Night Owls

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONBaron Davis (Photo. Tim Tadder)

If the Warriors are going to be this entertaining all the time, we won’t mind staying up past 1 a.m. on the East Coast and watching their games. Last night GS was down by as much as 23 to the Wizards, who were desperate for a win after dropping seven straight, until Stephen Jackson caught fire. Playing on an ankle that he was literally dragging behind him just a couple days ago against Sacramento, S-Jack shot the Warriors back into it and even threw down a lefty dunk in Dominic McGuire’s mug. Jackson ended up with 41 points in Golden State’s comeback win, scoring 13 of the team’s last 15 points in the fourth quarter. He wasn’t perfect by any means; Jackson missed a breakaway dunk and a breakaway layup down the stretch, but got bailed out by foul calls and was able to convert from the line … Play of the game: With a chance to tie the game with a minute left, S-Jack missed a free throw, but Andris Biedrins got the long rebound, handed it right back to Jackson, and when no one on the Wizards moved toward him, Captain Jack nailed a three that gave GS the lead and blew the roof off of Oracle Arena … Monta Ellis (22 pts) made one of the key plays down the stretch when he snuck up behind DeShawn Stevenson and slapped the ball out of his hands and off DeShawn’s back out of bounds, costing the Wiz a crucial possession. Earlier in the game, Monta nearly broke his neck when he was about head-level with the rim and got undercut before dropping the ball in as an afterthought. We talk about Tony Parker and Leandro Barbosa, but the fastest guy in the League might actually be Monta … It’s unfortunate that Brendan Haywood played the game of his life (20 pts, 10 rebs) and the Wizards let it go to waste … Unlike the Atlanta game last week, the Lakers took care of business against an inferior squad, dispatching of the Bobcats on the road. Pau Gasol played with more energy than we’d seen from him all year when he was with Memphis; running the floor like he was Shawn Marion or something and getting airborne like Tyson Chandler. Gasol gave Emeka Okafor 26 points, but Okafor can at least take solace in the disgusting dunk he threw down on DJ Mbenga’s head. For someone who doesn’t get much burn, DJ sure makes it into the highlight reel often … LeBron dropped 40 on the Magic in a Cavs win, one of the best — Wait, wait, what’s that? LARRY HUGHES scored 40? Are we back at the U of Saint Louis? Hughes was cooking the Magic, getting into the lane like in his younger days, knocking down threes and generally playing out of his natural mind. If the Cavs had seen just a slice of last night’s Hughes during last year’s Finals, they might have stolen a game or two from the Spurs … LeBron had 29 points and 10 assists. Turns out the Cavs’ flight out of Cleveland on Sunday was delayed, which caused them to get into Orlando a lot later than usual. LeBron said before tip-off that it was the first time he hadn’t taken a pre-game nap - ever … Stan Van Gundy kind of went at Dwight Howard in the post-game press conference. “To me, it’s a matter of focus,” SVG said. “His focus is on the offensive end - he gets discouraged when he doesn’t get the ball. I know the numbers prove that what we need him to focus on to win is defense and rebounding. But that’s not what he wants to do right now, and so we’ve got a little bit of a conflict.” We can’t say we disagree with Van Gundy. Even when Dwight was putting up Moses Malone-type numbers earlier this year, a lot of it was a byproduct of how dominant he was on the glass and on defense … Spurs/Raptors last night was like a FIBA All-Star game and possibly David Stern’s favorite game of the year: Manu Ginobili (Argentina) was the MVP, notching 34 points on 6 threes, along with 15 boards and 6 dimes while abusing Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon. Then there was Jose Calderon putting up 27 points, as well as appearances by Andrea Bargnani (Italy), Fabricio Oberto (Argentina), Carlos Delfino (Argentina), Francisco Elson (Netherlands), Rasho Nesterovic (Slovenia), Tim Duncan (Team USA, but born in the Virgin Islands), Anthony Parker (former Euroleague MVP), Bruce Bowen (whose passport has some mileage on it) and Jamario Moon (who’s played almost everywhere in the world) … All day in the office, our resident Sixers (and everything else Philly) fan, Editorial Director Pat Cassidy, kept saying his team would upset the Mavs. And every time, we laughed at him. Then the Sixers went out and slapped some serious defense on the Mavs - holding them to 76 points - and Andre Miller managed to score a game-high 21 points without ever getting more than 5 inches off the ground and giving the Mavs a faceful of pull-up jumpers … Maybe we read the box score wrong, but shouldn’t it be Mo Williams handing out 11 assists and Michael Redd scoring 31 points on 20 attempts? … The end of Georgetown/Villanova was insane. Tie game, final seconds, ‘Nova ball. The Wildcats couldn’t score, and G’town point guard Jonathan Wallace emerged from a scrum with the loose ball and just a couple of seconds left to do anything. As Wallace was trying to get in position for a 3/4-court prayer, the refs actually called a foul on a defender who barely bumped Wallace along the sideline. Pretty awful call, and it sent Wallace to the line with 0.1 seconds left. Wallace sunk both freebies and the Hoyas grabbed the win … We’re out like ‘Dre Miller’s vertical …

