Nike Super 6 @ MSG

Nike Super 6 Preview

Mt. Vernon Knights
Head Coach: Bob Cimmino
Season Record: 5-2

Mt. Vernon is usually in the mix when discussing some of the most successful high school basketball programs in the country, this year much of the same is expected. With a strong core of players returning, 6’8 F Kevin Jones, 6’4 G/F Sherrod Wright and 5’9 G Ketema Brooks, The Knights are looking to find that familiar chemistry to make another run at another New York State Federation Title. After a slower than usual 5-2 start to the season, including loses in Hawaii to Mason County (KY) and Rice (NY), the Knights are looking to right the ship against Paterson Catholic (NJ) on the big stage at the Nike Super 6 at Madison Square Garden on January 13th.

Paterson Catholic Cougars
Head Coach: Damon Wright
Season Record: 3-1

The Cougars may not be as storied a program as their Knight counterparts but they are no slouches either. Led by their 6’0 Seton Hall bound point man Jordan Theodore, they can play with anyone. Theodore’s supporting cast is headlined by 6’4 and 6’5 sophomore swingmen Fuquan Edwin and Jayon James. While they are talented and primed for a breakout game, they are young. The Cougars toughest game of the year so far was against a hot St. Raymond’s squad which they dropped 82-70. It will be interesting to see how they match up against a seasoned Mt. Vernon team.
