Lance Stephenson: The Movie

If you think you’ve seen Born Ready before, you haven’t. The documentary focusing on Lincoln High School (NY) superstar Lance Stephenson isn’t Through the Fire, Part II or a real-life adaptation of He Got Game, even though it does tell the story of another young Coney Island hoops hero in Stephenson, a junior who is arguably the best high schooler in the country. One thing that sets Born Ready apart is that it is presented in a way which we haven’t seen before from this type of coming-of-age-before-our-eyes project.

Last night I was on-hand for the advance screening of Born Ready, which will not be released as a feature film but as a series of online “webisodes” on BornReady.tv. Starting today and for the rest of this week, two webisodes will be released daily, and starting next Monday, one new webiside will air every week. While this week’s releases will basically catch you up on Lance’s life over the past year, the brand-new weekly ones will take you through Lance’s life almost as he’s living it real-time, with Monday’s footage mostly being from the previous week.

This is a proud day for the Dime/Bounce family. The co-creators of the Born Ready project are Justin Leonard, Dime Associate Publisher and Bounce Publisher, and Paul Rivera, our former Lifestyle Editor. I’ve seen first-hand over the last year or so how hard they’ve both worked on this project, and last night’s advance screening showed the finished product is on-point. Definitely go to BornReady.tv and check it out.

  1. Celts Fan says:

Through the Fire was awesome too. Hopefully this one doesn’t become a punchline like Through the Fire has (meaning hopefully Stevenson isn’t a complete joke as a pro!)

  2. Captain America says:

Not even on ESPN? Sad. I think everyone could benefit from seeing this movie. Mom the aggressive one…gotta love dat.

  3. DOC says:

I hope he dosent fall off. A lot of these cats think they made it already and stop working once shit like this hits the fan. Tell the youngin to keep at it.

  4. John says:

Lance is a great talent but i don’t think he has the work ethic to stay on top. And for a guy his size he is not as strong as he should be.
