* No wonder that Maryland (6-5) is struggling this season. They are in direct violation of Rule No-1: you gotta look good to play good. Greivis Vasquez’s attempt at an original facial hair design looks more like he got intimate with a black Sharpie.
The Terps scored a season-low in their 61-55 loss to Ohio Wednesday night. Vasquez led Maryland with 13 points (5-16 FG) and 8 assists.
* Going into the season, who would have said that Miami (FL) would be 9-0 with wins over VCU, Providence and Mississippi State? The Hurricanes went into Starkville, Miss. last night and got 29 points from Jack McClinton, 12 of which came within the final four minutes, rallying to a 64-58 win. “We found out why they are 9-0 during the last 3:40 of the ball game,” said Bulldog coach Rick Stansbury. “[Jack] McClinton stepped up and hit some big shots down the stretch and was able to score 11 points in the last 3:30 of the ball game. Give Miami credit, they have a very good basketball team and they are going to have a great season.”
* Vanderbilt improved to 10-0 on Wednesday thanks to an absolutely furious comeback from an 18-point deficit during the second half. The Commodores Shan Foster and A.J. Ogilvy were nonexistent in the first half, combining for just 10 points before the break. Kevin Stallings must have said the right things during the intermission because Vandy scored 49 points in the second half to force OT. Ogilvy had five points in the extra period and Foster added a clutch three. For the Blue Demons, Draelon Burns scored four of his team’s six points in overtime and finished with 24 points and 7 boards.

If the U can’t get it done in football, we’re going to become a basketball power! Do you remember when Duke, UNC and I think Maryland wanted to split off from the ACC to create their own basketball-focused conference? Maryland would be the whipping boy of that group. Virginia Tech was one of the schools that they wanted to get away from because of their football focus but Va Tech would kill the Terrapins this year.

I may be the only Hurricane basketball fan I know. There’s a reason they moved to the ACC, they keep getting better every year. Watch out for Eddie Rios, Dime knows whats up.

Maryland/Virginia Tech could be one of the most fun games to watch of the year for no reason other than the dynamic of the top two dunkers in the nation, James Gist and Deron Washington. Check these two dunks on YouTube if you could imagine throwing out two better dunkers on the same floor.
