Redd Alert
Of all the problems that the Milwaukee Bucks have, you would think that Michael Redd is not one of them. Apparently though, there are those in Milwaukee who feel differently. From a post today on Bucks blog Brew Hoop:
What’s wrong with the 07/08 team?
Ironically, Redd has often been the scapegoat this season, frequently losing confidence in everyone but himself and causing some internal rankling because of his head-down approach in fourth quarters. But the offensive ineptitude displayed by everyone not named Redd or Mo Williams is startling, and for all the lack of leadership Redd may be guilty of, you’d have to excuse him for feeling a bit frustrated by people who want the other guys shooting more.
The post goes on to explore the roots of Milwaukee’s problems and what they should do to improve their situation. It seems as though this season is already lost, as they’d have to play some serious ball just to make the playoffs in the East:
So what’s left for the Bucks this year? While it seems reasonable to think the team’s huge group of underachievers could come around, games like the one in Charlotte yesterday have thus far been too few and far between. While the season doesn’t seem that old and the Bucks are still only three games out of the eight spot, consider that the Bucks need to win 28 of their remaining 49 games (.571 win%) to finish with 41 wins, the rough target for playoff teams in the East. Then consider that only Boston, Detroit and Miami have a winning percentage higher than that at the moment.
As bad as they’ve been this season, it seems unfortunate to be talking about blowing this team up and starting over doesn’t it? On paper, a core of Redd, Mo Williams, Yi Jianlian and Andrew Bogut should at least be able to do something in the East right?

Team should get Jeff Van Gundy as head coach….or better yet Rudy Tomjanovich. The team already has the core players. Guards (Williams, Bell, Redd), Bigs (Bogut, Villanueva, Gadzuric) and Wings (Mason, Simmons, Yi Jilian).
They need a steady voice/hand on the sidelines. Coaching. A defensive minded coach would be good for them.
No need to blow this team up. Detroit has 2 seasons left. Indy is going backwards, Cleveland still needs to put a group around LeBron and we’re not sure what direction the Bulls are going in. Milwaukee can challenge for the division next season or the yr after.

Obviously the Bucks were wrong to think that they had a good team (although I’d admit I also thought they would be better) and need to figure out where they went wrong.
Yi and Bogut are players you can build around. It would be nice to have a Josh Smith type player in the SF role.
The Milwaukee backcourt is where the wheels come off. Redd is decent and probably untradeable with that salary but is quite one dimensional. Mo Williams needs to be replaced with a top-tier playmaker. Think about it - if Chris Paul was running Milwaukee this team would make some noise. They have some nice weapons and need a PG who uses them - unlike williams who looks for his shot first, second and third.

The Bucks need to get rid of Redd and sign Scoonie Penn.

See they keep talking bad about Redd like that and its not all his fault. i mean in the bucs games i’ve seen this year (like 2 or 3) Mo Williams doesnt even look Redd’s way in crunch time. If he’s your franchise player and youre paying that much - he gets the shots with time winding down - not williams

Redd is not the problem. They need to fire Larry K. It’s too bad cause he’s a former Buck but home town loyalty only goes so far. He doesn’t have a good rotation, guys don’t play like their motivated, and I don’t think they look prepared. I don’t know if it’s scouting or game planing but it seems like most of the time they don’t know what they’re supposed to be doing. Very disapointing after Terry Stotts kept a depleted team playing hard and competative all last year to this.

I’ve watched the Bucks a couple of times this season, and I have to say that offensively, they doesn’t seem to have a problem. Bogut’s a pretty decent center, Yi’s one of the top rookies right now, and Redd can shoot with anyone in the L (holla, Mark Price!> The problem it seems is the execution of the offense, with guys favoring iso plays than cuts in the ring.