    first, maybe…

  2. Vignesh says:

G-State crowd are da bomb..they go crazy anytime someone makes a play..especially monta or boom dizzle(my man)

  3. silkification says:

larry hughes is reliable like a Lada… but i’m sure he sleeps well at night though, with his head on that pillowcase of money…

  4. Omar says:

Actually in Egypt Ladas run forever

  5. kobeef says:

If Larry Hughes can play against Jameer Nelson for the next 40 games he is going to set career highs. Seriously, Hughes is about 6 inches taller than Jameer who is slowly showing that he is not a starting PG.

If I was a Milwaukee season ticket holder I would lobby for a policy that we get to punch Mo Williams in the face every time he takes 20 shots and the team loses. It has happened at least 10 times this year. Seriously 20 shots and 2 assists from your starting PG?

How does Manu finish with 15 rebounds and Bargnani finish with 2 rebounds in the same game? How is it physically possible that Bargs (who is at lease 7 inches taller) can’t grab at least a few of those boards?

Finally, KANSAS lost again! This time to Texas. FOr a team that was considered the best in the Country for most of the season they are falling off pretty quickly.

  6. Soopa says:

This has nothing to do with todays smack really, but i really wanna see a “America vs World all-star game”. Im not saying it has to replace the current game, but a game with the best players in the NBA actually going at it, ‘cos who’d want to lose such a game?!

  7. K-Dizzle (checkin for Tim Donaghy at Georgetown & Tennesee) says:

    Jose Calderon is the truth
lol at the larry hughes game; I actually stopped what I was doin durin the highlights cuz i thought i was sleepwalkin

    Dime
your smack title yesterday is true for today too. nuthin but 4th quarter. Spurs were runnin away and hidin when Jose went crazy. Dude about to get paid this summer. Atlanta needs to pull out the checkbook cuz he could make that team sizzle, but i doubt that the raps would be that stupid

Just to pile on the spurs fans cuz the shit is just fun now, yesterday was more of a raptors loss than a spurs win cuz lettin t-dot get back in from 20 down and barely scrapin it out on a off rebound ain’t very convincin. Convincing is what the Lakers did to Charlotte last night(KB,LO and Pau are fire right now)…yeah I saw what Okafor did to Mbenga.

    Kobeef
Manu got more boards than Bargs cuz he’s a better player. It’s not always about height (see Eddy Curry)

  8. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

I must admit G-State’s crowd is the best in the NBA to me right now. Usually the Knicks be on it too, but we all know what is going on there this year.

All imma say is Houston is creeping on a come up. Denver and GS better win out. If them boys get Kidd or Sam-I-AM Houston may indeed make more playoff noise than expected. My fear though is that they are going to love this winning streak to much and think they are sufficient for a playoff run ….and they are not.

Pau has made the Lakers a serious machine. It’s going to be real interesting how they work Bynum into all that. Really though, I am going to have to roll with the Lakers winnning it all right now. I know it’s early but in what I see, and to know Kobe can do what LeBron does PLUS he has help. Yep unless the Suns come out Blazin with Shaq, I am going to pencil in the Lakers.

LeBron shouldn’t rejoice over that Larry Hughes mess, if anything he should be mad Larry ain’t bringing at least half of that to the table consistently in all games. Hughes did his thing, but come on that is right up there with that Keliza (whoever you spell it) dude from Denver. They should trade him for Ron Artest by the way…the K dude from denver not Hughes.

Philly needs to get Andre I. some help!

Hey if I am correct is it true that Boston has not lost against a Western squad this year…..ut oh?!?!?!

