January 3, 1989 – Only twice since the ’86-87 season have two teammates registered a triple-double in the same game. On this date, both MJ and Scottie Pippen doubled up in points, rebounds and assists as the Bulls edged the Clippers 126-121 in the Windy City. Jordan finished the night with 41 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds while Pippen’s triple-double was a bit more modest at 15 points, 12 assists and 10 boards. Quintin Dailey went off for 33 and 12 assists for LA.
January 3, 1991 – The Bulls visited the Rockets and their most lethal weapon was Bill Cartwright’s elbow. Cartwright connected with Hakeem Olajuwon’s eye, fracturing his eye socket and sending the Dream to the bench until February 28th. During that span, the Rockets went 15-10 without Olajuwon, but 20-7 when he returned for third place in the Midwest Division behind Utah and San Antonio.
