Ironically it was Bonzi Wells who said yesterday that he felt confident with the Rockets roster as is. “I feel good going into this last run with what we have against any team,” said Wells. “I can put our team against any team and feel we have a great chance. I’m excited to see how it ends up.” Well the Rockets must not have been quite as confident in him, as they packaged him along with Mike James to the Hornets in exchange for Bobby Jackson. The Rockets will also receive Hornets’ rookie Adam Haluska.
From today’s Houston Chronicle…
The key for the Rockets was to get Jackson while moving the last contract tied to the burdensome, long-term contracts they gave when rebuilding.
With Luther Head back from his groin injury, Wells’ playing time was expected to decrease in the backcourt while the emergence of rookies Luis Scola and Carl Landry has already reduced his minutes at power forward, where he often finished games early in the season. Wells’ playing time will now be spread among Head, Landry, Scola, Chuck Hayes and Steve Novak.
The deal is still pending League approval, and according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, it could end up being a three-team swap with Memphis. The Grizzlies could end up getting Marcus Vinicius from New Orleans.

I remember them Maloof boys offering Bonzi $35 million for 6yrs.
…Bonzi said no.
Look at him now…..

Prof. TX says:
I don’t like this deal. The Rockets already have far too many second-rate guards. Is Jackson any better than Mike James? Even if he is a small improvement, is it worth throwing in a tenacious post player who’s capable of 10 points and 10 rebounds on any given night? The Rockets have been about defense for the last few years, but keep playing these all-offense (and not great at it) finesse players instead. They better keep Battier and Hayes or nobody will be playing any D.
I hope they have another trade coming, this isn’t going to get them into a second round series.

GEE...I woke up this morning and pissed excellence says:
Myrie I remember that lol he should have took that for real. Prof. TX I will say that I am not the biggest fan of this either, because Bonzi seemed to be doing well and coming into his own. I am happy for him, that he is going to at least another playoff team, and may come out on the better end of the stick.
The good thing about Jackson is he is tested and can score and outside of injury is pretty ok.
Honestly I am just glad Houston has done something.
I am at peace.
LOL but could we not get Sam Cassell or Andre Miller or even Mike Miller.
Still I am at peace. If freaking Golden State and Denver will stop winning lol Houston will be even more ok. Boston has let me down in not beating Golden State or Denver. If I didn’t know any better, I would think Boston was trying to help keep Houston on the outside looking in. Houston is still prevailing though.
Trying to bring Clutch City back!

SWAT says:
I’m not sure how I feel about this trade…I loved Bobby jackson when he played for sac town but has he really done much in N.O.? Plus Bonzi was averaging a little under 10 pts a game and could fight us back in the game with his tenacity. I know it frees up room for us on the luxury tax and salary cap so I’m hoping that it will allow us to pick up someone else because I don’t think Bobby is the answer. Here’s to hoping that Bobby under Adelman will wake up again and to us beating the heat tonite to continue the win streak. CLUTCH CITY BABY!!

Myrie says:
..bah!
I (respectfully) hate clutch city!
‘94 was suppose to be the year my NYK won the chip. Everyone knew we were supposed to win that year with Jordan gone and Barkely aging in Phoenix.
Damn Rockets. How am I suppose to die in peace now?
Yeah…I respect those Rockets, but dammit I’m still bitter….

Willis says:
haha this is the second time they’ve been traded for each other.
this is also the second time in NBA history two players have been traded for each other twice, the other being Keith Van Horn and Tim Thomas if I remember correctly.
I think the first trade was Kings giving Ostertag and BoJax for Bonzi, and Memphis then dealt Tag back to the Jazz for someone. Forgot who.

