Still hope for Kidd? (Photo. Mannion)Wouldn’t you have liked to see the look on Jason Kidd’s face when he learned the trade sending him to Dallas was being shut down because of Devean George? We can imagine J-Kidd sitting there thinking he’s about to leave soul-sapping New Jersey for a legit shot at a ring and a fresh start with the Mavs, then he finds out it might not happen because George exercised the no-trade provision in his contract. Things were probably thrown … The trade, which last we hear isn’t completely dead, sounded kind of weird in the first place: Kidd and Malik Allen to Dallas for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Mo Ager, Devean George, two 1st-round picks and cash. But it was reported that the Nets would immediately buy out Stackhouse and he’d re-sign with the Mavs 30 days later. And from what we read and heard, a lot of Mavs fans didn’t like the move, saying Dallas was giving up too much to get Kidd. There was also a separate Nets/Mavs trade involving Antoine Wright and a 2nd-round pick that somehow had something to do with the Kidd deal … Of course George doesn’t wanna join the going-nowhere Nets when he could stay on a playoff team, so in a way you can’t blame him. But then who wants to be on a team where they’re not wanted? Depending on how the rest of the Mavs felt about the possibility of getting Kidd, how has Devean been received in the locker room? And was that feeling impacted at all when he went 0-for-11 in the Mavs’ win over Portland last night? The guy killed a trade and lowered his trade value all in one day … J-Kidd was inactive for the Nets’ game in Toronto, meaning Marcus Williams got the start. Williams put up 11 points, 5 assists and 4 turnovers in a loss, during which Darrell Armstrong actually made more of an impact (12 pts, 6 asts, 4 stls). Both NJ point guards got ripped up by Jose Calderon, who had 22 and 12 dimes, and there were way too many instances of Nets defenders standing there and watching Toronto score … How do you think LeBron felt when he heard Kidd was - and then wasn’t - going to Dallas? Was he still holding out hope that the Cavs would try to swoop in and get something done? He needs the help. ‘Bron dropped 39 points and 9 assists on the Spurs, but only one of his teammates cracked double-digit scoring. And that teammate, Larry Hughes (26 pts) had his output nullified by the fact that he got DESTROYED by Manu Ginobili: 46 points, 18 in the fourth, 8 threes and 15-of-20 from the field. It was surgical what Manu was doing, getting Hughes to bite on fakes before he even made them and sticking dagger after dagger in his eye … During a mini-explosion of Bruce Bowen corner jumpers (10 pts, 4-for-4 FGs), the Cavs announcers were talking about Bowen’s limited offense. But, said the play-by-play guy, “This is where he makes his money,” when Bruce settled in to guard LeBron on the other end. Before the period was put on that sentence, ‘Bron wetted a three in Bowen’s mug … Caron Butler’s officially out of the All-Star Game, and he’ll be replaced by Ray Allen. They just really don’t want Hedo Turkoglu involved in this thing, do they? … We love watching the Warriors, but they’ve got to play better defense. As great as Monta Ellis (37 pts, 9 rebs, 5 asts) and Baron Davis (27 pts, 13 asts) were against the Suns, GS almost gave the game away on the defensive end. Mis-playing the pick-and-roll over and over again led to a lot of Amare’s 29 points and Steve Nash’s 12 assists, and on one play in particular, put Phoenix in position to tie it with three seconds left. Then when the Suns had another shot to win it with 2.1 left, they ran the same inbounds play they always run in that situation — Leandro Barbosa inbounding to Amare, then coming around a Nash screen to get a three-point look from straightaway — and the Warriors still gave Barbosa a wide-open look. Fortunately for them he missed … Remember what we said about Grant Hill stepping right into Shawn Marion’s role? Hill went for 26 points and 15 boards. Although we can’t remember Matrix ever getting swatted by Austin Croshere at the rim … The Pistons won their 10th straight, disposing of the Pacers easily while five Pistons scored between 11 and 14 points. The Rockets won their 8th straight, knocking off the Kings on Steve Novak’s game-winning triple … Stan Van Gundy wants Dwight Howard to focus on defense and rebounding, so Dwight did just that against the Nuggets. He grabbed 24 boards - along with 23 points and 2 blocks - and basically shut down Marcus Camby. Dwight’s only human (really, he is), so we’re sure he didn’t take SVG’s public motivational tactic with a smile, but we don’t know why everyone was thinking Dwight would all of a sudden become disgruntled. We’ve hung with Dwight before, and he’s all about improving on the court and getting the job done; he’s not gonna lash out at his coach for simply addressing the issue … Brian “The Cookie Monster” Cook gave us even more evidence that he’s going to be the next Walter McCarty (or at least the next Donyell Marshall), dropping 18 points on 4 triples off the bench. Trust us, he’ll be in the League for a long time if he can keep doing that … You know that lack of depth everyone was worried about with the Celtics? It might become a factor after all. KG’s already out, then Big Baby and Brian Scalabrine went down with injuries against the Knicks yesterday and didn’t return. (And we thought Paul Pierce was gonna hurt something when Jamal Crawford left him frozen on a behind-the-back crossover.) All that, and Scot Pollard still couldn’t get any burn. Where’s Dino Radja when you need him? … Emeka Okafor had a monster line against the Hawks, posting 20 points, 21 boards and 5 blocks in an overtime win. Not the best game for Josh Smith, though, who fouled out and committed 5 turnovers in just 15 minutes of burn … Triple-double for Carlos Boozer, as he gave the Sonics 22 points, 11 boards and 10 assists. Booz also had 5 steals and generally ate the Sonics’ front count for dinner. Lamar Odom also had a trip-dub in Minnesota with 11 points, 16 boards and 10 assists … There’s two games on the NBA schedule tonight (Heat/Bulls, Suns/Mavs), but Thursday is the beginning of All-Star Weekend for the Dime crew, as we’ve relocated to New Orleans for the next few days. Keep checking back here throughout the weekend for all the games, practices, events and parties as they’re going on … We’re out like Caron …