  9. Celts Fan says:

a few guys left off the fastest in the L list:

AI (is this guy ever gonna slow down and decline? I remember thinking that whenever it came, which I thought would be by now, would be fast and painful to watch since most of his game is built on speed. I was waaaaaaaaaaaay off! This guy’ll be burning dudes in pickup games 30 years from now)
    TJ Ford
Rondo (he’s kept up w/ Tony Parker and TJ Ford this year, so he’s probably at least in the discussion, even if he may be towards the bottom of the upper echelon)
Mike Conley (pops has a gold medal, dude’s fast as hell, probably a safe bet to stick him in too)

  10. Celts Fan says:

Ya GEE, 16-0 vs. the West, but still no Phx or NO yet, played Dal w/out Harris (no KG definitely, and I think no Ray Allen, but that might be wrong) and played SA w/ no Parker (but again, no KG for us) We love to see that around here and are ECSTATIC how well the bench (Powe was an afterthough a month ago, now he’s a major contributor off the bench!) and Rondo have responded without KG, but no one here thinks that means crap. The only thing that matters is taking 4 games from the West in June (assuming we get there) and that 16-0 doesn’t mean anything then except that the Celtics know that they can play with them and shouldn’t be intimidated. It’s a nice record, but no one’s under any illusions that that’s anything but a confidence booster (but a fun one that we’re all enjoying while it lasts.)

  11. Sith Lord 24 says:

the Cavs need a PG BAD!!!!! if they move Lary H. to the 2 they would be Dangerous!!!!! if they had any PG worth anything they would be Dangerous!! all they need is a pg like …. lets see…. Rondo! someone like him would allow Huges to Score, which is what he does best.

  12. Bust Jlaze says:

    Yo Soopa…

They already have that, son…it’s called the OLYMPICS.

  13. kobeef says:

    and the world chanpionships

  14. Bust Jlaze says:

Nice to see Larry Hughes doing his thing…good point about him needing a point guard. Danny Ferry needs to wake up.

  15. Celts Fan says:

Sith, forget Rondo, make a play for JKidd. Oh wait, you have no tradeable assets. Maybe Randy Livingston then?

  16. Celts Fan says:

there are guys to be had, it’s just tough for the Cavs since you can’t really give up anything you have without hurting the team long-term for a short-term fix (Kidd) that may not even get you to the Conference Finals with the way Boston, Detroit, and Orlando have been playing (not as much lately with Orlando, but they’re still pretty scary in the Playoffs)

  17. Celts Fan says:

the only deal that MIGHT make sense is Gooden to the Sixers for Andre Miller’s 2 inch vertical, but do you really want to give up Gooden? Also, did Andre burn any bridges when he left the Cavs a few years ago, or is he still well-liked there? It’s also no guarantee Philly wants Gooden instead of keeping the rebuilding effort going with cheap contracts and really young guys, but that seems like the only possibility of a worthwhile PG trade for you (then again, after the Gasol trade, who knows. Maybe you could offer Memphis a LeBron jersey and cash for Kyle Lowry or Navarro)

  18. djKianoosh says:

Soopa, I’ve been sayin for years we should have an American vs World all star game. It would be fun as all hell!

check this possible list of candidates for the world (not in any order):
    Yao/Okur/Ilgauskas/Dalembert
    Dirk/Duncan/Kirilenko
    Gasol/Turkoglu/Deng
    Manu/Barbosa/Peja
    Nash/Parker

    Lots of great players there.

please Stern. call it what you want, even have the National Men’s team go up against the “rest of world” team, whatever, we’ll give you Duncan for those purposes.

  19. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

Yo can we put Aaron Brooks on that fastest list, I think he could possibly get em all.

Dang Dj that is a solid group.
Still I don’t think they could get: (Not in any order either)
    Kobe/James/ A.I./Garnett/Melo
    P-double/T-Mac/Shaq/Deron/Roy
    Wade/Shawn/Stat/B-Diddy/Cp3/
    Sheed/Chauncy/Rip/Camby/Ray/West

Still I agree that would be fun to watch I think USA would take out aggressions on them though.
A lot depends on who is coaching the squad to. If the USA has coach K …it’s a wrap.

Celts dang 16-0 is still nice. I feel you on being careful and not getting caught up on fool’s gold. I must admit I have been impressed by the bench as well for Boston. They are playing the rolls they are supposed to play. To me so much of Boston will really depend on Ray. We all know Ray can get in a “funk” sometimes and not hit anything. Boston is going to give Ray his shots, and if dude is not on it, I think other teams have a chance. If Ray is hittin though…it’s gone be real tough for other squads.

