Has it really been FIFTEEN years since Chris Webber put on that Warriors cap on draft night (after he was traded for Penny Hardaway)? Our younger readers will one day learn that once you get into your 20s it seems every other day something makes you feel old, and of all the stuff we’ve seen this season — like the fact that Patrick Ewing and Doc “The Genius” Rivers have sons playing for Georgetown — Webber in a Warriors uniform last night trumped them all. And seeing Joe Smith out there on the court didn’t help, either. How long has it been since he suited up for Golden State? … At the beginning it wasn’t good for C-Webb. During intros he couldn’t even jump and chest-bump his teammates, and in his first rotation (Webber started at the four, with Andris Biedrins at the five) he didn’t play any defense or go hard after a single rebound. Said Reggie Miller: “He looks a little out of shape.” … Down by 13 in the first half after letting Chris Duhon go off, the Warriors cranked it up (with C-Webb sitting) and mounted a comeback highlighted by dunks from Baron Davis, Mickael Pietrus, and a sick one by Monta Ellis to close out the half. GS took the lead in the third quarter, but Duhon (34 pts, 9 asts, 3 stls) and Joe Smith (27 pts, 8 rebs) kept getting buckets and the Bulls pulled out the win … When the announcers were talking about C-Webb (12 mins, 4 pts) and Nellie’s relationship, Marv Albert asked Mike Fratello if there was ever a player he didn’t like who he had to deal with more than once. Fratello dodged the question until Reggie put him on the spot, asking him specifically about Stromile Swift and Bonzi Wells. Fratello said he had no problem with Stro Show, but added, “I only had Bonzi one time. And that was enough.” … It’s good to see Ben Wallace is still air-balling free throws. Can someone find out if they keep stats on this? Big Ben has to be the career leader. Maybe he could learn a thing or two from Mike Miller, who showed us his shooting workout … Rockets vs. Cavs: Two teams that play solid defense, but have almost stagnant offenses carried by one athletic and versatile superstar who’s flanked by a glacier-speed big man with a soft touch around the rim. Were you even surprised that one of the teams didn’t hit 80 points? Watching the supporting-cast guys drop T-Mac and LeBron’s passes and brick wide open jumpers was like watching Dr. Dre and Scott Storch try to make beats on a Fisher-Price piano … T-Mac was ill and had been hospitalized earlier in the day. He didn’t even have a good stat line (8 pts, 7 rebs, 4 asts), but the Rockets still won in a rout. Yao had 22 points and 12 boards. LeBron put up 32 points, 7 boards and 6 dimes … The game ended when Shane Battier knocked down a trey with 1:30 left to put the Rockets up by 13, followed by Damon Jones hesitating, pump-faking, shuffling his feet and air-balling a triple on the other end. The Cavs’ emptied the bench on the ensuing whistle, and LeBron sulked on the bench looking extremely frustrated. And can you blame him? He’s just watched the Lakers and Suns make major moves to improve their chances at a championship, and even the Spurs made a move to get better (Damon Stoudamire), all while Cleveland hasn’t done anything and didn’t do anything last summer except trade for Cedric Simmons and drag their feet on re-signing Varejao and Pavlovic. Not to mention the lack of activity this season from the Rockets. Are we even sure the decision-makers in Cleveland and Houston really want to win? … The Sixers took care of business at home against the Heat. One concern (even if they don’t admit it) that some Miami fans have with the Marion/Shaq deal is that the Heat might win too many games and play themselves out of position to get Michael Beasley, Derrick Rose or another top-flight pick. We wouldn’t worry about that. Marion will do some things to get the Heat a few more wins, but looking at this group against Philly, they just aren’t good, and their spirit seems broken. Unless Marion surprises everyone and rallies the troops like Denzel in Remember the Titans, they won’t have any trouble landing a blue-chip rookie … After Rodney Carney unleashed a hellacious dunk on D-Wade’s head and gave him a little glare, Wade (19 pts, 9 asts) came back later in the game and dropped the hammer on Carney, standing over him and taunting him … Peter Vecsey was on “NBA TV Daily” talking about how the Heat are locked into a contract with “Corie Blount” for a long time … Eric Gordon didn’t have the best shooting night (3-for-13 FGs), but he stuck a triple to force OT and scored 19 in Indiana’s double-OT win over Illinois. Jeffrey Jordan played 10 minutes and scored 2 points. If you don’t know the backstory on this one, Gordon had committed to the Illini when he was a junior, but later changed his mind and decided on Indiana. The recruiting battle was so fierce that even the Indiana/Illinois football game was being called the “Gordon Bowl” and he was just getting abused by the Illini fans last night … O.J. Mayo scored 29 on Washington. No backstory there, O.J.’s just really good … As loaded as this year’s freshman class is (the H.S. Class of ‘07), how does it stack up against those of the past five years? And have you seen the upcoming high school Class of ‘09? Crazy amount of talent. Over on HighSchoolHoop.com, we broke down the best classes in recent memory HERE … We’re out like taunting D-Wade …

  1. YOUNGFED says:

Lebron should ask for a buyout and way to go D-Wade don’t let no lame try to get big with you.