I expect the mavs-nets trade will go through - Devean was asked about his block and he also said that staying in Dallas is not really an option for him anymore.
Lebron has to be pissed about this but you know I don’t think Kidd is the answer for the Mavs or the Cavs. It is weird that NJ was finaly starting to get some depth in the front court and now Kidd is leaving to a team with zero depth at any postion. You make the bed you lay in.
K-State lost by a lot to Texas Tech because of a really bad night by Beasley (6-20). I am not sure who was guarding him but I am sure some scouts raised their eyebrows at the poor game. Derrick Rose also had a crumy game last night…maybe everyone was distracted by the Kidd trade?

DJ Leon Smith says:
You can’t blame Devean too much for doing what he did, if he allows himself to be traded then it decreases how much he can be re-signed for in the offseason (something to do with his contract not being counted for a team going over the cap and a lot of confusing CBA/contract issues that’s too much to type here). But the trade really would mess up his money.

GEE...Devean George a famous Black man for Black History Month says:
First off I wanna send some Praise to D. George. He has balls. Now this leaves Kidd possibly open to other teams to try and get him (HELLO HOUSTON) and it still lets Dallas be Dallas, which they were pretty straight without Kidd.
Also praise to Steve N. for knocking that game winning three down for Houston, cause Ron Artest was having Rockets for lunch. Hmmm maybe they should trade for Ron Artest. I don’t know they should do something. 32-20 and 3 teams tied for the 8th spot in the west.
I really don’t like this. I am a Houston fan from jump street, but I love Denver as I was born in CO. and of course it’s just hard not to like B-Diddy and G.S. Why couldn’t the Mavs, N.O., and Utah just not make it this year. Dang.
You know if the Suns do get a fresh chip this year, that will be tight for Grant Hill considering all he has been through and still keeping his head on straight. He would be a winner in college and the L. That is tight. If anything I would like them to get 1 just for him. Outside of Grant, I hope they FAIIIILLLL!
I don’t think the Celeb. game is going to be good. Are there any celebs worth really watching. I heard Deion Sanders is going to play outside of him, I don’t want to see Master P. or Bow Wow.

