Hide your eyes. (Photo. Chenoa Maxwell)Detroit is not the team you want on your schedule when you’re still trying to figure out your own identity. The new-look Suns got waxed by the Pistons at home, getting worked in every facet of the game, even in transition. True, the Suns are still adjusting to life with Shaq and without Shawn Marion, but Sunday’s indication is that a Finals matchup between these two would be ugly for Steve Nash and crew … For one, Phoenix has the same problem that Boston often has with the Pistons: their point guard is physically overmatched by Chauncey Billups. Defensively, Nash was little more than a visual obstacle for Chauncey (14 pts, 11 asts) more than an actual one. When the Pistons were turning the screws in during the third quarter, Billups simply shoved Nash to the ground with a forearm one time before whipping a pass to Rasheed (22 pts) underneath for a dunk. Even when Billups was out, Nash was getting bullied by Rodney Stuckey. That’s going to be a huge problem whenever the Suns run across a team with two good guards. Even if you wanted to put Raja Bell on someone like, say, Baron Davis, what do you do with Nash? Put him on Monta Ellis and he gives up 40 … Shaq (7 pts, 11 rebs) clobbered Amir Johnson in the first half, earning a Flagrant-1, but color analyst Jeff Van Gundy wanted a Flagrant-2. How much has the game changed since JVG had hair? Had it been the Isiah/Dumars Pistons against the Chambers/KJ Suns, that would have been nothing more than a regular foul and no one would have argued against it. (OK, we’re just assuming Van Gundy had hair back in ‘88) … Did you see when Rasheed hit a turnaround fadeaway over Amare (wired for sound) and both D’Antoni and assistant Alvin Gentry hopped off the bench on the next dead ball to coax Amare and tell him there was no way anybody on the planet could’ve guarded that shot? Whether that’s true or not, you get the feeling that’s how Phoenix’s coaches treat Amare all the time — which may explain his terrible defense. We could see them telling him the same thing when he gets beasted in the post by Mehmet Okur … Van Gundy arguing McLovin’s case for an Oscar was hilarious … It’s hard to judge since they were playing the Grizzlies and they were at home, but the Cavs looked good with their new acquisitions. Ben Wallace had 12 points, 10 boards and 1 block while starting at the four; Joe Smith scored 14 off the bench; Delonte had 5 points, 6 dimes and 3 steals starting at the point; and Wally scored 10 off the bench. And LeBron added 25, 11 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, plus one incredible play where he drove past Rudy Gay and in mid-air went up-and-under Hakim Warrick before finishing with a dunk. You had to see it; anyone else in the League — Kobe, Vince, even younger MJ — finishes that play with a layup … That was nice of Wallace to take #4 and let Sasha Pavlovic keep #3. But if the Cavs all of a sudden go into a slump, don’t be shocked when Ben’s back wearing #3 and Sasha is folded up in a locker with a sock stuffed in his mouth … And we don’t wanna say Ben looks old, but sitting next to LeBron on the bench when the Cavs had it all wrapped up, he looked like he set picks for Austin Carr in college … Twelve straight wins and counting for the Rockets, who took out the Bulls on national TV. T-Mac (24 pts) led a balanced Houston attack that saw the first seven guys in the rotation each score in double figures … What’s up with KG finding a 7-foot, White, cross-conference nemesis every year? When he was in Minnesota, Garnett had an ongoing beef with Charlotte’s Jake Voskuhl. So far this year, KG has been picking on Joel Przybilla. The last time the Celtics and Blazers played those two got into it, with KG seen on camera screaming something to the effect of, “Come on mother&$*#@&! Yeah! YEAH! YEEEEEAH!” at Joel. Last night it was more of the same — Przybilla picked up a tech early after a spat with Garnett, and late in the first half KG got tangled up with LaMarcus Aldridge (who was trying not to laugh at whatever Garnett was saying), then glared over at Przybilla afterwards like he wanted to fight him in the parking lot … Portland played out of their minds in the first half, but the third quarter was a disaster. Boston calmly picked them apart, Brandon Roy had to leave after tweaking his ankle, and the C’s had the lead running away by the end of the quarter. Paul Pierce ended up with 30 in the win … Spotted on the Portland bench: Darius Miles. No wonder they have Greg Oden sitting in the stands when he shows up at games … The Blazers announcers calling Steve Blake “Blakey” is kind of annoying after the first three times … Portland’s color guy: “Garnett gets a little nervous when he shoots at the end of games.” … Isiah and his neon pink tie got booed during intros in Toronto while Isiah tried not to laugh. It must have felt like home. But what do the Raps fans have against Zeke? He drafted well for them, and they’ve moved on to become a playoff team since he’s left. Let it go. That’s like Cavs fans booing John Lucas … The Raptors took care of business this time against the Knicks, which they couldn’t do the other night at MSG. One difference? Andrea Bargnani, who played 15 ineffective minutes when we saw him a few days ago, dropped 25 on the Knicks yesterday. With Eddy Curry unable (or unwilling) to step out on Bargs and defend the long jumper, he was open all day. And Zach Randolph, who gave Chris Bosh the business the other night, was 2-for-13 from the field this time … E-City has wings tatted on his back. Angel, or chicken? You decide … Two questions: Is this real or a joke? (The famous one at the Wizards game a few years back where the guy dressed up as the mascot is apparently a hoax.) And if it is real, why is T-Mac laughing at the poor guy? One more reminder for the fellas why you should at least know for sure that the girl’s gonna say “Yes,” ESPECIALLY if you’re trying to propose in public … Crazy stat line for J-Kidd against the Wolves: 12 points, 7 boards, 4 steals, 17 assists. Whatever the negatives of bringing in Kidd might be, the Mavs scorers can’t be complaining too much … We’re out like Curry guarding Bargnani …