Question who’s really the best Beasley or Mayo.

  2. Alex "Robocop" Murphy says:

if you’re not first, you’re last!

  3. YOUNGFED says:

    I say Beasley but Mayo’s a close 2nd.

  4. Str8baller says:

Nocioni did it again… POSTER. dunked on, and so was D Wade.

  5. sirak says:

20s… man i’m 5 weeks from 30! i remember Larry Johnson going number 1 pick and chasing for his hoops rookie card, i remember watching Dee Brown win the dunk comp (and seeing this kid named Kemp and making him my favorite player) and remember MJ winning his first chip… i could go on for ever , them were the days…

  6. YOUNGFED says:

    Question of the Day?

Who’s got the best BIG 3 in the West? I say Denver but SI.com seems to think it’s the spurs.

Also wouldn’t you guys love to see a 3 on 3 featuring Melo, AI, Camby vs. KG, Ray, and Pierce that would by sick.

  7. PERPLEXED says:

I don’t know what is worse:
Drew Gooden’s shitty Suge Knight wanna-beard or Damon Jones’ FagHawk

  8. jz_smoove says:

damon’s hawk looks dumber, by a mile. and why did the league ban taunting again? it takes away from the game, and also the natural persona of the players. it took rasheed a while to adjust to this and seems to be doing aight now, but still there is no more ooomph from players. how was shaq showcasing #32 for his phoenix jersey? amare must have gotten something really ill from diesel for that. oh yeah, i project beasley #1 come draft night. and as for the seniors in this site, i still remember how orlando wooldridge was the first dude i saw do a between-the-legs dunk (and nobody did it since rider revived it). to put it in perspective, not a lot even know who wooldridge is anymore and over a decade since the rider dunk.

  9. djKianoosh says:

Trying to rank the Big 3’s (or sometimes 4) out west from the top 10 teams:

    1. Duncan, Parker, Ginobili : They’re the Champs still, until proven otherwise in the playoffs, respect comes from earning it, not hype

    2. Melo, AI (or AI, Melo?), Camby : Tons of firepower + boards, blocks, steals

    3. Kobe, Bynum, Odom/Gasol : Still unproven, but Kobe’s greatness makes up for it.

    4. Dirk, Howard, Terry : Lethal deep range from Dirk, intangibles from Howard and clutch shooting from Terry

    5. Nash, Amare, Shaq : Unproven, but potential is huge

    6. Deron, Boozer, ? : Not sure who the 3rd guy really is, but they went to the west finals and those two are deadly enough together. If they have a clear #3 who is it? Okur? AK? Kyle now?

    7. Paul, Peja, West/Tyson : Not playoff tested enough, yet…

    8. Baron, SJax, Harrington/Monta : dynamite! The new Suns, or a 1 year wonder?

    9. Yao, TMac, ? : Too inconsistent due to injury and they’re still stuck in the first round

    10. Roy, Aldridge, ? : Damn, imagine the possibilities with a healthy Oden

That was a tough list to rank….

Not sure where I put the C’s 3. Do any other teams in the L have a big 3? No wonder those top 10 teams are separated by like 5 games now…

  10. Big Aaron says:

    EAST BAY FUNK DUNK

  11. YOUNGFED says:

    DJ
lot of question marks DJ but we’re talking 3 on 3’s I got say Melo, AI, Camby would handle any other 3

  12. Celts Fan says:

I would love to see that Youngfed, but I think Boston wins based on 2 things: size advantage over AI for whoever’s playing him, and KG is nearly as good as Camby on D and light years ahead of him offensively. I’d be interested to see LAL vs. Boston 3 on 3 (and jsut as interested to see which 3 they bring, though for 3 on 3, Lamar’s a perfect fit, so I’d say it’s Kobe, Lamar, and Bynum, and I’d say that’s probably a W for the Lakers if Lamar leaves the bong at home)

No Derrick Rose in your top 2? I’d take him over OJ Mayo personally, but you guys have seen my preference for true PGs over the Gilberts of the world in the Rondo discussions, so that’s probably not a surprise…

  13. IGP says:

I’m gonna be 23 in March and I remember Woolridge I think…dude had goggles right? I think I remember him playing for the Nuggets…my favorite player of all time is David Robinson my best memories of basketball in the 90s was the Dream Team they were so good. The teams now just don’t play like they used to…

  14. Celts Fan says:

*Boston wins vs. Denver, I wrote that after Post 6…

  15. Borgs says:

    Nice work, djKianoosh.