Scot Pollard didn’t get any burn cuz he’s still recovering from whatever part of his vag he hurt this week and was in uniform to play according to Doc, “Only in case of emergency,” which apparently means if he’s the only guy over 6′5″ on the roster. Dime, if there’s any updates on Big Baby’s knee throughout the day, can you hook us up with them? That guy is vital to our bench. Also, Scal = addition by subtraction. He should take all the time he needs to recover from that groin.
perfect Isiah Thomas story that I had to share. During the game last night, the Knicks were in the process of trimming a 25 pt. lead down to about 9 in the late 3rd/early 4th and seemed to have all the momentum. Out of nowhere, he just gets T’d up for what seemed like him yelling at the refs for no good reason (they’d just scored to cut it to 9.) Within a matter of 30 seconds of game time, he picked up another T (after the Knicks had cut it down to 7 after a made tech FT then a Jamal Crawford 3.) They got it to 4 but you could tell those Ts killed their momentum and the run. It was completely confusing and unnecessary. Isiah Thomas and Chris Wallace still have jobs but Scott Skiles got canned after 1 bad month.
The NBA, where terrible coaches and GMs inexplicably keeping their jobs happens. Note to Grizzlies fans (if they exist) if you hear the words, “I bought the groceries, now I get to cook with them,” coming from Chris Wallace, just save yourself some time and drop your tickets

Mr Thomas wanted to hit the showers early. The C’s had no legitimate big and they were slicin the Knicks up. Tony Allen on one good leg was able to cram it off a putback. If I was on the Knicks I would have picked up a matching set of T’s and get a jump on the line at Sully’s tavern.

Can Dallas include anything besides George? Eddie Jones maybe? Can’t they sign someone and send him over, similar to what the Lakers did with McKie? If Cuban wants Kidd enough, I’m sure he’d be willing to throw another $2.5 Million (value of George’s contract) at someone to get this done.

Isiah is trying his best to get Mike Beasley…it is a tight race with the Heat and Grizz right now but if Isiah can consistently execute poor substitutions and get the wrong calls from the refs I think he can pull off the worst record in the league without making it too obvious.
The heat are going to have a touch time keeping the losing streak rolling with Wade and Marion. I am not sure how they can pull-off losses to some of the co-worst teams.
On the other hand, the Grizz seem to be perfectly positioned to lose every game they play.
It will be an exciting race to the lottery.

it’s not really a no trade clause. according to what they were saying on espnews last night, he has this deal where if he gets traded, he loses some eligibility for the larry bird exception (or something like that).. basically, if he gets traded, he won’t be able to make a lot of cash this summer in free agency. it’s a business move. good for him. this is why the players union of the NBA players is ten times better than their NFL counterpart. you think anybody in the NFL would have the balls to do this? hell naw! they’d get cut with a quickness. probably why you dont see that many trades in the NFL. in the NBA, the players run the league. might not like it, but that’s how it is.

the refs gave that game to the suns. What was up with that? Did you guys see when the ref inadvertantly kicked the ball out and gave the ball to GS. Plus some stupid foul calls. Plus that crowd at GS is craaaaaaazy! Like Sac-town back in the day.
Speaking of the kings, word on Ron Artest almost single handedly bringing the Kings back against the Rockets? The dude outscored the rockets by himself in the fourth quarter and actually gave them the lead before Novak(my fav white boy) hit that three. TMac was so getting on my nerves last night. Novak saved his butt by hitting that three.
In his interview, D. George said that “he’ll be the bad guy”. Almost like the players didnt like the trade either. But he did say he was doing what was best for himself per his agent.
Crazy how the Rockets are still in the 9th spot in the West but have a better record than all of the Eastern Conference apart from the Pistons and Celtics.

hatinonmanu says:
wow, manu scored 46 against that beast Larry Hughes, get him a crown! Jamal Crawford has scored 50 before, and he still sucks.
manu is still only a decent player, one good game where he gets extremely lucky/on fire (he isn’t going 15-20 again for a few years) against a defensive powerhouse like the Cavs doesn’t make him an AllStar, or anything more than a role player who stepped up his game for a game.
Remember last year, there was a tard that scored 7 straight baskets for 20 points in a highschool game. He got to meet the president (and commented on how stupid he was…this coming from a tard). He wrote a book, did interviews nationwide, etc etc. He is more of a star than manu. He is a better person than manu and he doesn’t flop and whine as much, even though he has autism.

