This is a Shame

This statement was released by the Toronto Raptors on Raptors.com:

(November 26, 2007) - The Toronto Raptors medical staff has determined that Jorge Garbajosa requires further surgery on his left leg and ankle.

Garbajosa also met with Dr. Mark Myerson in Baltimore today for a consultation. We are awaiting Dr. Myerson’s written report.

No surgery date has been determined and no timing has been established for a return to basketball activity.

Garbajosa will remain on the Inactive List indefinitely.

If you saw him break his leg last season, you know it’s pretty much a medical miracle that he was able to do anything at all this season, let alone play for the Spanish National Team this past summer. I was in a Toronto sports bar the night before doing a cover shoot with Chris Bosh when the injury happened and the whole place pretty much went dead silent. The next day at the arena, all of the Raptors’ front office people and players were pretty shaken by what had happened and they were questioning whether he’d ever be able to play ball again.

By all accounts, Garbo is a great dude and when healthy, is a vital piece of the Raptors’ puzzle. He’s a Nocioni-type guy in the sense that he could help any team in the league with his attitude and gritty play. As soon as we find out how long he’s out (let’s assume it’s for the rest of the season), we’ll let you know…

I read this article also and thought it was weird that they did not provide a firm indication of how long garbo will be gone -I mean even a minimum. Apparently the doctor is the best in the world..he must know generally how long it will take.

I’d guess the season for sure.

Yea the news broke about it last night. Depressed the hell outta me. I kno Moon is nice but he’s still a rookie and with Garbo there the pressure wouldnt fall on him as much but oh well it gives Joey Graham a chance to finally play