As a Jazz fan, I say Kirilenko is the Jazz’s third wheel. He’s multi-faceted, has the best basketball IQ (perhaps Williams aside) and is the only good defender we have.

  16. PERPLEXED says:

    IGP
So, you’re 22 years old. That’s the age where lots of dudes are banging your girlfriend behind your back, so enjoy it.

…but I do agree David Robinson was one of, if not the most, athletic big men ever. No one could, or can do, what he has done. Dream was close, but DR was the shit.

  17. Juanito says:

I was at that draft at the Palace when C-Webb went first. I’m also the same age as him. Now I feel old as hell…

  18. Celts Fan says:

Absolutely Borgs. I’m a huge fan of AK47’s game. Dude does EVERYTHING. I was praying the Celtics would pick him up when his value was wicked low in the offseason (obviously before I ever imagined what we have now) He and Shawn Marion are an extremely rare kind of player that’s versatile enough to defend all 5 positions and play 2 or 3 themself on the offensive end too. Remember a few years ago when he put up a 5×5? That’s rarer than a quadruple double!

  19. Celts Fan says:

David was nice, but the Dream is a top 5 center ever. That fadeaway move he had was absolutely unstoppable and smooth as hell. Dream was one of my favorite players ever to watch…

  20. ldawg23 says:

Amare as known since last yeat they were getting SHAQ, we just didnt pay attention to the signs..Amare changed is number (32) to number (1)….Why would he give up is long time number of 32? Cause thats Shaq’a number, and he knew SHAQ would want that number, and wouldnt settle for anything less. So to make him happy he change. You cant change numbers during the season, unless you wanna pay a hefty fine

  21. Tom from Cleveland says:

Cavs had 3 of their top 7 out (Varejao, Gooden, and Pavlovic) and Gibson went out in the 3rd quarter. Pretty tough for any team to win like that.

  22. YOUNGFED says:

Celts your’re crazy if you think Bostons big 3 is better AI would break Mr. Shuttlesworth’s ankle. Melo is too much for Pierce down low but KG would probably get Camby.

  23. YOUNGFED says:

Oh I forgot David Robinson was the only center I ever saw 360 from damn near the free throw line. I quess maybe Howard could but I doubt it.

  24. Bron42 says:

beasly is milessss ahead of mayo. mayo isn’t even the second best frosh this year. he probably isn’t even the best frosh on his team. beasly is almost a sure fire double double, maybe triple. Oj will give you 20 points, take ALOT of shots, and have ALOT of bad attempts and turn overs in the process not really worried if his team wins or loses cuz hes lookin forward to the nba. gimme beasly, rose, deandre jordon, gordon, bayless or someone like that before mayo even comes into the question.

  25. YOUNGFED says:

Bron42 come on I’ll give you Rose but Mayo is 4sho in the Top 3

  26. SWAT says:

PERPLEXED i think you have every one here perplexed at how you can even type “Dream was close but DR was the shit…” WTF!?! Dream schooled david multiple times! Yall san an fans gotta be on the bullshit!
YOUNGFED did DR really 360 like that…i don’t remember that shit nor do i remember hearing about that. Damn what the hell was I watching? “We don’t believe you, you need more people-Jay z
On another note Kenny and Charles were talking about how TMAC needs to be traded asap. They were saying the rockets aren’t that much better w/ him playing. If they try to move him…who else is out there besides Kidd?

  27. Jim says:

Off-topic a bit, but can’t ever pass up the opportunity to give ups to the last generation.

I’m from Austin so David was my man growing up, but Hakeem was the best. Hakeem is one of the best 5’s ever, and has a Finals ass-whooping on Shaq on the resume, not to mention 3-4 playoff beatdowns on the Admiral. Why Hakeem is so underrated I’ll never understand, he was clearly the 2nd best player of the decade.

  28. YOUNGFED says:

Ya Swat I saw it was sick don’t remember who they were playing though. It mite have been against the Pistons since I really only use to watch them back in the day. If Dime came find that video and post it I think we all would be 4ever greatful.

PS DR beasted Hakeem a few times to.

  29. laballer says:

no way boston three wins over denvers three..who is guarding AI? no one on that list..jesus can still shoot it better than denver’s three..but i dont see anyone being able to stop AI period…

rodney carney? WHO? im soooo glad d-wade came back at him and let him know what the deal is..he has that same killer instinct and pride that u see in kobe, lebron and them..anytime u go at them..they always come back harder and make you feel stupid for trying..loved it..

  30. YOUNGFED says:

Oh by the way it was 2-handed 360

  31. PERPLEXED says:

my bad. Dream was the shit.

I guess I see David Robinson in a better light, announcing he was retiring at the end of the season, then he goes out and wins his second Title. Bang !!!

….versus Dream wasting away on the bench in Toronto.