Kobe could have made the same play after all dude is a Dunk contest winner but that dunk by Lebron was awsome but it was against Memphis so who cares. The Suns might not be as good as I thought but it’s still early. Also that Turn around jumper Sheed is unstoppable when he’s on but he still needs to hit the block more.
Question of the day…Has Tiger surpassed Jordan in greatness? Let me know what ya’ll think I say Yes but basketball is much more physically demanding so that plays a factor.

It’s difficult arguing about the greatness of Jordan and Tiger because golf is an individual sports and Basketball is not.One thing that favors Tiger however is that he was winning since he came into the league whereas Jordan had to wait for his supporting cast and coach to finally attain greatness.
For me Roger Federer is the most dominant player in his respective sports. No one has dominated his sport as much as Roger has and I dare say not even Tiger.

Worst trades in the NBA……what do you think?
6.) 2001 Rockets (Richard Jeff, for Nets-Eddy Griffin)
5.) 2000 Pistons -Grant Hill for Orlando-Ben Wallace
4.) Lakers trade involving Paul Gausol for Kwame (Wow)
3.) Caron Butler-Lakers for Kwame Brown (Wow)
2.)1998-Mavericks- Tractor Traylor to the Bucks for Dirk (WOW)
1.) Hornets-Kobe for Lakers-Divac (Worst trade EVER)
The lakers are the true hustlers of the league with exception of the Caron Butler mistake but even that worked out being that the got Gausol for Kwame.
Let me know if you have any sugestions for worst trade ever.

On the Tiger vs. Jordan question:
Jordan was the man who made careers like tiger’s possible. Jordan was the first athlete who (with significant help from nike) made athletes into mass marketing machines. Tiger is amazing but you can never bypass the man who changed the game. Also, this gets us to a whole other debate about how difficult it is to succeed in basketball vs. golf. The reality is that there are not many superstar athletes in golf. Imagine if Kobe had picked golf? Basketball (and soccer) are in a completely different stratosphere in terms of competition.
The Suns must be doing some soul searching today. Shaq looked like the player who Miami traded last night. If that is truly who he has become the Suns made a colossal misatke and will not get out of the West.

The Mavs only deserve three lines TOTAL for beatin on the Wolves and Grizzlies. I don’t hear nobody cryin when they got spanked by N’awlins. I’m not convinced at all. Get back to me when Kidd tears up a team with a elite point. Thank goodness my Lakeshow ain’t trade for him. Lamar and Farmar are rollin and we woulda had to give them both up for Kidd.
Dime
I don’t think anybody coulda guarded that baseline fadeaway that Sheed put on Amare. A 7 footer with that release point, on fire, up 20. What’d yall expect them to say? I thought they were being real. Ain’t no guardin that. You just gotta hope he misses. I don’t ever remember anyone ever botherin or blockin Sheed’s shot.Once again, when dude sees a challenge, he puts the focus on. Goes from 5-10 from deep in the previous game to 1-2 against Phoenix and some low post dominance offensively and defensively. If I’m an elite post player gettin clippings, I don’t wanna see Sheed in the playoffs.
Houston’s impressin me right now, but I’m kinda holdin my breath for the next T-Mac injury, but I hope dude stays healthy

