Is Dwyane Soft?

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONPhoto. Mannion

The Mavs blog on the Dallas Morning News web site posted this, titled “What a shock! D-Wade is hurt!”, yesterday afternoon:

Will Dwyane Wade make his long-awaited return to the AAC tomorrow night? To be determined.

The world’s toughest athlete jammed his right pinkie finger and aggravated his bruised right shoulder in the final seconds of last night’s loss to the Bucks. The good news is that Wade managed to make it off the floor without a wheelchair.

Strong words from writer Tim McMahon. And kind of personal. Are his comments warranted? And make sure to check out the comments on his post – some of those are kinda crazy. Do you think that Wade is soft, a faker or is looking to milk drama? Let us know.

  1. MSkittle says:

“Get knocked down seven times, get up 8.” Tim McMahon is just hatin because of the way Wade dominated his team in the Finals two years ago. Wade also called out Dirk as not being a leader.

  2. QQ says:

Haha, I just love a HATER hatin’. Wade destroyed dallas two yaers ago, this writer is from dallas and is still probably hurt that his team lost. Or, scratch all of that, he’s probably just an asshole.

  3. Smooth says:

tim mchahon is a dallas maverick fan they all hate on D-Wade because of how he killed then in the finals & showed that the mavericks are a bunch of chokers

    maverick fans = haterz

  4. Bobby stew says:

Hater or not the Heat are playing terrible. It’s obvious they have given up on this year. That might as well let Wade sit and heal and analyze what young players to develop and who to trade and let go of for next year. Trade Shaq for Dampier and Devin Harris.

  5. fallinup says:

    Classless. Period.

  6. hadoken says:

bobby stew must be a mavs fan bc any true heat fan wouldn’t even trade $h!t shaq for the pile of trash people call dampier or that goblin looking pile of bones…

  7. mike says:

wade is injured quite a bit for such a tough athlete. Some of you would say “He throws his body around so much and looks for contact, so he is bound to get hurt.” I would just call him injury-prone.

  8. jay says:

dude is a writer..not a player.. he is hating since wade torched the mavs in 06! is wade really hurt. the dude is not at full strength from his offseason injuries..takes time even for the best athletes such as wade. he will be fine by all star break but the way the heat are playing..if wade needs a day or two rest..they are not out of it beign in the east but you also do not not wade to become penny either so you gotta look at the big picture…i am sure the hack writer never suited up for organized sports in his life!

  9. Prof. TX says:

    T-Mac + 1 ring + a ton of phantom foul calls = Wade

  10. Dank says:

    lol. is dwayne soft…

    Dear Dallas:
check your shit before you go talking bad about Dwayne Wade.
    Remember the 2006 finals?
    remember the 2007 playoffs?
remember having the best record and losing to the number 8 seed?
remember having an MVP who didnt deserve it, who choked when his team needed him the most? who scored 8 points in an elimination game?

    I DO!
so, Dallas, the question you have to ask for yourself is, is your entire city soft? is your entire city a disgrace to the game of basketball? is your franchise player, essentially, a pussy?

the answer is yes. you will never win a championship as long as a moron is running your team, as long as Dirk is your “star player” and as long as you give one of the greatest young coaches in the game shit to work with.

im still honestly hoping for an entire epidemic of disease to leash out on the city of Dallas. they have NOTHING going for them except the cowboys.

    Good Day.

    Dank

  11. Gareth says:

Wade isn’t soft, but he milks milks and then milks some more

  12. Bust Jlaze says:

Dude is injury prone. I posted this on that writer’s column, he’s one reckless drive into the lane away from ending his career. He’s gonna have to switch his game up VERY soon, like Jordan in the day. Problem is, he doesn’t have the height for that type of game, he’s 2 inches shorter than Jordan and Kobe’s got like 3 on him…his game is built for driving and taking contact. Take that away from him, and he’s gonna be in serious trouble.

  13. QQ says:

Whoa, easy Dank. But good call, to say the least.

  14. weng santos says:

Wade’s not soft. But I wouldn’t call him tough either. He’s so injury-prone, and he kinda milks it a bit. I think he needs a crash course in proper proprioception to avoid this ridiculous injuries.

The toughest guard in the NBA is playing in denver, and his name is Allen Iverson. AI is much shorter and about 50 pounds lighter than Wade, and he invented the kamikaze method of scoring by throwing his little body around. Every time he gets hit by a a guy like Shaq it should be a career-ending thing, but he gets up and comes back stronger.