  32. PERPLEXED says:

    YOUNGFED

That 360 was David Robinson’s patented dunk for like 3,4 years, early on in his career - I remember that shit.
He’d hit his head on the rim and the backboard.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA5dIFq7CNw

  33. Brown says:

ldawg, I think the fine is somewhere between $25K and $50K. I remember when Jordan went back to #23, there was a big fine, but I can’t remember who had to pay it, Jordan or the Bulls. His #23 might have been retired at the time too, so if that’s the case, changing jersey numbers mid-season probably isn’t all that costly. That’s chump change for even the guys at the end of the bench.

Also, I figured C-Webb’s return was gonna be a mild one. Dude needs to get into game shape like yesterday. Still, they shouldn’t have gotten cracked by the Bulls.

  34. SWAT says:

lol very true perplexed. I hated when they traded him to Toronto. and DIME please find the 2 handed 360 dunk YOUNGFED is talking about…i gotta see this. I always thought David was soft and didn’t have that type of dunk in him.

  35. PERPLEXED says:

that was the only clip I could find

he used to do that from the free-throw line while leading the break

  36. SWAT says:

HAHA. Growing up in houston may have made my opinion of that cat a lil biased. I stand corrected.

  37. isotope says:

DR beasting Hakeem? Yeah. Sure. And being athletic, y’all dont remember Hakeem when he was still Akeem. His college Phi Slamma Jamma days and his first couple years in the L. Before he bacame a finesse player. Sorry he was more athletic than DR.

The Rockets have won 5 in a row and are quickly moving up in the very hard West. That might be why they’re hesitating to make a major move and mess up the chemistry. 1 observation about last nights Rockets/Cavs game: it seemed like the Rockets were content in letting Lebron get his and not get others involved. There were two times I saw Battier put him on lock and then other times he just let him get his. That way he doesnt really get his teammates involved and they dont get as many looks. I wonder if other teams do this.

  38. Myrie says:

Dwyane Wade has now go to put Rodney Carney into his Fave Five…
…then again, maybe not since Wade redeemed himself and put Carney on his ass.

Chris Webber back in the Bay huh? I dunno what to make of this. I thought it was foolish when I first heard it. There is/was a reason the Pistons had no use for him. Remember when Shaquille O’Neal and Chris Webber could have been teammates in Orlando?

…anyone on this forum who doesn’t know nor hasn’t heard of Orlando Woolridge…shame on you. And don’t come back until you take a refresher course on the history of the NBA and its players.

How the hell did Chris Duhon score 34pts in a game? I can’t believe me eyes. Maybe the Dukies win over the Tarheels inspired him. I still better not see his name on the fantasy list….

Marv Albert is still calling games huh?…Do any of you wonder what he’ll be wearing under his suit next Thursday when he’ doing the TNT game?…afterall, it will be Valentine’s Day.

Peter Vecsey is a waste. How come his ’sources’ didn’t tell him Shawn Marion was going to be traded for Shaquille O’Neal a week ago?
…when was the last time Corie Blunt appeared in an NBA game?

Jeffrey Jordan can’t ball, but I bet you he’s getting a lot of play with the shorties in the sororities…

  39. Bron42 says:

youngfed, top 3? his team sucks, he plays no defense and hasnt really beat anyone…his whole career in matchups with other big names mayo loses. your tellin me mayo is better than eric gordan? beasly, rose, gordon….mayo would be fightin for jennings or the big from syracuse spot at #5 and #6 on the list.

  40. YOUNGFED says:

Good Looking out PERPLEXED, how did you find it. I told you SWAT I wasn’t lying.

  41. YOUNGFED says:

Gordon is nice haven’t seen enough of him to really say but he seems inconsistant

  42. isotope says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKLbC4esWS8

    pay careful attention.

  43. YOUNGFED says:

Quick question (Non-Basketball Related) is it me or does it seem like Roger Clemens isn’t getting as much press a Bonds got and is it because Bonds is black or because he’s the Home-run king or both. Just wondering aloud. Also the writers don’t seem to be spewing the hate like they were with Bonds. Just wondering, maybe I’m trippin’ but I doubt it. Wonder if Clemens gets boed every game, I doubt it.

    I’m out Romney for president?

  44. YOUNGFED says:

I’m out like Romney for President (Lol)

  45. isotope says:

the writers already hated Bonds before the whole steroids thing. He’s just not a very personable guy and the steroids thing just made him an easier target. Clemens however has a different relationship with the media. Although, its in the news everyday and its a headline when I log into yahoo. So it is getting press. But not as negative as Bonds. There might be a lil race involved there but I wouldnt call it all that. Tejada isnt getting as much press either.

