Dime U
* Last night was a three-point shooting extravaganza in college hoops. Indiana fought through eight treys from Iowa’s Justin Johnson, who finished the game with 29 points after banking a 40-footer with only a few ticks remaining. Eric Gordon’s shooting woes were remedied as he went 7-12 from the floor for 25 of his own. IU’s starting point guard Armon Bassett played only three minutes because of bone chips is his ankle, thus allowing freshman Jordan Crawford to make the most of his 30 minutes of burn: 12 points, 4 rebounds, one steal, one block.
* Pittsburgh overcame Lafayette’s 17 three’s (54.8% 3FG) with a 57-point second half drubbing. The Panthers went 10-16 from beyond the arc as Ronald Ramon shifted over to Levance Fields’ spot at the one. Ramon dished out 10 assists and went 3-4 from downtown.
* UAB’s Robert Vaden knocked down seven three’s, the seventh time that he’s hit five or more triples in a single outing. Remarkably, he’s still 14 behind the top three-point shooter in the country – Chicago State’s David Holston (82 triples).
* The Rhode Island Rams are off to their best start since the ’46-47 season thanks to six three-pointers from guard Jimmy Baron (22 points) in their 94-63 win over FDU last night. Baron was the first to admit that URI’s 14-1 start is not what he expected at the start of the year. “I would have said, ‘What are you drinking,’” said Baron to the AP.
Ole Miss got five treys from David Huertas (17 points) to stay perfect last night, 86-50 against Alabama A&M.
* Ty Lawson hit a season-high three three’s as host UNC trounced Kent State 90-61. “I’ve been on him the last couple of days in practice and the last game to shoot the outside shot because he really is a good shooter, and he’s been catching the ball and not even thinking about shooting,” said Roy Williams. “I told him he doesn’t have to shoot, but at least put his arm underneath it and make them think he’s going to shoot. That makes the guy come up on him even more, and then he can go by him.”

Seriously, if Robert Vaden doesn’t follow Mike Davis to UAB, how good is that Indiana team?!

i gotta say that if they can get ramon to play point as well as he did last night then maybe they can ride sam young and dewan blair to a good seed in the tournament.

i Fux aka Etheraldinho aka Farouq Obama aka the Immaculate Ejaculate aka Slick Dick Johnson says:
Remember when Jason Kidd missed a Knicks-Nets game on Dec. 5? And remember how the “official” word was that J-Kidd had a migraine? And who could forget the widespread rumors that Kidd was trying to force the Nets to re-do his contract?
Well, here’s the definitive word from an unimpeachable source as to what really went down. Kidd showed up at Rod Thorn’s office that same morning and he did indeed demand that his contract be renegotiated and expanded. When Thorn categorically refused, this was Kidd’s response:
“(Bleep) you! I’m not playing tonight!”
The biggest mystery, however, is why the media has always given Kidd a free pass — even after he proved to be totally uncoachable in Dallas, only slightly less so in Phoenix, and after he succeeded in Bogarting the Nets into canning Byron Scott and signing Alonzo Mourning.
Kidd’s bossy attitude goes back to the fact that he was such an overwhelming talent in high school (St. Joseph of Notre Dame in Alameda, Calif.) and in college (California) that his respective coaches let him did as he pleased. Naturally, Kidd figured that his NBA coaches should also defer to him.
For sure, J-Kidd is one of the all-time great point guards. But isn’t it interesting that such a super-duper star has been traded twice (and seems to be on the verge of being traded again)? And that three coaches have been fired on his watch?
Even if we forget about Kidd’s public marital battles, it’s clear that once the final buzzer sounds, this seven-time All-Star is a no-star individual.
^Damn ether across the triple double

Whats that gotta do with it?
Did anybody watch the Indiana Iowa game? That Johnson kid went off and looked better than Gordon did. Gordon had one really nice reverse but aside from that I was more impressed with Johnson.

One slight difference there… the entire Iowa team was geared towards stopping Gordon while IU was spread out dealing with everyone.
