French Jordan

Mickael Pietrus‘ nickname never caught on in the U.S. Back in his native France, they call him “French Jordan.” Well, his agent Bill McCandless believes that if he gets the playing time at the right position, he’ll get the shine he deserves.

From the San Francisco Chronicle

“We quietly requested a trade prior to the first date on which he could be traded this season, and we’ve repeated this request many times,” McCandless said. “There are several teams who would like to acquire Mike, and several offers have been made.”

“Mike has been asked to play out of position for all of this season,” McCandless added. “He does not want to play the 4 and the 5. Mike doesn’t want to be a corner spot-up shooter for whom no offensive plays are run. He simply feels he can contribute much more on both ends of the floor for another team. He truly hopes to be traded tomorrow.”

Don Nelson’s reaction to that last statement must have been priceless.

The French Jordan? Has Pietrus ever started at the 5? I can’t imagine even in Nelson’s system.

I thought this past summer was Pietrus’s reality check - when he didn’t get a sniff of interest as a free agent. He’s lucky to be in the league and needs to shut up and play.

Wrong! He’s NEVER been called the French Jordan here in France…it’s all started with a us scout who tried to “hype him up” in the draft report by saying that he could be the French Jordan…he’s never been called this way here.