  46. Celts Fan says:

that, and Clemens’ head didn’t grow 4 hat sizes over 5 years either. I HATE Clemens and think he juiced, but with Bonds, it was obvious just looking at him. Race may have been a small part of it, but that it officially came to light as he was chasing the most hallowed record in all of sports was probably just as big of a deal, cuz let’s be real, we all knew he was juicing as far back as like 5 years ago…

  47. YOUNGFED says:

    Isotope

I don’t see it in ESPN or SI.com nearly as much with Bonds on any given day you could find 3 or 4 articles on either of those sites and they still ain’t proved Bonds took’em. They turning over evidence on Clemens and He’ll probably be the man.

PS. I’m mad as hell cause I got Clemens rookie card.

I’m out like the value of that rookie card.

  48. YOUNGFED says:

Celts whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty also Clemens head is big as hell too. That also happens win you get fat.

  49. . says:

    .

  50. Celts Fan says:

hahaha amazing Youngfed. Clemens’ head was about that size back in ‘86 when he first started though. you could land a space shuttle on the forehead Bonds has grown over the past 7 years.

and innocent until proven guilty is for a court of law, not a court of public opinion. Unless he’s proven guilty in court, they should both go to the Hall, but it doesn’t mean we don’t think they did it…

  51. Myrie says:

Race has always been a major issue and sports and it still is the BIGGEST issue in sports. 50% of every sports article has to do with race; let’s not be naive here.

…if you disagree, then just ask yourself…”why are they reporting this to me”? It does not directly impact my everyday life (like lets say oppose to gas prices), so why does the sports media report certain stories the way they do?”

You can either accept it or fight it, but race (not money)is the biggest issue/factor in sports.

…as for the use of steroids; I am conflicted. I know it is against the rule, but I am not convinced it helps. Especially in baseball of all sports.

Baseball requires the most skill of the major sports. Either you have it or you don’t. Either you can throw a ball from third base to first base to get a base runner out..or you can’t. A steriod injection is not going to help you. Either you can hit a 91mph breaking ball…or you can’t. An HGH injection won’t help you.

Do you think you can take the average man off the street, inject him with steroids/hgh for two weeks and then he’ll be able to hit a baseball 600ft thats coming at him 90mph?…an average man?

  52. isotope says:

race is NOT the biggest issue in sports. Its an issue but definitely not the biggest. In fact, when it is an issue is when it concerns ticket sales and PR. People make it an issue for some other reason i.e. money, attention, mind games, etc.

  53. GEE...I want my contract extension DIME! says:

I don’t feel like typing a lot today. Just glad Houston won. They still need to make a trade though.

Hey if anyone watches Rob and BIG (I love that show) they always say “Do Work” (I love that slogan). Someone should have that nickname. Who though?

Anyway that is, that is all y’all have a great weekend!

  54. ldawg23 says:

    BROWN
the fine is 25 or 50k PER GAME…over 40 plus games thats 1,000,000 -2,000,00 for the year…No pplayer wants to give that up. If they didnt care, they would sign for less money to play on a winning team

  55. Celts Fan says:

Myrie, you’re dead on that steroids won’t take someone that can’t play and make him great, but what it will do is take someone that can play and make him better. It ads velocity, torque, and strength to a swing (or throw) and can add upwards of 5mph to a fastball. Look at how many people hit 60+ HRs in the “steroid years” of ‘98-’05 and then remember it’d only been done twice in the history of baseball beforehand.

and race isn’t the biggest issue in sports, come on now. It can be an issue, but it’s not THE issue. If Mark McGuire was going for the all-time HR record once these allegations came to light (don’t use Marris’ record in ‘98, cuz the whole country still had their heads in the sand on the steroids issue then) he’d be getting the same treatment (note how he’s still not in the Hall after the “I’m not here to talk about hte past, I’m here to move forward,” fiasco in front of Congress. The only reason that he hasn’t been ripped even more is that he was already retired when that went down and he essentially went into hiding after it.

  56. YOUNGFED says:

Glad to see I’m not the only one that feels that way Myrie. Sorry for the Basketball interuption but this was something I felt need to be addressed would’ve have like to see a few more opinions on the subject but I know its a subject many are afraid to discuss glad to see that those who did respond had the guts and intelligence to discuss it rationally.

  57. YOUNGFED says:

Race is a Major issue in sports why is the only sport thats predominantly BLACK have a dresscode. Why is the best golfer in the world always hearing little racist side snaps (Watermelon and chicken) come the Fuq on. Why is the greatest baseball player alltime (BONDS) getting boed every came. These are questions you should ask yourself Celts and Isotope.

  58. Myrie says:

    Celtsfan–

“Look at how many people hit 60+ HRs in the “steroid years” of ‘98-’05 and then remember it’d only been done twice in the history of baseball beforehand.”

I hear ya….but look at the amount of smaller ballparks built during that period. Much shorter distances.

