First Devean George invoked his no-trade clause and shut down the deal for Jason Kidd. Then Jerry Stackhouse ran his mouth and took himself out of contention when the League announced that he would not be allowed to return to Dallas this season if he were traded and then cut by the Nets.
But Hallelujah, Mark Cuban has side-stepped those obstacles by replacing Keith Van Horn for Stack/George, and the trade is back on track!
The Nets will ship Kidd with Malik Allen for Devin Harris, Maurice Ager, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell and Keith Van Horn. But one stipulation remains: just as Aaron McKie reported to Memphis to make himself available as part of the Gasol deal, Van Horn must do the same or the League will not allow the trade to go through.
From Marc Stein’s report on ESPN.com…
“[Joel] Litvin is one of the lawyers who will help NBA commissioner David Stern rule on this trade and touched on the case-by-case nature of these scenarios when he said Saturday, “If the guy gets there and 20 seconds later he gets cut and the guy is 55 years old, that’s not going to pass muster. If the guy played last year, reports [to his new team], and plays and practices [like McKie], that will. Somewhere inbetween is a line that I can’t define.”
After the East’s win last night, Kidd stopped to think about what life will be like in Dallas if Van Horn obliges and allows the deal to go through. It’s safe to say that he likes to way it looks.
“I look at myself as an easy fit no matter where it’s at,” Kidd said. “You don’t have to run plays for me. You don’t have to call my number. It’s just a matter of me getting guys the ball at the right time. That’s my game. It doesn’t change wherever I play it at. I’m not a guy who’s going to shoot lights out. But I want the ball down the stretch to make a play. I enjoy that.
“It’s not going to take long, if it [the trade] happens. I just want to fit in and be one of the pieces of the puzzle. With Dirk and Josh, it’s just a matter of them being ready to catch the ball and score.”
“Dallas gets better,” added Steve Nash. “Ultimately, everybody has to learn to deal with that.”

If I’m Keith Van Horn and somebody wants to pay me $4 mill to sit on the Nets bench for a couple months, I’m saying ok asap, like yesterday. It’s not like he has to play.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if he stays in medical retirement, he’ll get that money without having to sit on anyones bench.

Dallas is still giving up too much, but at least this one isn’t as bad. Sure will be interesting to see how it works out.

JOB33, you drank too much, no one mentioned kvh. kvh’s wife doesn’t even mention kvh.

Straight up, if he aint gotta play, then theres no shame to come out of retirement to sit on a bench for 2 months and get paid like $4 million, good God thats $2 million a month, roughly $500 000 a week !!
So Dallas now has :
JKidd
JTerry
JHoward
Dirk
Dampier
With Stack in 6th?
That’s pretty sick. . .

CDog says:
stupid shi+ for the Mavs to do. They have chemistry and Devin Harris and those 2 first rounders could get them something younger and better (Jose Calderon at least with half of that) and i dont think a 35 year old with bad knees can save the mavs from a title drought. Although Devuan George may be hated forever for blocking the trade, 10 years from now when Harris or whoever they traded for him are having a All Star career, he will be considered a hero. Jason Who? What was once Jkidd is now not child friendly. Avoid him.

CDog, no way the Raptors trade Calderon for Harris, Diop and some draft picks. Jose is staying where he’s at for the long term and it would take a knockout offer of way more than that to pry him away.

Lol Brown? Calderon is a player, no doubt he was underrated last year. But this Calderon love is getting out of hand. I think his name was mentioned in the “AllStar snubs” category. N*gga, please. The guy can ball, but let’s not get carried away here. If I were Toronto and that deal for Harris + draft pick (singular; and Diop or not - no difference here, really) was on the table, I’d jump at it.
