There are multiple stories in the New York-area papers this morning about how Nets GM Rod Thorn insists that there is no deal in the works involving Jason Kidd, including THIS ONE from the NY Post and THIS ONE from the Newark Star-Ledger.
The funny thing is (or not so funny if you’re Kidd, Thorn or a Nets fan), every day they hold on to Jason, the less the Nets are going to be able to get for him in return. Thorn couldn’t get Andrew Bynum for Kidd last season and there’s certainly no way he would ever be included in a deal now. As the Star-Ledger article points out, the best deal Rod could get from L.A. now would be something like Kwame Brown (and his expiring contract) and Vladimir Radmonovic in return for a Hall of Fame point guard. Sweet.
So, we’re now actually looking at a window that might already be closed for any kind of real deal for Kidd. And if it’s not shut tight already, the situation is getting worse every day. The luster on Kidd is quickly depreciating. Prime example: If you watched last night’s Suns/Jazz game, both Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy named their list of the top 5 point guards in the NBA. Jason wasn’t on either guy’s list, while Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Baron Davis were on both. If I were Kidd or Thorn, I think I might be in full panic mode to get a deal done with the Mavs or the Cavs or somebody. Otherwise, Kidd might be destined to play it out for a very bad team in New Jersey/Brooklyn or make it so ugly in New Jersey that he forces the Nets to trade him for pennies on the dollar.

Both those guys are idiots. Kidd is the third best PG in the league AT WORST. My opinion is #1 (and I hate the guy) but Nash can’t defend, Davis can’t stay healthy, and CP3 and Deron don’t put up triple doubles like Kidd does (something like 5 this season already.)

Thorn SHOULD have Mark Cuban on speed dial #s 1, 2 and 3 seeing how the Mave got the Raps last night. They could sure use a J-Kidd to fire up all those weapons they have.

For real though, if you know like I know, Kidd better bounce now cause it will not get better no time soon in N.J. and he (Kidd) aint gettin no younger.

I think Kwame’s expiring contract, Jordan Farmar, Radmanovic, and a 1st-rounder for Kidd would be a decent deal for both teams because New Jersey really is going nowhere with Kidd anyhow.
With this deal, New Jersey gets a good young point guard and plenty of cap space to go after big name freeagents next season. They can try to get Okafor and finally add an inside presence.
For the Lakers, the core of Kobe, Kidd, Bynum, and Odom would instantly make them a legit championship contender.
New Jersey, with Carter, Jefferson, Okafor, and Farmar (who will be a star couple years down the road) would be powerhouse in the East.
Man they HAVE to make this deal!!!

Kidd wants to leave. He knows the team sucks. He wanted to leave after they traded Kenyon Martin for a bag of pretzels.
But he stayed when the traded for Vince Carter. But now….he sees this team for what it is. A 1st round flame out. Plus, management doesn’t know if the want to relocate to Brooklyn or not.
NJ (and NY) media aired out his marriage/divorce last season. Why would he want to stay?
NJ should trade him and re-start. Let Marcus Williams run the point. let Shawne Williams start at the power forward.
Move Kidd to the Warriors so he can go back home.