  59. isotope says:

What the…? Dress Code is racist? I don’t see how that is racist or even a bad thing. “Gosh, they’re forcing me to dress nice in clothes I can afford. I can’t take it anymore. The NBA is ruthless!” LOL.

Tiger Woods does not ALWAYS hearing racist side snaps. Apart from the last recent two, when was the last one? His race is a factor because he’s a minority in THAT sport. You can’t ignore that. They shouldnt treat him any less, and I dont think most do. He’s still considered him the best golfer by everyone. How’s that for a white-dominated sport. Game respects game, inspite of the color.

Why is Bonds booed and Ken Griffey Jr not booed? How about Dontrelle Willis? He’s not booed. Wait, Pujols doesnt get booed either. If Bonds didnt act like a jerk and didnt tick the media off every interview, he wouldnt get booed. Its like wrestling, LOL. There are good guys and bad guys. Regardless of how good they are, if they’re heels, they get booed.

  60. YOUNGFED says:

Bagging Jeans and Gold Chains trademarks of African American culture I he wants to stop that Half of the NBA thinks it’s racist to. Also why should Tiger ever have to here it. It’s more to w/Bonds Isotope. But going back and forth has been fun. Holla!

  61. Celts Fan says:

well Sosa hit 60 three times, and I’m pretty sure Wrigley wasn’t built during that time.

Basketball has a dress code as a reaction to all the bad publicity they received after the brawl. I’ll give you that that smacks of racism, but athletes in other sports show up in team apparrel (see any football sideline) or in suits. Some basketball players (A SMALL PERCENTAGE, NOT ALL) were showing up in jeans a white T. Regardless of race, you need to come better than that, I think they should just do what the NFL does and say just wear team stuff instead. When sponsors start mentioning crap like that and it affects the bottom line, then something gets done, and it wasn’t until sponsors started moaning that the dress code really went into affect. Coincidently enough, the decision makers for the sponsors are the same type of d-bags that worship golf, which leads me to…

I’ll give you Tiger, but golf is a whole ‘nother world. Those are the “good old boys” that look down on everyone and still act like it’s 1900. Those kind of people make me friggin sick, but a golf clubhouse and that demographic of people that watch/attend/cover it (while broadening greatly thanks to Tiger) isn’t even close to the people who do the same for any of our “real” (as in, you have to be able to run) sports. The upper tax bracket (aka Republican-heavy, and not to get too political, but they’re the same party saying, “Round up and kick out all the illegals,” “gays should be constitutionally NOT allowed to marry,” and tons of other biggoted shit like that that somehow is okay) loves golf, the real, everyday Americans are much more passionate about football, basketball, and baseball.

Bonds was constantly getting booed everywhere once it became obvious he took steroids, and not before. He was getting booed because he was a 3 time MVP and shoe-in for the HOF when he weighed 185, yet still took that crap.

Race can be a huge issue sometimes and does rear its ugly head plenty of times in sports (and everywhere else) but I disagree that it’s as prevalent as you think. Maybe I’m just trying to be optimistic and hope that that crap was left in the past where it belongs. Maybe it’s that I’m a white guy living in the northeast, and not minority living in the south or something (no offense southerners, but you’re not exactly known as progressives!) but I haven’t seen it as prevalently as you have.

  62. T.M.P.B.W.O.T.P. says:

Race in sports has always been and will always be an issue. As much “progress” as our society makes in addressing race and trying to ease racial tensions, it will never go away. That’s just the reality.

In sports, you see race playing a factor ALL THE TIME, especially in sports media.

Look at how the Michael Vick case was covered — almost every anti-Vick opinion aired was by a White person, and almost ever pro-Vick opinion aired was from a Black person.

Look at the difference between the Bonds coverage and the Clemens coverage. In everything from the photos they choose to use when talking about either guy (Clemens is usually smiling; Bonds looks miserable) to the slight slant in coverage that Clemens might be innocent and Bonds is 100% guilty.

  63. Celts Fan says:

to be fair on the Clemens vs. Bonds thing, Clemens gets a slight chance of being innocent because, after his name got dragged through the mud, he did everything he could to clear it, including suing people who he claims lied about him using ‘roids. Bonds has yet to do something even close to that. He’s just said he didn’t do it. When you put the 2 next to each other, they’re very different cases. Compare Bonds with McGwire and you get a fairer comparison, because they both act like they have something to hide.

Having said that, you make a great point about the pictures they use of each guy when they portray Bonds and Clemens. Never thought of it like that…

  64. doc says:

Clemens fake suing because somebody told on his nut ass. Bonds just got the feds on him and nobody else so who he gonna sue. Regardless what yall say this world is racist in and out of sports. But if you aint been through it you wouldnt understand ya dig. And Keem was better than David but dont be naive and say Dave never cooked him because they played at least 5 times a year and keem aint win them all. And I like Mayo too. I take Beasly and Rose after that its a toss up. How can you say he dont care about wins he be ballin out there hard. You must didnt see him Ding up against UCLA. That youngin gonna be a problem.