Tiger vs MJ. You cant ignore the fact that Tiger looks nothing like the past great golfers. Dude was hyped and has backed it up. Basketball is a more popular sport and MJ was not as reserved as Tiger is. So it looks like MJ wins that. I, however, think Tiger’s dominance is out of MJs league. Ferderer’s as well. Youngfed - I always look at the “hopeless factor” for that question…meaning to what degree did opponents start the contest feeling hopless against their opponent.
I’d give tiger the edge there. Jordan was great but other teams came close to beating them and believed they could beat them. I’d actually say the Kobe-Shaq era Lakers had a greater “hopeless factor” than the Jordan era Bulls. Shaq and Kobe destroyed the rest of the league when they were winning…and the other teams knew it was coming and knew there was nothing they could do. In the playoffs most teams faced Kobe & Shaq with a goal of not getting swept.

They are what the records say they are. It’s not like they don’t play all the same teams eventually, give or take a few games against +/- teams. So if the Spurs have a better record, I’d go with them, since the same guys that are on a 12 game winning streak are the ones that were 12-14 at some point. I like the Rockets and want them to go far in the playoffs, but it’s going to be tough…
Ha, Billups goes 5-15 with 14 points (44 fg% and 17.5 ppg this season) and somehow, Nash did a…BAD job defending him? Didn’t catch the game, so I don’t know who was sticking him, but if I’m the Suns, I’m not afraid of Chauncey, Dime.

That is all I have to say on that.
Ummm I am really wondering if this whole Shaq thing with Phoenix is going to work out in the long run. Against top teams they are really struggling. I mean sure they are just getting together and all. Still I have to think, that we are still seeing a close to what they will be, even though they will get better.
I have a feeling as if this is ultimately not going to work, in regards to finals or a trophy.
I don’t see no team at all beating the Lakers in a 7 game series. Sure they might get like 2, but that’s about it.
Only thing that can stop the Lakers is injury to Pau or Kobe.
Detroit has to many weapons of mass destruction for Boston, so i don’t see Boston beating them. Cleveland will have the best chance there, because LeBron is just……heroic-like come playoff time and now he has Cleveland 2.5 and a quarter the upgrade.
NY is just a mess. Some team really should have been trying to get Crawford.
How bout David Lee, a really good player to have coming off the bench. I like him, he hustles.
One has to really be pissed and hurt to win a lot of games and still not make the playoffs, but could have made the playoffs in the other conference. I feel for the 1 or 2 teams that have winning records in the west and still don’t make it. Plus you are out of contention for a top 5 -10 draft pick.
Hard life.

Tyson might be my favorite athlete ever, but Ali would probably beat him. Mike had problems with — or at least didn’t consistently dominate — taller heavyweights (Lennox Lewis, Buster Douglas, Kevin McBride, Razor Ruddock, Tony Tucker, Boncecrusher Smith, Mitch Green) or people who could withstand his initial flurry without cowering in fear. Ali fits both those bills.

first thing to get it out of the way dominant is not the best but wilt is by far the most dominant basketball player ever
wilt played against all time greats in centers unlike shaq that dominated the centerless era in the nba
u mentioned just like tiger
the thing is that tigers opponents are pretty good but tiger makes them look that way

golf is all technique, you dont really have to be athletic to do it. Thats like sayin elite ping pong players are athletes when its all technique. and to say ben wallace doesnt have talent is kinda a cheap shot when the guy has abused people on each level. you make it like hes donelly harvey.
were never gonna end this argument cuz there are VERY few cases where there are a bunch of elite level athletes.
Roy Jones jr was the top boxer of his time, but who was he fighting? so does that suddenly mean he sucked as a boxer? just like his song says “people say i aint fight no body, i just make them look like nobodies” you say tiger makes them look like they suck? then ok, take tiger out the picture? there still isnt a Dominant golfer who would jump into the void, cuz their all pretty average outside of him, so he is playin no bodies except maybe phil so sucks almost every other event
Tyson didn’t fight anyone his WHOLE CAREER and the closest was a over the hill hollyfield who beat him twice.
Ali at least went against the top guys of his time.