Best crowd in the NBA has to be G.State’s hands down.
Glad to see other players getting Trip. Dubs other than Kidd more often now. For a minute it seemed like he was the only one who could and who was trying to get them.
Wasn’t it Magic that challenged Kobe to get a Trip. Dub. one time, because he was like yea you scoring and all but what about the other stuff? Course if memory serves correct Kobe did go and get one.
What is up with the West getting great players from the East. Shouldn’t the East be trying to trade off to pull more players from the West to bring some balance.

If that ansewr is no, then you gotta leave Manu out of that conversation too. I’m not even a big fan of Manu’s, but he’s damn good and not just a role player.

didn’t he go 10-15 for 31 points the last time they played against Cleveland? that’s pretty efficient.
A couple nights ago he shot 59% from the field.
In two games on this same road trip against Utah and Seattle he shot 56%.
In this month of February he’s been shooting 53% and 48% from threes.
oh but wait, let’s not let facts get in the way of a good argument. don’t even let me go back to his 77% shooting for the ENTIRE Olympics when Argentina won Gold. Or even the 04-05 playoffs when he was really killing it mostly as a starter.

The main reason manu gets hated is because his whining, bitching and flopping affect the game more than his playing does. Him being a pussy and a bitch almost completely invalidates any skills he might have, and the worst thing about it all is that people admire him and copy his bitchy style.
manu is like the Backstreet Boys. Vlade (New Kids on the Block) started a HORRIBLE trend that, although it has seen some success, NOBODY can stand or respect it (with exception of 12 year old girls). Like the Backstreet Boys, manu has had some undeniable success, he has had a “catchy song or two” and put up the numbers from time to time, but does that change that he’s a pussy ass bitch? Nope. I would love to see manu break out of the mold, become a man and grow a set, he definately does have the tools to be a pretty good player, I doubt it will happen though.
It’s manu’s fan base that is just retarded. There are comments all the time that manu is one of the top players in the nba. He isn’t, nor is he even close to being able to achive that. There is no way he could be the primary option on a team, and thrive…and the times this year that he has had Tim and Tony both out, he has ‘flopped’. It’s my opinion that you could put Noocioni or Delfino onto the Spurs and you would see the same production and results. That is why he is nothing but a roleplayer.

Tim:they should have been giving the kid minutes, He’s been nice since he was DESTROYING cats in the NBDL. They kinda toned down his game making him play big he wanted to play the 2 like when he was in the NBDL dunking on everybody, this will be interesting to see what happens when him and Stuckey get legit time.
Yeah I agree Celts I’m tired of working too. A poor man’s B-Easy come on Celts that’s out cold.

thanks YOUNGFED, that’s why I ask you Pistons stuff. Too funny that Sheed would be yelling at someone to get on the block. I like Amir though, seems to have a real nice combo 3/4 game that’s becoming the thing to do in the NBA when you don’t have that dominant back-to-the-basket 4 and you want to play the uptempo game. The infusion of young athleticism, talent, and youthful excuberance from he and Maxiell (compared to what seems like too complacent of an attitude from the vets occasionally) is a great fit for them and should help them turn that next page when Rasheed and McDeuss start to decline (which should be within the next 2-3 years.)

People who are huge fans of manu are just as bad as knicks fans. Hyperdelusional, usually the result of bad drugs, or too many really good drugs. They are always overhyping how good the object of their mancrushing is.

I wouldn’t take Manu or Finley for T-Mac. I don’t see where Manu could carry a team. Manu scored what 46 lol. That is cool and all but how many times has T-mac done that or been in that range, and that is playing half a season. LOL Manu is not someone you build your team around, and of course at this point neither is T-Mac. Still T-Mac has been and Manu prolly never will be someone you build a team around.

the rockets drive tmac themselves to san antonio without thinking about it
February 14th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
isotope says:
Manu plays hard every game. Flop or not, he’s playing and driving to the basket. Tracy is just too inconsistent for me. And he hogs the ball. Almost gave me heart attack watching last night’s game. The rockets doesnt need people to score 46. They need someone to hit the three when Yao gets double teamed. Someone like Finley. And they need a slasher and someone to freaking fun the fast break with Rafer.