Kobe is getting road M-V-P chants….ridiculous! Kobe vs. James
I still got James ahead but dude better get in the playoffs first, and then make noise like he did last year second.
Dirk soooo shouldn’t have gotten that MVP.

  20. myrie says:

Interesting smack today. Rarely does DIME gives us quotes from a coach.StanVan G needs to find a way to.give the rock to Dwight Howard more. Most nights, he is Orlando’s advantage matchup.

Brendan Haywood had a doule-double.with 20/10? Wow. Who knew.

As for Milawukee ano Mo Williams….let’s just say Pat Riley ain’t crying that he ain’t get Mo.

I would support an Int’l AllStar game.

  21. Celts Fan says:

good call GEE, forgot Aaron Brooks…

you’re definitely right about Ray too. We can “replace” what KG gives us with bench guys like Powe and Big Baby who’ve stepped up huge in his absense (and I guess Scal starting and playing 5-10mpg so we don’t disrupt the bench bigs rotation), but to replace Ray is harder since we don’t have a ton of bench scoring as it is, and if you put Posey in the starting lineup, then it’s even less, and Tony Allen is defense and energy off the bench sometimes, but not a very effective starter (though the one I’d choose whenever Ray’s out, he’d just have to man up and play about 30-35 min. on that recovering knee. Damn, Ray CAN’T get hurt for a while like KG!)

  22. Bron42 says:

They would never have a nba vs usa game outside of the olympics. Mostly because the fact it would be looked at as a serious game meanwhile to nba guys allstar weekend is supposed to be a time to just chill. We can barely get stars to go for the olympics, u think their gonna bust their asses on their only time off IN-season? They have a better chance of doin the NBA vs AND1 game since it would be pretty much the same as a allstar game cept a bigger blowout in the 4th.

Stan van gundy may be right BUT never get on the bad side of ur star player lol. Hope his resume is laminated.

Celts, Mike conley jr actually isn’t that fast, he just has control. Hes kinda the opposite of TJ ford who is super fast but out of control.

DJ, No way dirk starts over duncan at the PF in that game if he plays for the international team. if anything they’d bench gasol and move dirk to SF so he can get dusted by lebron. and put duncan at pf.

  23. Celts Fan says:

fair enough Bron, just assumed he was based off what I remember from last year at OSU, the really high pick used on him, lack of jumper, and Olympic medal(s?) his dad has (nice genes)

  24. Celts Fan says:

Is it just me or is the term “international player” getting used pretty loosely in general lately? To call guys like Tim Duncan and Carlos Arroyo international players is pretty confusing. Both are from US-”owned” (not being insulting, just can’t think of a better term) territories where they get to vote for our President. Call me crazy, but if you get a vote in the US Presidential race and are considered an American citizen (albeit in an American territory and not a state) it seems like it’s not really international. Plus, didn’t Duncan play for Team USA a few years ago? It really couldn’t matter less, but am I the only one that notices that and is kinda confused?

  25. Bron42 says:

ya i hear ya, no big deal lol

and dime, what no love for the 6′8 high school girl dunkin on lil 5′8 girls? almost had a quad double, I say the mavs make a trade for her. she can skip goin to baylor and start over dampier

  26. djKianoosh says:

    bron, that’s cold! ouch!

and yes, int’l player is a loose term, so I wouldn’t mind giving team usa Duncan.. shoot, on the flip side, even Kobe might be considered int’l. he grew up in italy and might as well be… lol let me stop.. just kidding.

but duncan is listed as an int’l player on nba.com’s int’l player page… soooo..?

  27. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

    Controversy.

    1. Villa shouldn’t have had that foul call..although HE DID use his body to bump the dude. Still that should have been a no call to go into o.t. I think G-town still would have pulled it out, as Hibbert was pretty much having his way.

    2. Suprised no mention of it, but Rutgers really got it with no grease from the refs vs. Tenn. Again the girl DID FOUL the young lady from Tenn. but time was…well should have been…out. No ref. can even make a call with like 0.2 seconds. Tenn. got away with one.
Rutgers can’t catch a break. First they get called nappy headed hos and then get done by the refs. I like Rutgers coach Viv. she was on some, if this was the Tourney she would have lost her job about that mess. I don’t blame her.

LOl coaches should have challenge flags like they do in the NFL that they can use in the last 2 minutes of basketball games lol. I am being crazy with that one …but…hmmmmm?

  28. doc says:

The Usa take what they want we took Duncan and we played his damn team. If I remember he didn’t play against them. Shit we even took Hakeem. But I feel Van Gundy. Dwight need to man up and play ball. If you D up they’ll give you the ball. I love both they games but him and Bron are starting to smell they shit this year.

