Giri’s Gone Wild

This guy. Last week it was this business with Gordan Giricek. Then last night Jerry Sloan sent him to the locker room in the second quarter of the Jazz’s loss to the Bobcats and apparently put him on a plane back to Salt Lake City after the game. From today’s Deseret Morning News:

CHARLOTTE — Sent to the locker room by coach Jerry Sloan during the Jazz’s loss at Charlotte on Wednesday night, reserve shooting guard Gordan Giricek later was ordered back home to Salt Lake City to serve what amounts to a suspension of undeclared length.

“I didn’t do anything wrong,” Giricek said three different times after leaving the locker room, “and I don’t have no comment for anything.”

Whether or not the veteran from Croatia has played his last game for the Jazz remains to be seen.

“No. I don’t know,” Giricek said after being asked if he wants out of Utah — and before he was informed he would not be permitted to travel with the team to Orlando, where the Jazz visit the Magic on Friday.

“My agent (Marc Fleisher),” Giricek added, “is going to talk to Kevin (O’Connor, the Jazz’s general manager). … It’s actually gonna be taken care of, right? Everything can be fixed, right? So, we’ll see.”

O’Connor said by telephone late Wednesday that he had no comment on the matter, and Sloan suggested the same, saying “I don’t have any comments on that right now.”

Giricek, a frequent visitor to Sloan’s doghouse, exchanged words with the longtime Jazz coach during a heated timeout with seven minutes and 50 seconds remaining in Wednesday’s second quarter.

Jazz assistant coach Tyrone Corbin tried to keep Giricek away, but a standing Giricek and a kneeling Sloan nevertheless engaged in an animated discussion that ended with Sloan pointing to the locker room.

Giricek had knocked down a jumper a couple of Jazz possessions prior to the timeout but got beat by Charlotte’s Jason Richardson on the Bobcats’ ensuing trip down the court.

Giricek denied that was what had Sloan so mad and suggested he didn’t know what he did.

“I have no idea,” he said.

If other Jazz players did, they weren’t saying.

“We’ll talk about that in-house,” Carlos Boozer said.

“That’s between Coach and Giri,” fellow co-captain Deron Williams added.

This kind of stuff is definitely not what the Jazz need right now. They’re struggling mightily and their most glaring weakness is at the 2, the spot where Giricek plays. If he’s not going to step up, he needs to go. Especially if he’s going to be causing drama. If they can’t trade him, and don’t want to eat his salary by buying him out, they should honestly just deactivate him.

And where is Deron Williams in this whole thing? They’re always talking about how he’s the team’s leader; he needs to shut this down ASAP. If this kind of stuff is what the public is seeing, you know it’s worse behind closed doors. It’s the captain’s job to step in, not pass it off.

Don’t quit know what to say about this one, guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out.
Anyway Pistons up – Celtics Down. LOL

  2. Bobby stew says:

Please don’t try to place any blame or fault on Deron. That’s ridiculous. He is not responsible for everyone’s actions. You can’t make people act right just because you are a leader. Trade Giricek to the Nuggets for J.R. Smith. Then again J.R. might get sent to the locker room as well

  3. Dime Magazine says:

Not saying it’s Deron’s fault. The captain can’t be expected to make people act a certain way, but he also shouldn’t totally distance himself from it either.

DUDE YOUR NOT DIME MAGAZINE – STOP POSING!!!

  5. Celts Fan says:

Bobby: JR Smith with nothing to do, stuck in white-bread Utah? Ya, that’s a great idea…

and you guys can’t ask Deron to say something to the media. He should be in there behind closed doors (which I’m guessing he is) but he’s a young captain. People blast guys like TO for running their mouths about this type of thing, then want a guy like Deron to do it? That’s not fair to ask of any player, much less one so young.

  6. derrick says:

man, if deron will call out andrei publicly, why ain’t he saing anything about this?

  7. Taliban says:

This is crazy! Who is this dude?

  8. YOUNGFED says:

    Good point derrick
