Got to lol at Houston and Cleveland pulling off last minute trades that really probably won’t have significant impacts like they hope. Still like you all said.
They tried. This has been one of the better trading months. It was fun. Now on with the show.

I think this makes the Cavs a lot better. Wallace and Joe Smith are more productive than Drew Gooden. And they still have Big Z and Varejao. Thats a better front line than the Celtics and maybe as good as the Pistons. Add a better point although not a true one in Delonte West than the Cavs have had. Also add the shooting of Wally and I think the Cavs definitely improved.

Not significant upgrade for either team. I guess Cleveland gets a more consistent shooter than Hughes, but lose Gooden’s mid-range game for the zero offense of Big Ben. Maybe that extra D will make up for it, but Ben has seemed not like himself as of late.
Oh yeah, and Donyell will propel the Sonics into the playoffs for sure

Seriously, I can honestly picture Morey in some weird elaborate lair, laughing like Dr. Evil, saying ,”My plan is almost complete!!! muaa haha haha. I will aquire every guard in the NBA! Then I will hold the league ransom for $1 Billion Dollars!!! Muaa Hahahahaa!!!”
I think he is really trying to do this.
Why not go get Mugsy out of retirement and bring him to the Rockets too.
So what is left now free agents?
Any good 4’s or 5’s in free agency?
I can picture other GM’s sitting in a room laughing at the Rockets and Cavs. GM’s. Rolling all on the floor, holding their stomachs.

I am not quite sure how any of the teams benefit from this deal. This looks like a deal being done just for the sake.
Two of the GMs involved (John Paxson in Chi and Danny Ferry in Clev) both are trying to save their jobs.
How does this trade make Seattle better? How does it make Chicago better? and how does it really make Cleveland any better?

Other trades finalized: Detroit acquires Juan Dixon and cash considerations from Toronto in exchange for Primoz Brezec.
Houston acquires Gerald Green from Minnesota in exchange for Kirk Snyder, a second-round pick in 2010 and cash considerations.

I think Cleveland just got 4 really good role players. That’s not a diss, that’s just what they are and what they needed. It’s perfect for them. Delonte and Joe Smith are sleepers in this trade. They will fill their roles very well. I think they might expect too much from Benny Wallace and Wally World, but then again they really don’t need too much from those guys. Just boards and blocks from benny, and how hard would it be to lock down one side while Z locks down the other side?
Seattle did the smart thing too. They just need to figure out if they want to make a real run next year or wait for the year after.
Don’t know what Chicago’s doing.

This is definitely an upgrade.
Larry Hughes was the Cleveland version of Kwame. And even though Wallace isn’t a scorer that Gooden is, he’ll undoubtedly improve their team D and rebounding. And Delonte is more than a decent back-up PG.
If LeBron can turn it up like he did in last year’s playoffs, I think we may see the Cavs topple the Cs or the Pistons and get to the finals again..

Hell Joe Smith is pretty much as productive as Gooden by himself.

But his article was secretive. He didn’t name names nor teams.
And at last we find out….this big secret was not going public with the trade of Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden to pick up Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Wally Scerzbiak and Delonte West. That was the big secrecy?
Gimme a break. At least get a prime all star in the deal to keep it hush hush…

Back-court should be OK but outside of Lebron the fron-court does not make sense to me.
Wallace can’t play PF (no shot)…but it is hard to imagine him getting paid $14 mill to come off the bench…maybe big Z is the PF? But then what about Varejo and Smith?
The bulls are now a complete mess…they are going to suck.
Gerald Green deserves a move - and nice that he is going home…maybe it will motivate him.

most games i watched smith was option 2 (if not 1 sometimes) on offense. in cleveland, hes not going to get that many touches and with wallace/varejao/Z down low his rebounding will likely decrease as well.
yeah…chicago was that bad down low where joe smith was our best player some nights.

I know the Rockets trade for Gerald Green doesn’t do anything for them this year but I like it in the long run. Gerald green has the potential to at the very least be a good role player. The Rockets needed more athleticism at the 2/3 spot and green is mad athletic. Besides playing in front of your home crowd can have a huge impact on a players work ethic. Kirk Snyder was bogus anyway. He thinks he’s better than he is.

Chicagos your squad? That’s my squad too. I can’t argue with that. Looks like thy’re just going to unload and rebuild. I’m interested in seeing how they handle gordon and deng in the off season. I don’t even care about the Cavs really. I just don’t like the Celtics ( i hate all Boston sports team) or Pistons (back from the Bad Boys days when they used to beat up on MJ and the Bulls) so I want to see the Cavs knock them out. It’s all for none in the end as somebody in the West is going to win the chip anyway.

- adrian griffin cant call anymore stupid team meetings
gordon totally has an inflated sense of his self-worth…is he worth how much he’s been asking- F@#$ no. any team that wants to pay that much for an undersized 2 guard with questionable shot selection can have him. besides, thabo has been on a tear as of late (not sure how he’s affected by the addition of Hughes)

They should have shopped him for something more. Hell yeah 72-10 still stands. I popped champagne last night like mercury morris and the 72′ dolphins when the pats lost in the super bowl.

Chicago’s my team, too, and I don’t really like where they’re headed right now.
Perfect example of why teams should take risks: for the past couple years, the Bulls were the team with the most trade assets, and were a team with a defineable lack - post scorer. Pau Gasol was openly available. Not only did the Bulls not get a guy who (surprise surprise) is suddenly rejuvenated for another team, but also failed to do anything with their trade assets. Fast forward to this season, where a half dozen teams have made bold moves, just about all of them to their benefit.
The Cavs definitely got better with this deal. I like Gooden, but I like Varejao, too. Now the Cavs can platoon Z with Varejao (finesse and size with hustle) and Ben with Smith (defense with offense). The only player in that frontcourt with any REAL deficiencies is Ben Wallace, offensively. Plus, they got a legitimate shooter in Wally Szceerczerbiak (I seriously do not know how to spell that name). I’m also a fan of Delonte West, who is a borderline starter at PG; at the very least, there won’t be any drop off after Booby leaves the game.
I’m not going to say this makes them better than the Celtics, but in my mind, puts them on par with the Pistons and ahead of the Magic.
The Bulls? I don’t know. They’re not going to start Gordon at PG, Kobeef, I don’t think. He’s shown throughout his NBA career that A.) he’s more effective off the bench and that B.) he’s best when he’s a straight gunner. Beyond that, Hinrich is quality, just not this season - just like the rest of the Bulls.
I like their new frontcourt, but the center position is a joke now. Maybe they’ll try to run more, because Joakim Noah isn’t going to stop anyone in the middle, and Hughes/Gordon in the backcourt is just inviting the league to penetrate easily to posterize Noah.