  29. Ian says:

    bron
    u r right
if that game happened that shit would be taken wayyy to seriously players might get injured in that shit
but i woulnd comñlain if the game happens

    celts fan
is rondo in all your top lists??
everytime there a question about whos the best about something u always have rondo there

  30. steve says:

speaking of American vs. The World…….why is it that when the NBA Champs are crowned, they label them the WORLD CHAMPS….Shouldn’t that belong to the Olympics or FIBA only? That would be like the Chinese Pro League or one of the Euro pro leagues claiming themselves as the WORLD CHAMPS.

  31. Celts Fan says:

GEE, they said on Sportscenter this morning that the clocks at Tennessee (I think it was in Tenn.) are linked to refs whistles and that the time-keeper is only used to adjust the clock whenever necessary. IF this is true (and I haven’t heard of it before, but it’s never been an issue that I know of, so who knows) then I guess they got it right…

Stringer was funny as hell with her, “If this was a tournament game, I might’ve lost my job!” line in the press conference though. Almost spit up my coffee laughing when I heard that one this morning.

  32. Celts Fan says:

Ian, Rondo is fast as hell. Watch him play. I’ve seen him, in person, keep up with, and sometimes run past Tony Parker, TJ Ford, and AI this year, so that’s why I put him in the discussion of fastest (and specifically mentioned he’s probably more toward the bottom of the upper echelon to avoid posts like yours.)

I’ve mentioned Rondo as a top 5 pg projecting to the future (which I don’t want to discuss again for at least a year, because all sides have said everything already, now it’s time to see if I’m an idiot or if I’m right) and that he’s one of the fastest guys in the league (which is one of the main reasons he ends up on my future top pg’s list.) Don’t act like I had him in my 1 on 1 list yesterday or something. That’s 2 lists Ian, and one is directly related to the other.

  33. Ian says:

    calm down
    im playing

but personally i think hes just ok and its gonna be an ok player

  34. Ian says:

    steve
well maybe if the spurs win again they can keep calling it the world champs
they have a player from every country

  35. Celts Fan says:

I won’t calm down Ian! Just an FYI, here’s the top pick for my other lists too:

    MVP: Rondo
    Most Improved: Rondo
    Rookie Game MVP: Rondo
    All NBA PG: Rondo
    All NBA Defensive PG: Rondo
    DPOY: Rondo

also, Rondo is the GOAT and is being black-balled by Nike, otherwise, there’d be the Air Rondo’s out and they’d be sick! MJ and LeBron are stealing Rajon’s shine!

    hahahahaha

  36. Celts Fan says:

can you guys tell I’m trying to do anything to procrastinate getting back to work?

  37. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

Celts. Even if the clocks are linked to the ref’s whistle I don’t think they still can make that call time wise.

I don’t know, seems like Rutgers gets from all directions lol.

Can you imagine next time they play Tenn. It will probably be a fight I will just call it now.

  38. Celts Fan says:

don’t disagree GEE, just repeating what I heard on Sportscenter, cuz it surprised me too. Rutgers does get it from all directions, including the jeweler, so I’m sure they’d keep everything tha’ts happened this past year, so long as they can keep that ring. It’s the price you pay to be the best (excluding that Imus BS, that’s just the price we all pay when we let retards on our airwaves)

  39. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

Thought I would post this from Gil. for everyone on Calderon’s sac! Again this ain’t GEE but i agree wit every word!
    http://my.nba.com/forum.jspa?forumID=400032200

On the East side, I don’t know if there were any big snubs. I mean, some people wanted Jose Calderon. Jose Calderon? Who? Come on man, this is All-Star, people. When I’ve seen some of the names that are being thrown around on the ticker as snubs, it’s killing me. I understand Calderon has the best assist-turnover ratio in the league, but you know what’s funny? All back-up point guards have the best assist-turnover ratios. Screw it, Kevin Ollie should be an All-Star then! For like five or six years, Ollie was No. 1 in assist-turnover ratio!

An All-Star is an All-Star! He’s playing at a high level. That means, if you take him off the team, that team should fall down if he’s that one guy. An All-Star means that he is dominating the game of basketball. It’s not even about numbers necessarily, it’s about dominating.