Celts Fan says:
I hear ya Myrie. I’ll hate the Nets and JKidd forever thanks to them ending our run in ‘01 and sweeping us in the conf. semis the next year (I think, the ECF-out of nowhere year and year after) and Kidd calling us classless cuz we chanted wifebeater at him because he beat his wife (but we’re the classless ones…) and Kenyon Martin being at the Summer League the next year, getting booed, and holding up 4 fingers on one hand and 0 on the other (definitely shut the crowd up. that summer league is currently Vegas, was Boston then - HUGE upgrade now, i’m sure though we miss it around here. I saw LeBron front row, center court before he played a minute in the L. Very, very, very cool.) I have that same kind of hatred for the Yankees (especially Aaron Boone,) the Colts (even before last year cuz people wanted to put that choker Peyton Manning above Tom Brady when Manning hadn’t won crap and always went out much earlier than expected and Brady had 3 rings) and now the Giants (that one I will never get over. 4th and 13 and no FG??? come on Bill, you don’t need a tape for that one! Thanks again to our owner for the bulletin board material. Couldn’t wait 2 weeks to apply for the trademark on 19-0? Definitely got waaaaaay too high on themselves…)
anyway, sorry ’bout that tangent, but that’s the fun (or terrible, depending on what end you’re on) part of sports.
Don’t really get the trade too much other than Bonzi will probably be gone and must still be upset over the 2yr. 2M per deal after turning down the Sacramento deal. Perfect example of what Gil was saying when he ranted about Luol, BG, and Iguodala should’ve signed those extensions…

Man it was bad enuff that we had to fight for our Sports illustrated cover that year bcuz we beat you guys! I remember SI was hating something serious becuz of the beat down…oh well we got our cover and the chip! KISS THE RINGS!

Aside from Clutch city has anyone seen the spurs trade for Kurt Thomas? They traded Ellison and Brent Barry for dude. I don’t understandd this trade either.

GEE...If she got coot problems you better not mess with her says:
Yea I hate that for Brent cause he helped them out of some tight spots before. As they say its about bizness though.
I wanna know what all this Cleveland chatter is about. 3 is fast approaching.
February 21st, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Prof. TX says:
The Spurs trade is all about office connections. Sam Presti works in Seattle but is still loyal to San Antonio, so he gave them a gift. It’s like McHale giving Garnett to the Celtics or Jerry West advising that the Grizzlies give Gasol to the Lakers.
It seems like too many trades lately are all about who your friends are.
February 21st, 2008 at 2:56 pm
SWAT says:
But this trade to me hurts the spurs. Brent is a better shooter and ellison hustles more than thomas. It may have been the spurs hooking up seattle. However, I do not think it is any where near the garnett or gasol trade, in terms of one sided deals.
February 21st, 2008 at 3:43 pm
GEE...If she got coot problems you better not mess with her says:
Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden to Chicago,
Ben Wallace and Joe Smith to Cleveland.
The Cavs’ Ira Newble, Donyell Marshall and Adrian Griffin to Seattle for Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West.
Supposedly.
February 21st, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Myrie says:
Is this 3sum deal official?
I’m not sure it helps any of the teams involved. If the trade goes thru, consider the following:
* Who starts at center for the Bulls?
* What do they do with a trio of Drew Gooden, Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah?
* Does adding Larry Hughes mean Ben Gordon is offical out of Chicago?
* How does Joe Smith and Ben Wallace help the Cavs?
* Are the Cavs now officially the worst ft shooting team with Ben Wallace?
* Ira Newble, Donyell Marshall and Adrian Griffin to the Seattle Sonics?….WHAT THE HELL ARE THE SONICS DOING?

That read is wack they not telling you nothing that you don’t already know. Slam is wack for trying to even give that like it’s breaking info.
Gerald Green gets to dunk in red socks now.
Again Mike James could have worked in Houston.

Celts Fan says:
agreed, didn’t get the SA trade either.
for the millionth time, McHale got the best haul he could get for KG. He got 3 good to great prospects (it’s only this year people realized how bad Gerald Green really is, Big Al is legit, and Gomes is a very solid role player) a wildcard with potential (Telfair) over $10M in cap space coming off the books (Ratliff’s deal) and 2 #1 picks including their own for this year back (which they gave up in the Ricky Davis trade I think, unprotected this year, so A TOP 10 PICK) That’s exactly what you’re looking for when trading a superstar and going into rebuilding mode.
February 21st, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Celts Fan says:
just to clarify:
good prospects (at the time, we can update that to piss-poor for Gerald): Gomes, Gerald
great prospect: Big Al
KG would’ve fetched MUCH more had he been traded a few years ago when he should’ve been, but oh well. At the time, that was the best they could get. Still infinitely better than what was traded for Pau.
Gerald to Houston may be a good thing. Going home could get his career back on track. I’m rooting for the kid, but it’s not looking so great…
