve been propped… dwyane wade for luol deng & tony parker… this is a keepers league… should i say yes, or no?

  20. nick says:

wade is a top 10 player when healthy. i would get wade, luol and parker each don’t have better numbers and also depending on ur league those players may not even be kept.

  21. knoc says:

    @finance_lady23
for blocks try picking up JO
tyson chandler might be good for a a few blocks as well.

  22. len-e says:

yo doc! is delfino for real!?

  23. finance_lady23 says:

ok so if i pick up JO or chandler, who do i drop?
