Ewing Thinks Curry is Soft
Today’s New York Post has a few quotes from Patrick Ewing on Eddy Curry. Basically, Ewing says that E-City isn’t mentally tough enough to succeed in NYC:
December 27, 2007 — ORLANDO – Knicks legend Patrick Ewing acknowledged last night that disintegrating Eddy Curry may not have the mental makeup to succeed in New York.
Ewing, the Orlando assistant, understands more than anyone what it takes to prosper at the Garden. The “Big Fella” received more boos and catcalls than any Knick.
“I don’t know if he came into camp in shape or not,” the likely Hall of Famer told The Post. “You have to have a strong mind to play in New York. Not too many people can play there.”
It certainly doesn’t seem like Ewing is far off. It only one of many explanations as to why a guy who is 6-11 and almost 300 lbs. has only grabbed double-digit boards ONE time this entire season.

Curry is just one of the many guys that play ball because he can and gets paid to do so. There’s no love or desire to be great at it. He is just there to “cake it up” enjoy the status and fade out quietly as an underachiever on court, but an overachiever at the bank…No matter what we think money is the end all be all. He is an employee going to work. He gets paid an exceptional amount to just show up and be 6-11′ and 300 pounds. The contract is guaranteed, so all he has to do is like he said, “just deal with it”.

Yeah Curry’s a bum & yet he gets rewarded by starting and Zach comes off the bench. Good message to the guys that are trying to win games!

The ironic thing of all this: Curry was traded from the Bulls because of his heart problems…so they trade him to NEW YORK of all places. Yea, that will help him with his stress.

Smity–
Damn you for brining up an ugly memory. Still hurts my heart since ’95. You have just ruined my whole afternoon. LOL.
And to think….the day before that game, Orlando eliminated the Jordan Bulls. The Knicks knew going into their game 7 that if they won, they would not have to play the Bulls in a playoff series.
Also, Phoenix lost game 7 on their homecourt the day before to Houston (Mario Elie’s kiss)….I would have thought Pat Riley (his last game as Knicks coach was the P-Ew finger roll miss) would have made it clear to the team a road team can win a game 7.
Dammit…dammit…dammit….
What might have been……