  40. Jackass says:

Yo you americans are sick!!! Last time I remember, team usa couldn’t even beat several national teams from europe and s.america. And now you are talking about playing with the World All Stars??? C’mon to reach that status and to play with that kind of team, you have to prove that you are worth something. you don’t just say let’s fight!!! and get a fight with Mayweather. You’ve gotta be at least De La Hoya to get a fight with the best. RIGHT NOW TEAM USA AIN’T NOTHING!!! I don’t care how good you think they are, I think you are watching too much freakin NBA TV!!! chill and look at your teams record. Until beijing 08, team USA ain’t worth a damn.

  41. Celts Fan says:

yup, you can claim superiority based on beating our C-team a few times, can’t you? The world will see soon enough that when we aren’t cocky as hell and just slapping a team together a month beforehand of our 2nd and 3rd tier stars, that we are still the best in the world and we’ll leave no doubt in Beijing. I hope you’re enjoying your “championship” while you can, cuz all you’ve done is not let a sleeping dog lie. To quote TO, “Getcha popcorn ready.”

  42. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

YO! TWO HILARIOUS STORIES FROM GIL.

    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2008/02/gilbert_shaves_down_there.html

When asked about the worst physical pain he’s ever experienced, Gil gives an answer, after the jump, that is possibly offensive and will almost definitely make you cringe:

“When I was new in the NBA the team veterans convinced me to shave, you know, down there, because they said the hair stinks. I used my girlfriend’s razor, which was rusty and gave me keloids. The doctor prescribed medicine to dab on, but I just poured it all over. Three days later I woke up screaming. The skin was burnt off my scrotum, down to my crack, everything — just raw flesh. I still had to run and play, so I used a numbing spray for a month until it healed. Now I use clippers.”

    http://my.nba.com/forum.jspa?forumID=400032200

I remember we were in L.A. and we were playing the Clippers and we were trying as a team to find stuff to try to cool the flesh down and we couldn’t find anything.

Everything hurt – putting tights on, no tights, jock straps – we tried everything and it didn’t work. So what I decided to do was after I put my compression shorts on, I taped them to my leg around my thigh and I just poured a whole bottle of baby powder in there.

Against L.A. I remember driving to the hole and got hit by Keyon Dooling and all you see is POOF, a cloud of smoke of baby powder. That’s what I’m saying, it’s funny now at 26-years old to laugh at it, but it hurt then.

My teammates used to be like, “Oh, there goes Puff the Magic Dragon.”

    Dude is a nut. Hilarious!

  43. Ian says:

    celts fan
somehow i dont think u r kiddin at all

  44. Celts Fan says:

GREAT STORY!!! I always loved Gil, but this is amazing even for him!

  45. Ian says:

    celts
what are u sayin the the us sent a C TEAM
    what?????
still it was the best team and
THE US WASNT PLAYIN THE WOLRD STARS IN THE SAME TEAM
they were playing normal teams and not the allstars

the us still lost with the best team by FARRRRRRRR
im not picking a team in that game but its gonna be close

    u werent playin vs
    duncan
    dirk
    parker
    manu
    nash
    ak
    in the same team
u lost to manu scola oberto nocioni pepe

comon its gonna be allstars vs allstars now
and u know everyone is gonna play their balls off

  46. Celts Fan says:

Come on Ian, I may be a bit of a homer, but I try to keep everything reasonable. Even the top 5 argument had a ton of caveats and “assuming he keeps working hard” and crap like that in it. We may have different opinions, but it’s not like I’m pimping Big Baby as Rookie of the Year or some shit.

  47. Celts Fan says:

No Ian, it was the best INDIVIDUALS and the worst TEAM. You can’t slap a team together 3 weeks beforehand of guys used to being “the man,” barely practice together, then expect it to work. That kind of arrogance is precisely why we lost. That crap is gone and now we have JKidd and Kobe (on top of some guys that can play more roles and better shooters.) The teams we were playing with had been playing together for more years than the US had months, of course they’re crisper and more familiar with each others’ games!