  65. T.M.P.B.W.O.T.P. says:

What else could Bonds do but say he didn’t do it? That’s not enough of a denial? Maybe he’s not suing people because he’s cheap and doesn’t wanna pay his lawyers. Maybe he’s not suing because he feels the claims are so ridiculous that he’s not gonna go through a court battle over it. I won’t claim to know why Bonds isn’t as public with his denials, but I don’t think it’s because he’s any more guilty than Clemens.

  66. Myrie says:

Steroids or no steroids, HGH or no hgh….
…race(ism) in sports or no race(ism) in sports…
…there may NEVER be another overall athelete like my man BO JACKSON.

Half human, half bionic machine. BO JACKSON!!
Never took any substances….just pure raw athletic greatness.

  67. Celts Fan says:

I don’t think it’s cuz he’s any more guilty than Clemens either, I think they both did it. I’m just saying, when Canseco’s book came out, where was the lawsuit? I’m not talking about the perjury charge (though if they have enough evidence to bring a case against you, it’s not good) but when that book came out saying that he did it, he could’ve and should’ve sued. If he truly didn’t do it, it’s called slander, and people get sued for MUCH less nowadays (remember the guy that got paralyzed getting fought off by the guy he was mugging? dude won like $10M!) My point is, if it was me, and I didn’t do anything, I’d be out there like Clemens (who I think is lying), telling anyone that would listen. At the very least, you have to admit he’s acting like he’s got something to hide.

and no one said there wasn’t any racism at all in sports or the world. Unfortunately, there still is. The point was that it’s not THE issue in sports.

  68. Celts Fan says:

Bo looks like he couldn’t have taken that crap, cuz the needle would break trying to push it through those arms! What a freak of nature. Too bad he messed up his hip like he did (and anyone that remembers back to Tecmo Bowl on the original Nintendo has a special place in their heart for him!)

  69. Myrie says:

    WoW!….
    TECMO BOWL…
hut hut hut hut hut hut….

  70. Celts Fan says:

this train came flying off the tracks real quick! Let’s get this back to basketball.

If they were to hold a 1 on 1 tournament for all NBA players, who do you think wins?

  71. Myrie says:

    what about Double Dribble?
    who remembers that game?
some fool stole that cartidge from me….

  72. Celts Fan says:

that was the one you ran around punching the other team right, or was that Arch Rivals?

  73. GEE...I want my contract extension DIME! says:

Celts that was Arch Rivals ( I was a beast on that game) and who remembers having to blow the cartridge to make it work lol.

If it’s a 1 on 1 Tourney I am going with LeBron, he has the size, smarts and killer instinc.

Honestly who gone beat LeBron 1 on 1, Kobe got the best chance but outside of him not nobody (yea double negative folks)

    1

  74. Celts Fan says:

I definitely remember having to blow the cartridge to make it work! The fact that anyone under 20 is reading this and thinking, “What the hell was Arch Rivals?” makes me feel much older than Doc and Ewing having kids on Georgetown!

  75. Myrie says:

in an NBA 1 on 1 is where a lot of the guys at the end of the bench would perform well. And all those underrated ballers would shine.

Monta Ellis, Baron Davis and Lou Williams would kill in 1 on 1. Allen Iverson would have to be the early favorite just because he would never get tired. Jamal Crawford and Kobe Bryant would be a handful. Stephon Marbury and Rafer Alston would hurt feelings.

But overall….I think I’d go with Carmelo Anthony in a 1-on-1 tourney.

Size, quickness, ball handle, toughness, range, leaping ability, determination…his overall game is suited the best for 1 on 1.

Myrie is going with Carmelo Anthony.

  76. Celts Fan says:

and I’d give the 1 on 1 tourney to:

    1. Kobe
    2. LeBron
    3. TMac
    4. AI (he’d be #1 by a mile if he was 6′6″)
    5. Matrix

  77. Celts Fan says:

well done Myrie. You managed to give some good info, list some sleepers, and refer to yourself in the 3rd person. all in all, that’s a great post!

I feel like Melo would be fine offensively, but defensively, I don’t know how he’d do against the elite guys. Pretty sure that he’d let up a 5 or 6 basket run to some like Kobe or LeBron and that’d be that. I’d still put him top 10 though.

What the hell, my next 5:

    6. KG
    7. Baron Davis
    8. Melo
    9. AK47
    10. Igudala

  78. ??? says:

Charles Oakley would win a 1 on 1 tournament, because he would REALLY FOUL the crap out of anybody and never let them shoot.

In today’s world, Kobe. He would kill Lebron.

