To wit: the 11th seed in this bracket of our 1-on-1 tournament is a seven-time All-Defensive Team member with three championship rings. The 7th seed? One of the three most complete point guards the game has ever seen. And on the outside (way outside) looking in stands Steve Francis, an All-Star starter just four years ago who was averaging 21 points, 7 dimes and 6 boards three years ago.
The rules, in case you haven’t been around: Straight 1-on-1, make it-take it, games to 11, all hypothetical. The six division winners will advance to the finals, with two of them getting a bye. (Just like the NFL playoffs.) Vote in the comments section to determine the first-round winners:

duncan would just post stojakovic, ditto west over howard and ming over gay. funny that so many people think that a guy whose 3pt shooting is below 40% could beat a 7 footer (even one whose foot’s broken lol). hard to win a 1v1 game shooting corner 3s, so bowen would get ripped. it’s also hard to get dunks when you don’t have paul feeting you every time, so nowitzki beats chandler. kidd’s too slow to keep up with parker anymore, although his size would make it tight. paul over terry, terry’s got shooting but that’s about it in this matchup.

(1) Tim Duncan vs. (16) Peja Stojakovic…..uhm, maybe it’s just me, but I dont really see TD winning a 1-1 battle with a guard/wing, who in theory should be able to beat Timbot off the dribble. Peja would also just bomb the long ball, while TD needs to get the midrange game.
(8) Josh Howard vs. (9) David West…..Josh Howard
(5) Yao Ming vs. (12) Rudy Gay….See TD vs Peja….I would take Rudy, he would just bust Yao up.
(4) Tracy McGrady vs. (13) Mike Miller….TBack
(6) Manu Ginobili vs. (11) Bruce Bowen…..This would be one of the two best matchups here….I would go with Manu, but it would be close due to BB’s defense

(7) Jason Kidd vs. (10) Tony Parker…..Would have to take Parker, due to the fact that Kidd cant shoot, I would score this one 11-10

I think a healthy T-Mac could only be beaten by Duncan here, and TD might be a little too slow for that these days. TD defends well under the basket, but I don’t know how well he could chase T-Mac around the court with no help. I made alot of my picks based on defense, because there is no wide open shot in 1v1 like there is in 5v5. Reasonably skilled bigs have an advantage there, and I don’t see Manu winning with Bowen stuck all over him and nobody there to pick/screen him off.
TP/Kidd is tough. Kidd plays good D… sometimes, and TP sometimes forces bad shots, hard to say who’d have the better game.

(8) Josh Howard vs. (9) David West - Josh Howard. Howard is kind of streaky, but more athletic. David West has the size advantage. I’ll give the edge to Howard, but not by much.
(5) Yao Ming vs. (12) Rudy Gay - Rudy Gay. Yao’s foot is broken… Even when healthy, Rudy is too fast/athletic for Yao. Yao would have trouble taking the ball from the arc to the paint.
(4) Tracy McGrady vs. (13) Mike Miller - T-Mac. His athleticism takes the match.
(6) Manu Ginobili vs. (11) Bruce Bowen - Manu. How did Bruce get an 11 seed over Peja, Mike Miller, and Rudy Gay?
(3) Dirk Nowitzki vs. (14) Tyson Chandler - Dirk. He’s got all the moves on offense. He’d give Chandler the business.
(7) Jason Kidd vs. (10) Tony Parker - Tony Parker. this is a coin-toss match-up. I take Parker’s youth.
(2) Chris Paul vs. (15) Jason Terry - Chris Paul. Not even close.