Ali had Frazier and Foreman that were competing for being the best. There are still some people who think Frazier was better. I wouldnt consider that dominance.
Shaq did not dominate Ewing, Hakeem, or Robinson. Even though they were much older. If anything, Hakeem was the dominant center of the 90s. Not Shaq. And i really wouldnt say Shaq is dominating DH and Yao. Shaq was doing his thing between Hakeem/DRob/Ewing and DH/Yao. After Yao, dude has just been injured (or overweight) too much. Amare is a PF not a center.
Tiger is playing Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia, and Mickelson. Those guys are probably top 20 ever.

To many if’s toooo many if’s. The world may never know, so put this with the tootsie pop. This will go on for days depended upon your thought in your allowance of your observation.
Tyson, Ali, Wilt, Russell, M.J., Kobe and Tiger …The list will go on.
It would be different if we said, ok the clear cut criteria for being the most dominant ever was whoever had the most championships in their sport. Someone might say no, it’s has to be who played multiple positions in their sport. Someone else is going to throw time periods in there. So I guess the question has to either be rephrased or something cause at this point we here all day with no clear cut def. on what all goes into a person being the “most dominant”.

skurv says:
Heading into Monday’s game with Atlanta, San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili has been on a tear. Ginobili, over his last five games, has now scored 172 points, while making 55 of 86 field-goal attempts (64 percent). Only one NBA player since the year 2000 has scored as many points with as high a shooting percentage over any five-game span — Shaquille O’Neal. With the Lakers in March 2002, O’Neal had a five-game stretch in which he scored 177 points while shooting 69.5 percent from the floor. That’s it.
By the way, prior to Shaq, you have to go back to 1996 to find the last such instance of a player scoring and shooting as well as Ginobili over a period of five games. (Hakeem Olajuwon had 172 points and a 65 percent shooting stretch over a five-game span late in the 1995-96 season.)

I’d have to say MJ in the new era and Bill Russell in the old era. Tiger is the shit but to me hes more like Bobby Fisher. Golf like Chess is a game more than a sport. Strategy wins out. Skill too but Tiger can play 30 games in a day without breaking a sweat. I cant call that a athlete. Shit he can play the same game when he’s 75. And T-Mac and Yao are on their annual winning streak. Dosent mean they wont get abused in round 1.

…and Babe ruth was pitching against the other teams in these same games (and he did pretty well - including 13 scoreless innings in a single 14 inning WORLD SERIES game).
Imagine A-Rod or Bonds also pitching against these teams with NO DAYS OFF for rest.
babe Ruth pitched EVERY DAY and then kicked some ass with the bat. Must have been the whiskey, cigars and women that helped him do what he do

I can’t even front Manu is doing his thing. Could Manu do this with no Duncan or Parker? You know if he was the 1st option, well lets just say the only option?
Pau Gasol reminds me of a tall Manu.

K-Dizzle says:
How come y’all talk about the competition with some sports but no all?
Yeah, Babe Ruth dominated. That’s what happens when the best players aren’t allowed to play and are tearin it up in the Negro Leagues and overseas.
A.B.- Ruth’s the name that comes to mind when people talk baseball but tell me who he was strikin out and who he was crackin these homeruns off.How many gold gloves does he have? Don’t think it was Satchel Paige. It’s historical relevance or symbolic, but not all-time dominance. It’s like sayin Bob Cousy was the best point guard ever without lookin at the circumstance.
Didn’t Barry get 4 MVP’s before he started juicin?
One more thing, in 3 years, we won’t be havin this convo cuz Tiger’s gonna put everyone 6 feet deep. Dude’s the first golfer to treat his sport like athletics, working out and eatin right. You think golf ain’t a sport, you gotta give your head a shake. Yeah, you ain’t runnin or jumpin but I don’t know many dudes that can make 50-60 foot putts to win tournaments when EVERYBODY is gunnin for you. No teammates in golf, it’s all on you. Now that’s pressure. Right now, Tiger’s right up on the sports world in mental toughness, along with my man Kobe lol

Austin Burton says:
All I’m saying about Babe Ruth is that he’s the biggest name in baseball history. Not the best player, not the most accomplished, simply the most famous name. People think baseball, they think Babe Ruth. He was God Almighty to an entire generation (or more) of fans.
I give Tiger all the respect in the world, but golf is almost not a sport to me. It’s an activity that requires some level of physical ability. It’s more of a sport than auto racing or darts or pool, but less of a sport than track or basketball or football.