GEE...Devean George a famous Black man for Black History Month says:
Tracy for both of them …possibly. Tracy for just Manu ..naw.
No what the Rockets need is a smart point who can hit the three consistently …although i have to admit Skip is getting better with the ball during this streak. Still I think the playoffs will eat Skip up!
Plain and simple is the Rockets need that old T-Mac who was scoring consistently and bringing it every night. Now dude is injured every other game.
Still you guys trying to compare a healthy Manu to a half a T-Mac. Get the @#$# out of dodge. Who wouldn’t want a healthy Manu, he is an awesome number 2 or 3 option. He knows his roll and plays it well.
Still Rockets wouldn’t make that trade. Cause Manu or Finley can’t carry no team. Tracy can, unfortunately the playoffs or his krypto.
Ian you and Iso enjoy wondering and dreaming, cause that ish ain’t gone happen and shouldn’t happen, hince it hasn’t happened.

What about trading packaging Tracy McGrady and other pieces to Chicago for Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng and Tyrus Thomas?
Or…moving McGrady (and other parts) to Indiana for Jamaal Tinsley and some other pieces?
Or finally….trading Tracy McGrady to Milwaukee for Micheal Redd?

Last one…
Houston Rockets trade Tracy McGrady to Philadelphia 76ers for Andre Iguadola and Reggie Evans??
February 14th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
hatinonmanu says:
Myrie,
No trade should ever start off like “Jamaal Tinsley…and pieces”, let alone a trade for TMac. The only comparable stat they have is games out due to injury. And after that, you suggest TMac for Redd straight up, that is like saying Jamaal is almost as good as Redd. That talk is that crazy NY fan drug abuse I was referring to in another post.
TMac for both manu and Finley wouldn’t work for one simple reason: economics. TMac sells jerseys and tickets, manu sells “I can’t believe it’s not butter” (check out his commertials, where it’s advertized that even the mighty manu can’t tell it’s not butter). Seriously, who wears a manu jersey? His fan base is more the type who would want his used jock more than his jersey.
From a skills perspective, if TMac were on the Spurs, they’d have won alot more championships than they have, and would win alot more in the future. As far as injuries go, TMac is like a lightning rod for bad injuries, but at least his injuries are real. manu jammed a finger on his offhand and was out for like 3 weeks. Kobe dislocated his finger on his shooting hand, almost having it ripped off, and he finished the game, and played the next game (not very good though). If manu had the history of double and triple teams and of being roughed up that TMac has had throughout his career, there is no doubt that manu would be DEAD, not just injured, but DEAD.

aint no excuse for wade turnovers. He just getting exposed because aint nobody drawing triple teams this year. He changed his game since shaq got there now he need to switch back. He came in passing and scoring when needed. Then he switched up and is a fuckin gunner. Manu good but yall do be overhyping him. He cant lead no team and he’s not a franchise player he is a great 2nd 3rd option.
February 14th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
isotope says:
lol. If manu was on the rockets he would not be the 1st option. Yao would be.
And manu is not equal to TMac. No. I dont think anyone is saying that. But Manu and Finley for TMac is a no brainer if the Spurs ever offer that. And remember it’d be Manu and Scola playing on the same squad. sigh. I can only dream.
February 14th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
djKianoosh says:
it’s always funny to jump here and get hatinonmanu riled up about manu. for the record, i personally never said manu was as good as tmac, that’s on somebody else. but first of all, the spurs would never make that offer anyway. tmac is hurt waaaaay too much. then, pop wouldn’t have anyone to boost his bench unit the way manu does.. now, he probably would be able to backup tony at pg during spurts, or run the offense in the 4th quarter as pop is known to let manu do. but i just think tmac would be too selfish to get duncan involved, just the same way that he seems not to get yao involved enough. it’s like there’s two teams in houston sometimes. granted i haven’t seen them the last couple weeks with their impressive run, so they may have worked that issue out.
still can’t believe spurs let scola go for nothing.

paupow says:
K-Dizzle - Oh come on now, J-Will isn’t a ballhandler?Wade averages close to 4 turnovers for his CAREER, it just so happens things are little tougher this year and he’s closing in on 5 turnovers a game… makes his assist to turnover ratio pretty horrendous. Turnovers derive naturally from his chaotic style of play - charging head first at the basket and attempting to split triple teams. Whichever way you put it, Monta Ellis is on fire right now..