Wade is out for a jammed pinky? A bruised shoulder? AI carried Philly through an entire playoffs with bursitis in his right elbow, a stress fracture in his right foot and bone spurs in his left, bruised ribs, and stiff hands. Now that’s injured.

And yet AI never made any excuse.

  15. alex says:

wade is not soft – nor injury prone. But right now he just tries to do too much for Miami. Same thing happened when Kobe was scoring a bunch for LA, or TMAC shouldered all the burden in Orlando. Wade has to re-invent his game to shoot more jumpers (for now), until they get a new Shaq that can give him space to operate inside.

  16. Kevin says:

I can kinda foresee DWade turning into Vince Carter 2.0.

I only say this as a raps fan who really doesn’t want to see that happen again, to any team.

A couple of years ago 82games put out an article discussing guys like DWade who go to the hoop with reckless abandon and pay the price with shorter seasons and careers. DWade has so far confirmed this, I hope he can get healthy, man blew my mind in the ’06 playoffs.

  17. Dank says:

the point here isnt “is Dwayne Wade soft?”

its what the hell gives this writer from Dallas the right to talk bad about Dwayne Wade? you people are missing completely here. Ok, yes, he’s a writer, and writers have freedom of speech

but why the hell talk about another team’s franchise player (specially the team that beat you in the 2006 finals) when your city’s team hasn’t done jack?

so its retarded, like everything else in Dallas. it’s like ok, you can bitch about wade getting the calls and shit, but in the end, your team gave out, you WERENT the better team, and your franchise player didn’t do anything to save his team. and this isn’t just with the finals, its last year too, and the year before that…etc

in conclusion, no one from dallas has a right to opine on anything or anyone else in the NBA until their team proves something.

  18. dagwaller says:

Dank is back – here comes another ill-informed rant.

No, Dank, the point isn’t whether or not Dallas fans have a right to post. The point, if I read the top of my browser correctly, is “Is Dwyane Soft?”.

It’s like life, where you learn to walk before you can run. Some people need to learn how to read before they should write.

  19. alberto says:

Wade is soft like the Labia Majora

  20. miamiVIS3 says:

I may be biased because i’m from miami but there is absolultley no way Dwyane wade is soft. Injury prone maybe but the things that he has played through in his career make him my opinion one of the HARDEST guys on the planet. Too bad thats not worth anything in the win column and ife he is out 2nite i can only imagine the massacre the mavs are gonna lay down.

  21. doc says:

He got a chip so the dude mad in Dallas. But Wade not soft he’s a little of a drama queen from what I see like he always gets hurt after the game is a lost cause and shit like that. Its not about his game because AI still goin hard as a oldhead in the game. He gotta learn how to brace his body for falls or something. He shouldn’t never get hurt with all that damn football equipment he be havin on under his shit

  22. G says:

Obviously you have to take the Dallas writer’s comments with a grain of salt. The dude is clearly hating and it shouldn’t come as a surprise. That being said Wade has been hurt quite a bit recently. I think its too early in his career to label him injury prone, he may not have fully recovered from what he was rehabbing over the summer. But the guy did make a point, the heat are struggling and one of the contributing factors is Wade is on the bench. The soft label may not be entirely fair but it def doesnt seem like hes playing through the pain. Lets put it this way, hes no AI

  23. Dennis Castro says:

Weng, word up. Excellent point about AI, but honestly, AI is a freak of nature. An athlete like him comes about once in a very long time.

I don’t think Wade is soft, but he does seem to overdramaticize his injuries. It looks especially bad when you have a guy on your team who shreds his knee on a play and limps off the floor on his own power, saying he would have dragged himself off the floor if he couldnt walk/limp off. Conversely, Wade needed a wheelchair for a shoulder injury.

  24. Gmoney says:

Man, I swear to the basketball gods, if one more media source bashes D-Wade, I will personally snap. The only reason the heat are even on tv anymore is because of Wade. He’s the heart, he’s the soul, and he’s the glue of that team.