  48. K-Dizzle (checkin for Tim Donaghy at Georgetown & Tennesee) says:

    Gee

bad time for your boy, gil, to post that calderon hate cuz last night, he was the best point in the L. Spurs couldn’t do nuthin with him. Scored a gang o points in a row, threes, drives, pull-ups and set dudes up to bring the raps back. I don’t think there’s any doubt that he’s right behind kidd and billups as the next best point out east. But my problem is this,

“All back-up point guards have the best assist-turnover ratios. Screw it, Kevin Ollie should be an All-Star then! For like five or six years, Ollie was No. 1 in assist-turnover ratio”

WHAT? First of all - Kevin Ollie led the league ONCE, in 2002/03, averagin 3.5 assists and 4.0a/to barely ahead of white chocolate, the glove and stockton who were all around 8 apg. Billups got a couple years as well as Antonio Daniels and Terrell Brandon when he was killin. Calderon is averagin 8.9 apg and is almost at 6A/TO and how is he a backup?
Stupid article, insane comparison and just blatent with the false. I’m not even gonna get into his post bitchin bout the gasol trade. Everyone with a clue knows that the Griz are just havin a firesale and don’t give a damn about gettin any talent back. Heisley’s known for this shit. Ask Vancouver Griz fans. If u don’t think dude is an all-star, cool, but don’t bring false info to make the point.Check it before you post it.

    Dime
you need a video of the tenn-rutg last 0.2 so we can see the clock stall for a couple seconds.

  49. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

Dude I don’t need no stinkin article lol and I will bring a $#%#@&$^&# caption to post if I deem it necessary. I was just agreeing with dude. If you want me to apply myself and give you just GEE first hand, then i’m yo huckleberry.

First he was making a joke in his point about the whole Kevin Ollie ish so for you to even address that shows you miss that whole point.

    Second Gee

You gone site a game where they LOSS as yo reference to him being an excellent guard. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying he is not good. I can even give you your statement of him being behind Kidd and Chauncy (probably more behind than you thinking). They LOSS though, and it’s not like all this great guard play from him is making them win. When they do win it’s usually do to Bosh. And as much as San An, couldn’t deal with him, apparently Toronto couldn’t mess with Nobli. It’s not like Jose is even the one willing his team to win. In crunch time his own team don’t even look to him, they go to Bosh. So whoodey doo- he got snubbed, naw he is not deserving of it just yet. I aint saying he won’t be, but as of now Gil. was on point and you sound bitter and mad cause what he said was right. That 27 or so he scored last night, how bout we see that every game rather than 12 to 15 and how bout he start being the man to will his team to win. Then holla at me otherwise, check yaself before you post!

I ain’t even gone address that Grizz stuff, cause like I said you just mad anyway. Here you go, just for you ….JOSE IS NOT AN ALL-STAR!

  50. Celts Fan says:

    damn, get him GEE

  51. Davin says:

Pretty awful call? His jersey may have brushed against wallace, who only had time for a last second heave that is only made in a Lebron commerical. Instead, g’town gets bailed out with 0.1 on the clock, and reyonlds playing like monta gets overlooked. Philly will rise again, mark my words.

  52. Ian says:

    comon
    people calderon was a snub
and about that backup comment thats stupid u r comparing ato ratio but which one is avg 8 assists?

    celts fan
its a rondo opinion im not sayin u r a homer or calling u anything weird
    we just see dif players

the world vs the us thing im not gonna jump like someone did
but u cant say for sure that the us beats the world team either
its a close game not blowout like many americans think

  53. Celts Fan says:

I know Ian, just messing around.

I agree Calderon was a snub, I just think it’s hilarious when GEE gets all riled up…

  54. Ian says:

    from an espn chat

with arenas completely dissing jose calderon, do you see him putting up 30+ points or 20+ assists in the next couple weeks just to prove himself? i can’t wait for arenas to get back and have him play jose.

John Hollinger: Did anyone else see that Calderon scored 13 points on just four shots the other night? With 10 assists and just one turnover? People don’t seem to always get this, but if you put up numbers while hardly using any possessions, it also means there’s a ton left over for your teammates to score with.

John Hollinger: One other thing about Arenas — he made the point that a lot of crappy backup PGs have great assist-turnover ratios, and he’s right. The difference with Calderon is that he also has an insanely high assist-per-minute rate. In other words, he’s not just doing the risk-free backup PG thing — he’s creating shots but doing it with hardly any mistakes. That’s incredibly difficult.

    arenas a ballhog simple

  55. Ian says:

he did get kinda pissed with the calderon thing

  56. K-Dizzle says:

lol @ me being mad. all I said was the article was full of it. No facts, all opinion, all false.
I’m a LA fan and I’d take Calderon. What, the rockets wouldn’t? You gotta choose your stance cuz it’s everywhere. You want Calderon to score 27 every game, but you admit Bosh is the franchise. Calderon is a playmaker who can get buckets when needed. If he started jackin and ignorin the franchise, he’d be Mo Williams. Calderon shoulda been an all-star cuz he’s one of maybe 3 pure points out east, sets up his team, plays defense and hits shots and obviously doesn’t turn the ball over. Gil preachin about turnovers is like Eddy Curry givin a sermon on rebounding. Yeah, Jose did the right thing and gave it to Bosh, but sometimes when you as hot as he was last night, you gotta take the shot and let CB4 hit the glass. Shoot, dude is about 53% from the field. That’s insane for any guard. In closin, I expect 32 from Manu when Parker’s out and he gotta step up. I don’t expect 27 from Calderon. I expect 15, 10 maybe a couple steals.
You should be happier, brah. The Rockets look like they actually wanna make the playoffs now

