H.O.F. Watch - Michael Redd
Every day we’re taking one active NBA star with at least arguable Hall of Fame credentials and breaking down his chances of getting into the Springfield, Mass., hoops mecca. We’re looking at not just past accomplishments, but also how a player’s career realistically projects for the future. For a full explanation of the process, click here. Today’s candidate: Michael Redd.
MICHAEL REDD (8th year, Bucks)
20.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.0 steals per game
Why: Along with Ray Allen and Peja Stojakovic, Redd is a relevant figure in the discussion of who is the NBA’s best pure shooter in the post-Reggie Miller era. Since coming into the League as Ray’s backup, Redd’s scoring numbers have gone up every year, reaching 26.7 points per game last year, his third straight year averaging better than 23 per game. Redd is 14th on the NBA’s active leaders in career scoring average, behind the likes of Iverson, Shaq, Kobe and Vince Carter, but ahead of potential Hall of Famers like Grant Hill, Stephon Marbury, Alonzo Mourning and Jason Kidd. Redd is seen as a vital part of the current Team USA program, and is expected to pick up an Olympic gold medal next summer.
Why not: As good as Redd is, he’s often overlooked since the Bucks are far from a title contender. So far he’s made three playoff appearances in his career — two of them since becoming Milwaukee’s star — in which he’s never gone past the first round. He’s only made one All-Star appearance, while Redd is expanding his offensive repertoire, his rep is that of a one-dimensional shooter/scorer. Which is fine, except he doesn’t have the eye-popping numbers such as percentages or League-leading shooting stats to justify a “best active shooter” title over someone like Ray Allen or Peja.

No Redd is the bomb and a very excellent addition to any squad. Yet nooooooo accolades. He is the type of player that should be playing along side LeBron in order to really get his career headed toward serious title contention.
I can’t say nothing bad about dude though, he can seriously shoot. I am not sure how his defense is though???
He should be trying to get out of Mil. with the quickness!

Celts Fan says:
Always thought both he and Ray Allen made a HUGE mistake not signing w/ Cleveland a few years ago (which Cleveland than, feeling like they had to do SOMETHING instead of just holding onto the potential cap space, used to throw ridiculous money at a bum like Larry Hughes.) I can understand and, in this era of cash-grabbing stars (which I’ll never fault anyone for,) you’ve got to respect the guy who’s fiercely loyal to the team that brought him in. Having said that, if he’s LeBron’s #2, they both might have rings right now, or at least have a much better shot than they do now, and Redd would have a chance at getting into the Hall. As it is now, no way, and I love his game…

Nice game, but he’s nothing more than Kanye West’s basketball playing look-alike cousin.

Here’s the thing….You’re talking about Peja in your argument as though he is better than Redd though Peja has yet to be mentioned in the HOF watch. If Peja is better than Redd, for whatever reason (and I’m not saying he is, I’m just going off of what I read here,) and hasn’t been featured in this discussion, what in the HELL are we discussing Redd for? A gold medal won’t help him either. He would actually have to develop a serious HOF personality (game, attitude, accolades, etc.) and I dont see that happening for Redd….Great shooter though……

K-Dizzle says:
Great college slasher/shooter/winner. Somehow fell to the second round I think. Someone verify that for me. Used to just be a great world-class shooter, now a great scorer as well. Unfortunately, Milwaukee, being the media juggernaut that it is, doesn’t produce too many HOFers since Oscar and Kareem and I hope Sidney Moncrief is in. Redd’s problem is that HOFers are born in the playoffs and I have ZERO Mike Redd playoff memories. Great shooter, great scorer, great teammate great character but almost a zero percent chance of gettin into the Hall.
I agree with what Celts Fan stated. Shoulda left the 15-30 mil on the table and bounced to Cleveland cuz Lebron would give him nothin but open looks all year long….but leaving 20+ Mill on the table is easier said than done….even a little stupid.
OUT but will still have a great career

He’s out unless he develops into a serious killer during the big games - he can do this though i can’t see it happening with this current team. Gotta respect his loyalty though with the Bucks.
Always wondered what might have happened had lebron got this guy to run with him. Micheal Redd “open-looks-all-day”…. into Larry “can’t play all season” Hughes.

Nah says:
#1-please dont EVER…..EVER list Stinkbury as a potential hall of famer again
#2- of course he has a higher ppg av that Zo, ZO is maybe the best DEFENSIVE player ever
#3- the Kidd has never been a real scoring threat just a great all around player, and the best pure pg since Magic
Redds a nice guy but he’s just a less talented Ray Allen. Plus Milwaulkee will never reach above a #5 seed in the east

T.M.P.B.W.O.T.P. says:
Whoa whoa whoa … Mourning the best defensive player EVER? I see your point about comparing his scoring numbers to Redd’s, but that was uncalled for. Zo isn’t even the best defensive player to come out of Georgetown.
