Carmelo on Dime #37Carmelo Anthony wasn’t playing around when — following D-Wade and LeBron’s NBA Finals runs — he said that this year was his turn. And ‘Melo seems to be making a point in taking out those two personally: leading a piecing of the Cavs a few weeks ago, and last night, laying the wood to the Heat in another blowout. Penny, Ricky Davis and Dorell Wright all got buckets from ‘Melo (30 pts), while the Nuggets as a team just ran Miami out of the building, clicking on all cylinders by making the right passes and hawking the passing lanes on defense … Kenyon Martin took it back to ‘02, throwing down two dunks on his first two touches, sticking a fadeaway J on his third, throwing down another abusive and-one later on, and finishing with 20 points and eight boards … Marcus Camby pulled down 21 boards, but had some problems emulating K-Mart with the dunks. On one fast break, Camby went up and got rejected by the rim. He wasn’t the only one. Shaq gathered a loose ball one time and somehow missed a two-hand dunk. He got the offensive board and missed the point-blank layup … No surprise that Dwight Howard (17 pts, 8 rebs) was a beast last night, throwing down a handful of alley oops, swatting five shots — including one on Kobe where Dwight got the ball with his elbow — and scaring Andrew Bynum on occasion in Orlando’s win over the Lakers. But Lamar Odom got his gremlin on, too. He pulled down 17 boards to go with 19 points, and stuffed one of Dwight’s dunk attempts. We can’t say what was more impressive: the block itself or the mere fact L.O. challenged Dwight and risked breaking his wrist. Not too many guys have been willing to step in Dwight’s way lately … Serena Williams was sitting courtside at Staples. One of the Dime crew (anonymous so as not to get in trouble with his girl) definitely said something about fighting Lakers’ color guy Stu Lantz for being flirty when he interviewed her … Without LeBron in the lineup, no way Cleveland is gonna beat the Celtics (or anyone, for that matter) unless they hit their threes. That Daniel Gibson, Damon Jones and Sasha Pavlovic were a combined 3-for-17 beyond the arc yesterday tells you all you need to know. Boston even helped ‘em out by playing a bad game, with KG and Pierce scoring in single-digits, and the Cavs still could only muster 70 points in a double-digit loss. Doesn’t this however-long-it-lasts stretch the Cavs have to play without LeBron do more for his MVP bid than anything he does on the court? … Let’s all welcome James Jones to the Kevin Walker Memorial “See What You Done Did!” Club, just a few days after Nazr Mohammed was inducted. Jones got his invite yesterday when his knee got tangled up with Tim Duncan’s, causing the big man to go down with what looked like a nasty injury. Last we heard it was an ankle sprain/knee contusion, and today’s MRI will determine how long TD will be out … Meanwhile, for all of you out there who think Tony Parker is nothing without Duncan, did you see him yesterday? Sure, it was just one night and it was against the Blazers, but Parker looked very much like someone who can be The Man on the Spurs whenever Duncan walks away from the game. He dropped 27 points and 8 dimes, still getting into the lane easily, still sticking jumpers off the pick-and-roll, and still finding the open man just like he does when Duncan is around. Hate to break it to you, but the guy can hold his own … Can someone please tell these people that Travis Outlaw and Bo Outlaw are not the same person? This is the second time … And while you’re at it, tell LaMarcus Aldridge (8 pts) that Tim Duncan going down with an injury in the first quarter is his cue to get buckets … Sonics/Warriors was delayed for about 20 minutes because the KeyArena scoreboard caught on fire. Seriously. And metaphorically-speaking, it wasn’t the Sonics who lit the match. They got whooped … Now isn’t Grant Hill much better when he doesn’t have to fire up threes we all know he’s not gonna make? Grant stamped 28 points, 8 boards, 7 dimes and 3 steals on the Knicks last night, only taking two treys along the way. One problem area for the Knicks: Q is supposed to be one of their better defenders, and he’s getting cracked on a regular basis. In the last couple weeks we’ve seen Stephen Jackson, Paul Pierce, Michael Redd and Grant Hill light him up … Jamaal Tinsley put up 29 points, 7 boards, 7 dimes and 3 steals in Sunday’s win over the Clippers. Chris Kaman dropped 22 points, 22 boards and 5 blocks in the loss. Both of these guys have to be in the early discussion for Most Improved Player, right? … LSU vs. Ohio State? We’re not mad at that. But still, how can anyone say they can definitively identify the top two teams in the country after all that went down this year? The NCAA has to install a D-1 football playoff system. It’s no longer an option. Keep the smaller bowls no one cares about for the non-playoff teams, keep the bigger bowls as playoff quarterfinals and semifinals, and talk to the people in D-1AA, D-II and D-III about how to arrange a playoff system. Do it already … We’re out like TD …