  57. Austin Burton says:

@Davin — That was a foul; Stokes bumped Wallace. Now should it have been called at that point in the game? That’s the argument. As a G’town fan of course I’m not complaining about it. I will say that had Stokes bumped Wallace and forced him to step out of bounds and there wasn’t a call, giving ‘Nova the ball back and a chance to win, I would have been pissed. So I have no problem with the foul call.

  58. Ian says:

lol read the player they use as a comparison in the last line

  59. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

    Celts you crazy lol.

I ain’t riled. Just simply providing feedback lol. It’s funny though, people always bring out so much about Jose, but never address, him not carrying his team, him not being the one they look to in crunch time (if he is so great) and his team not winning.
So I am like ok sure he has great, and I do mean GREAT numbers but his team ain’t winning.

Lol this is the part where Jose doesn’t get any blame and they start giving losses to the other players.

Or is this the redundant part where they keep giving his numbers out again.

Better yet, lets do the mind ish and all you nice folks defending Jose tell why you “think” he got left off the All-Star squad then?

I’ll address this though. Sure Jose scores but he ain’t scoring a lot. I am thinking if you so efficient then why are you not dropping an average of 20-25. What? Isn’t he somewhere in 12-15 points?
As far as the passing. He is getting assist and that is great but so are other pg’s. His average of about 8 - 9 is great, still check his stats and you will find some games of 4 - 6 assist too. Just saying dude is right there at the verge of being great, but lets not just bestow him as already great and an All-Star. I will say dude makes wise decisions and he is excellent at not turning the ball over.
Still a really great player on the rise..I’ll give you that.
An All-Star at this time. Naw.

  60. Ian says:

    gee
    wtf
of course he gets 4-6 some nights
    and also 12-14 other
u add all those up and divided by the games and u get something called AVGERAGE
the kidd u all love isnt winning either cant score and loses a lot of balls
so i think that part of the argument u can just throw it out

  61. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

K-Dizz I am happy and I certainly would scoop him up to be on the Rockets with the quickness. He still ain’t no All-Star.

You said he can score buckets when needed. Um I think they have needed them a few times in losses. Where was ya boi at?

In all that you all list that Jose is doing, they still losing from time to time. Apparently they need more from him like buckets. Apparently others needed more for him to be an All-Star too.

    Dueces!

  62. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

Kidd almost has 100 triple doubles. He is in on that merit alone. How many trip-doubs Jose got? …..I’ll wait?

    Ok.

I got you on the average, but um there is another thing called consistency too.

LOL you all still won’t answer why you think they wouldn’t let him? Cause you knooooow the truth, you know you do lol.

  63. GEE...Now they want me to testify against Clemens too. says:

I got roll, you all been fun though.

    Deuces twice!

    Jose is not an All-Staaaarrrrr.

LoL frustrating to read that huh?
    lol

    PEAAAAAAAAACE!

  64. Ian says:

    what?
kidd has a 100 triple doubles
ok so wheres shaq in the game because he has over 20000 points make some sense gee

  65. Ian says:

better yet why isnt stockton in the game
all time leader in assists thats amazing right?

  66. Ian says:

    dont be mad gee
    just messin with u
    hehehe

  67. Stallion says:

As long as Captain Jack keeps wearing Jordan Spiz’ikes he’s bound to have plenty of big games :)

  68. Joe says:

The call at the end of the Nova-G-town game was absolutely correct. The kid with the ball was bumped with time remaining on the clock. If you want to be upset about it, get upset with the Nova players and coaches. Score and time remaining should be at the forefront of the minds of coaches and players. Get away from the ball handler! Make him launch a 3/4 court shot! Total brain fart by the Nova player, good call by the refs.

  69. Top Gun says:

Manu should really shave his head, that bald spot isn’t a good look. Stephen Jackson really surprised me this year, he went from being a jabroni bad ass wanna-be to a floor leader.