  79. doc says:

u never know. It might be a bench player that win.Remember that 1 on 1 tourney that was the undercard to the Doc vs. Kareem 1 on 1. Bo Kimble won that and was never heard from again.

  80. isotope says:

Yeah w/o double teams, picks, and a shot clock I dont even think Kobe would get it. The best crossover dribble or the hottest shooter would win. Imagine Jason Kapono just sitting at the arch. LOL. Then you got the elite defenders like Bowen, Battier, AK47, and Ruben Patterson (LOL) putting people on lock. I see a dude like Gerald Green getting his. AI, Chris Paul, and Jamal Crawford leaving defenders stuck in the mud.

Also depends on the matchups; I dont think Lebron and AI would be able to stop each other.

But anyways if we limit it to All stars I would give it to AI or Kobe.

  81. Celts Fan says:

it’s not limited to all stars, but if you can’t defend, you’re screwed, if you can’t score, you’re screwed, if you can’t dribble (looking at you Tony Allen) you’re screwed, and if you’re really small (sorry AI, you’re 3 spots lower than you could be) you’re screwed.

  82. Ian says:

    youngfed overall

    spurs
suns (no wait they traded marion they dont have a big three now)
    celts
    mavs
    denver
    lakers

    i remember reading on espn
    spurs
    suns
    celts
    when the season began

    denvers three cant beat
    spurs or celts three
duncan and garnett are way better than camby and the others can play each other to a draw

    the admiral my fav ever
no one that size can move like that
and no need to mention that the admiral dunk was two handed 90% of his dunks were
there one play u can find on youtube vs the bulls that the man steals the ball goes off pulls the ball back so jordan cant swipe it and finishes of with a dunk like hes a 6´5 guard

    http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=CKVqpXl3M18&feature=related
look at that shit d howard cant move like that

most of the people that mention the 95 playoffs vs the rockets didnt watch the series just read the results

isotope i know u saw it

  83. Ian says:

bonds a bitch thats why hes hated is not racial
people loved sammy (he portrayed himself diffently than what he really is , the man hated big mac but look at all the shit he did acting)

and to all the superstars that used
    big mac
    sammy
palmeiro (loved the finger in congress “never”)
    bonds

bonds was the one that double his hrs per season the man had never hit more then 49 before
    thats big macs rookie season

but then again if u suck and use steroids u still suck if u r good and use it u can be better for a longer peroid of time (bonds)

  84. Ian says:

    quick question
has anyone ever been sweept out of the playoffs more than
    shaq????

    i have
    94 indiana
    95 houston
    96 bulls
    98 utah
    99 spurs
    07 bulls

and a couple of just one win series to go with that

  85. isotope says:

lol @ Ian. Did you watch the youtube clip I posted. See if you can count how many times on there Hakeem stole the ball went down court and dunked it. Yes I watched that series. Robinson aint no punk. No way. But better than Hakeem? I dont think so.

  86. Ian says:

iso i think u didnt understand the post but ok
let me ask u how was hakeem guarded in the series and how was david guarded

he was more athletic than hakeem
just as fast with more power
es i have seen hakeem do that hell ive seen shaq do that
and hakeem doesnt look better than david doing it so whats your point
there no point on going whos the best we will be here for ever
of all the elite teams of the 90s david had to carry his team more than the others
proof of that check what happened when the players left other teams
jordan bulls made it to the second round
shaq magic still got the playoffs
    ewing knicks gets injured finals
robinson spurs jum 17 wins and get duncan (cant complain)

before fans of jordan shaq and ewing come with whos better shit
i didnt mention whos better than who just about the load they had to carry

  87. dagwaller says:

I got all the way down to post 60 something before I just started laughing. Again, I’m not going to respond to anything in particular, but I DO want to say that I’ll boo Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, and Miguel Tejada for using steroids…or else just ignore baseball completely, since it’s a terrible sport.

I’ve never had a job where I didn’t have to wear either a uniform/dress code while I was at work, or else represent the company well if I were at a company function. And I make a lot less than these guys.

Oh yea, and in a 1v1, you guys are crazy if you don’t think a 4 or a 5 would win, particularly guys with touch like Memo, Dirk, Yao, Sheed, Ilgauskas, Marion, etc. Kobe would get boxed out by Shaq 9 times out of 10, and Shaq could back Kobe down 10 times out of 10. Think about it.

  88. Celts Fan says:

That’s why the majority of my top 10 were bigger guys. Not many PGs. The thing is, those bigs still need to score AND stay with the guy they’re playing. Shaq could back down Kobe 10 times, but once Kobe has the ball, how can Shaq possibly stop him other than hoping he misses one of the open looks he’ll get. That’s why it’s a good question. I think the bigger skill players are at an advantage, but the versatile 2s, 3s, and 4s like Marion, LeBron, and Kobe would be most ideal in my opinion…
