Attention Pat Summitt
Lyric BryantOne of the best dunkers of all time is her godfather. She honed her jumper with the guidance of Sunny Parker and Chicago legend Mac Gervin, so it’s no wonder Lyric Bryant is the top-rated sixth grader in all of Chicago. We noticed Bryant, 12, immediately upon walking into the first session at Chicago’s first Converse Open Gym run this Sunday. She was knocking down picture-perfect jumpers a step within the three-point line, a stark contrast with some of the boys in her age group who weren’t strong enough to make lay-ups.
Lyric’s dad, Charles Johnson, was boys with Ronnie Fields growing up in Chi-town. Though Fields hasn’t seen Lyric play since she was a little kid (Ronnie’s playing pro ball in Venezuela now), he encouraged her to keep working on her game back in the day. And that’s pretty much all she does, whether it’s against her 18-year old brother in 1-on-1 or on Chicago’s Lady Fire AAU squad.
Though her brother wins “sometimes,” Lyric insists that if she can get her J off, she’s usually the victor. One element to those wins is her ability to finish with both hands around the basket – and seriously, there are 18-year old guys jealous of her left. Lyric can thank her parents. “My mom is left-handed and she taught me how to write,” Bryant told us on Sunday. “My dad is righty and he taught me how to shoot.” Her dad hopes to have her knocking ’em down consistently with both hands by the time she’s in high school.
Bryant has another advantage in her future – height. Her dad is 5-11 and her mom is 6-0. Though she is just over 5 feet now, she has incredibly long arms and her doctor promises that she will break that 6-0 plateau. But in the mean time, Lyric will continue to work on her skills among the boys even if she’s shorter than many of them. “Oh I like playing against the boys,” said Bryant. “And I’m not scared at all.”

There are so many things I can say about Lyric Bryant ill just start with hat I’ve seen on film the fact that you have a kid with tools that you don’t find in a highschool senior rebounding shooting right hand left hand finishing around the basket are just the beginning. Lyric has the ability to become not only the next top-five recruit in the nation but she also has the drive to want to get better. On the highlight tape I received there’s game where her all around skills are as evident as Micheal Jordan being the best player of all time. The fact that she can play all five positions is also a benefit to the dedication in inner drive this kid has to be the best player she can be. The pride and respect she has for the game is evident in the players admires Pondexter, Moore, Diggens, and Parker

my name is unemportant because im not trying to get any publicity off a up in coming superstar by the name of Lyric Bryant i had the pleasure of seeing her play at Montinni Catholic School in Lombard for three months in over 30 games she carried the team all winter by averaging almost 20 points a game. You could tell the other kids she was playing with were just learning the game but here was Lyric with the swagger of a high shool senior directing players and getting them easy baskets. I most confess even when my daughter was playing at the same time Lyric would be, lets say i would have to ask my daughter how she played when we get home, because i would be stuck watching lyric play she is a talent and i wish her the best

I Want To Be Lyric Bryants Agent says:
I have witnessed the future of womans basketball and her name is Lyric Bryant is there anything she can’t do I was at the boilingbrook tornament this winter for the first tornament of the year to witness the future in there she was #22 Lyric Bryant. After reading the first article on this blog I needed to see myself. This kid is big I mean really big like 5’7 5’8 can play all five positions and has has one of the best floor games of any player at this same age limit. She has drop-steps , turn around jumpers, left-hand right-hand finishing, box-out skills, rebounding leaping ability, defense, leadership skills, and very coachable. Wow and I should remind you she does not graduate grammar school until 2010 highschool 2014 WNBA 2014 and on I’m keeping up with those dates so should you. Her team Lady Fire took the entire thing 6th grade 7th grade and 8th grade in the chapionship game she had 17 points 10 rebounds and 5 assist and was MVP.
