Do You Remember the “Jewish Jordan?”

Back in the day, Sports Illustrated named D.C.-area high schooler Tamir Goodman the “Jewish Jordan.” The hype around him was pretty severe for a few years; Tamir was putting up serious numbers (almost 35 a game) at the Talmudical Academy in Baltimore and he was featured in ESPN and 60 Minutes TV pieces. Goodman was eventually offered a scholarship to play at Maryland, but, as the story goes, Tamir showed up for pickup games with his future Terp teammates and just wasn’t good enough to hang.

Tamir was let out of his scholarship and played for Towson University before heading to Israel to play pro ball. Now, Tamir is back, playing for the Maryland Nighthawks of the PBL. His return is covered in the D.C. Sports Bog in a post that breaks down his rise to stardom, his fall, and a stint in the Israeli military among other things.

His coach in the PBL? Lawrence “Poetry In” Moten. And one of his new teammates is Alimoe.

Dude was white hype. Nothing more. White Hype. Could have played in the ACC to prove naysayers like me wrong, but his knees buckled instead.

btw…Lawrence Moten had to have been one of the smoothest ball players ever. If you’ve never seen him, get some old Syracuse tapes. (e)L Smooth in high socks.