When Hawaii goes undefeated (only team in D1 to do that) and everyone KNOWS they have no shot at playing in the national title game, the system is definitely flawed. I don’t think they’re the “best” team in the country, but they’ve run the table when there’s a 2 loss team in the title game. They deserve a shot over LSU even if we all think LSU would beat them.
How do the Cavs not make any changes in the off-season (Demetrius Nichols doesn’t count) on a team that clearly can’t win a ring even w/ LeBron? Yesterday just proved how badly they needed to do SOMETHING.

I love the ‘melo’ : no more drama cover. it’s great. when is the L going to suspend him for his bitch-tits move on sasha? he’s a frustrated crybaby. he scores a lot, and i’m impresed with his offensive ability, but man, at least alex english wasn’t complaining all the time that other guys teams go farther than his, or trying to choke slam mike cooper when showtime would be dropping buckets on his ass.

What is up with both Amare and Al Harrington taking AND hitting 3’s lately. As if the Warriors and Suns needed any more firepower. Al has been playing really well lately - most people give the credit to SJax for the turnaround but Al has stepped up also.
That TD injury looked nasty. I have to say I was surprised when a bruise and a sprain were reported.
Huge statement game from the Nuggets. Wade was a non factor and Carmelo looked like a giant sized Kobe..killing the heat. If K-mart keeps this up they are a title contender. The crazy part is they still have Nene sitting somewhere getting healthy - who was a monster when he was in shape last year. The Nuggets have to be the most talented team in the league right now (including boston..who only have 3 talents))

I think Kaman is nasty this year, but I don’t think most improved player cuz didn’t he sign a 55 million contract? He should be putting up 22, 22, and 5. Still, I like the clips and I’m happy he’s playing like I thought he would.

Celts Fan- not the french dan dickau. he’s the french tony parker. like someone above said lets see him do it for a long stretch of games against teams that are presently more legitamate than the blazers. dan dickau probably wishes he was the french dan dickau. then people would know who he is outside of washington and whereever he’s from (if not somewhere in washigton) and wherever he plays at now (portland right? i thought that he was going to prove some people wrong and flourish when he got to boston…and then when he got to atlanta…)
Dime- youre not breaking it to anyone. People who watch him play know that he can play. the question of whether he can carry a team is still a question that remains unanswered. cause like you said, one game is still one game…but good for him to be able to still carry the team last night. good luck to him if he becomes the focus of future teams’ defensive strategies.

If someone has a spare minute and some knowledge, can they let me know how Dorell Wright is doing this year? Is he getting better? A lot of Heat fans have been saying that he’ll be good someday, just wondering.
I think this is Lebron’s year for MVP. He’s got the standard Kobe argument (best player on a team that has no right competing for a title), but he’s putting up better than Kobe numbers. No, I’m not ready to say that he’s better than Kobe, but the Cavs are pretty bad in an improving Eastern Conference. The kind of numbers he’s putting up really give you the feeling that he’s trying all over the place - not just the scoring numbers Kobe’s famous for putting up. Not hating on Kobe - just sayin.
Ha, Grant Hill’s points should never be divisible by 3. I remember seeing the plan for him and immediately checking his career 3 numbers - they were ugly.
Yea, like IGP said - Kaman was really good a few years ago, plus he was a pretty high draft pick, PLUS he signed a nasty contract followed by a subpar season (last). I’d feel bad voting for him as MIP. If Jamaal Tinsley keeps on putting up triple double-ish numbers, he’d definitely be in the running. I’m sure Pacers fans would be thrilled with just the points, assists, and steals. The P’s lead the L in steals…