It was probably some 125 pound scrub who wrote that too…bonified chump

  25. Smooth says:

man screw it lol im making a dallas mavericks diss video it will be on youtube soon ITS GONNA BE A LOT OF HIGHLIGHTS D-Wade killing the mavs in the 06 finals droppin jumpshots from everywhere his bankshots his dunks posterising erica dampier lol then it will have baron davis killing them in last years playoffs then i add kobes 62 in 3 quarters vs them & his other 40 point games @ dallas then i add sum t-mac highlights he kills the maverivks aswell 40 point games this mix iz gonna be hot

  26. Crunchy says:

Didn’t know where to post, but this is some funny stuff. Oh and Wade is Charmin.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv7IZP7u9FE&eurl=http://realtalkny.rawkus.com/

  27. Dank says:

thank you dagwaller. cus, you know, i have no idea what im writing about, right?

ill put it to you in simple terms: if any other writer or blogger or person from another city with an NBA team would’ve written this “is dwayne wade soft?” article (which, amazingly, i actually read) then i would’ve sincerely not posted about Dallas, and argued against the allegations that D-wade is soft.

but what you’re retarded, moronic ass missed, was the fact that this article was written in the city of Dallas, from a guy who works for a newspaper in Dallas, a city that hates D-wade (let’s be honest, he tore their asses apart, and they’ve been crying ever since. And they can’t find a new target to beef with cus Baron Davis still gives them the business, so instead, for the past 2 years, they’ve had it out for Wade)

So…what i’m trying to get at here is, they can call D-Wade soft all they want, and they can opine on whatever they want out in Dallas. But unless they plan on building a time machine and somehow changing the course of history, it is forever imprinted in their memory that they lost a championship to one man alone, and that he called their “leader” a pussy and that “leader” hasnt done anything to prove otherwise. Tim McMahon should write articles on Dirk Nowitzki not choking or something, not on Dwayne Wade being soft.

    Touche.

  28. NB says:

I’m sorry, but talking sh*t about Dallas does not negate the fact that Wade is, in fact, a drama queen. The point is that he makes such a big deal about being tough, and falling down and getting up and whatnot, but he’s always down! Also whoever commented about him needing a wheelchair for his shoulder, when Zo limped off the court with a busted knee is very on point. And speaking of toughness, I’ve seen Dirk twist his freaking ankle and go right back into the game. But he will forever be labeled soft, because his team did not win in the playoffs. Let’s see if Miami even makes it to the playoffs (I don’t think so!).

  29. ben says:

    D-Flop is soft as hell

  30. dagwaller says:

Dank, again, try and address the issue instead of being all “u r stoopid!”. My point was only that everyone here is saying, “ohhh, it’s a guy from Dallas”. Who cares?! OBVIOUSLY HE’S BIASED. No offense guys, but that’s a moot point. Dime wouldn’t have put it on here if there wasn’t a shred of truth to it – I’m sure they read through dozens of biased articles a day.

The ISSUE, if you would read the top of the page, is whether or not D-Wade is soft. Personally, I wouldn’t use the word “soft” – soft would imply shying away from contact, which is obviously not what he does. He’s simply injury prone, which is related, and is something that SHOULD lead to soft play, IF the guy wanted a long career. He’s obviously not interested in that, the way he throws his injury prone body around.

Again, Dank, I’m sorry if you not having a good level of reading comprehension bothers you. I hope you don’t still think that I’m retarded or moronic.

  31. kowtz says:

    ever watched bruce willis’ “unbrealkable”????

samuel jackson = larry hughes = dwayne wade…..

  32. BustJlaze says:

    lol @ Kowtz’s “Mr. Glass” comparison…

And Dagwaller is right, that whole “soft” label is for dudes who try to shy away from contact. And DWade ain’t that. The comparison to AI is a foolish one…AI is probably the ONLY dude that has been successful with it somehow. He should have had a career ending injury in there SOMEWHERE, but managed to survive on sheer luck and determination. DWade and his fans cannot count on that same luck. He’s more likely to end up on some Shaun Livingston ish one of these days if he’s not careful. Which he will NOT be.

    LAST!!

  33. kowtz says:

Shaun Livingston… watch his knee blow out nad you can’t find another Mr. Glass…

Dwade is just young… he has athleticism and abuses it… or at least uses it to abuse others…

    but take note of his predecessors… Airness… VC… AI… Johnadell Cardel, Skywalker, JoLas… LOLZ…

all these guys nstarted out as highlyers, but eventually came up with a killer jumpshot… ;D except maybe for AI who just developed a killer side step and floater…

question is, will he able to develop that before he has a career ending injury…

  34. weng santos says:

Yep, AI is a phenom. And phenoms are rare.

Wade has about 1/4 AI’s freakishness.

  35. K-Dizzle says:

If this dude is callin Wade soft, then what the f*** are Vince and T-Mac? just to put shit in perspective

  36. Ian says:

carter and tmac suck so much they dont count

  37. QQ says:

Yeah those Ice Cream (super soft) cousins suck. Bitchasses compared to wade

  38. melofan says:

crazies man. these mavs fans should move on. still hating on dwade.. psssh. its been two years! get over it!
