LeBron (Photo. Mannion)Moving on with the first round (check out the Atlantic and Pacific divisions), it’s on to the Central. If you’ve missed it so far, here are the rules: Straight 1-on-1, make it-take it, games to 11, all hypothetical. The six division winners will advance to the finals, with two of them getting a bye. (Just like the NFL playoffs.) Vote in the comments section to determine the first-round winners:
(1) LeBron James vs. (16) Ben Wallace
(8) Danny Granger vs. (9) Ben Gordon
(5) Michael Redd vs. (12) Mo Williams
(4) Rasheed Wallace vs. (13) Andrew Bogut
(6) Jermaine O’Neal vs. (11) Zydrunas Ilgauskas

G says:
I think most of the favorites come out of this one.
James
Granger - close tho Gordon is a killer I just dont think he can get a stop against Granger
Redd - also closer than would seem, size could play a factor
Sheed
O’Neal - provided hes not on crutches
Rip - hardest one to call Id say. Tinsley IS 1 on 1 but somehow i just dont see him taking it
Prince - Close but I give this one to the better D
Billups - PG 101 now in session
February 27th, 2008 at 10:20 am
dwight and chauncey conversation says:
LBJ - dominance
Granger - size advantage
Redd - better arsenal plus size
Sheed - cant stop the turn around fadeaway J
Tinsley- they dont call him the destroyer for nuthin
Deng - power advantage though they match up okay
Mr. Big shot - he’s gonna torch captain kirk
February 27th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Mike says:
LeBron - no contest
Ben Gordon - When he is on he is unstoppable. I’m going to say that he goes on one of his tears and whens this match-up. Could go either way.
Michael Redd - He has the better shot. Plus he would be motivated to show Mo who the top Buck is.
Sheed - Bogut is good and all, but if you believe Barkley, Sheed could be the best player if he gave it his all.
Big Z - Jermaine O’Neal has been relevant for two years now.
Rip - Tinsley would end up make some sort of stupid turnover and lose the game.
Prince - Deng is overrated. Prince is also overrated, but not as much.
Billups - Kirk Hinrich is pretty bad. He wouldn’t show up in this match.

Gareth says:
Lebron, Gordon, Wallace, Sheed, Z, Rip, Tay, Chauncey. Deng has a midrange game that is suited for Prince to lock down. Prince on the other hand can shoot the 3, post, and everything in between.

Willis says:
Bron - every day, week, any other measurement of time
Granger - Gordon can’t guard him for the same reasons Monta can’t guard Kmart.
Redd - Mo is 6′4″ and Mike is more like 6′5″ but he doesn’t even need to go inside the 3 pt line. And Mo won’t. Easy win for Redd.
Sheed - Even when Sheed would rather do something else he is better than Bogut.
Big Z - JOneal kinda sucks these days
Tinsley - Rip needs screens to score
Prince - Probably the most even. But Deng would get shut down Id think and he isn’t capable of doing the same, but if he waits long enough prince will shut himself down.
Chauncey - school time Kirk

Nothing to do with this but I didn’t know that Bad Santa from And 1 use to play with Georgetown. Somewhere I missed him. They showed him last night playing and I thought that was interesting.
Ok Bron beats them all in this.

GEE... let the finger waving commence! says:
Yea Dag. It just made it more for me that some, very few, of the And 1 dudes could actually make it in the L. Sure they might be on the bench for a minute but compared to a lot of these cats, they bring in for 4 minutes a night, I think they could produce. Mainly guard wise, cause their big men or not tall enough.
Anyway I thought it was interesting like I said.
I would love for DIME to do a 1 on 1 of old vs. new.
Like MJ of the past vs. Kobe now??? I don’t necessarily think you can say MJ is just a clear favorite.

Big V says:
LBJ over Wallace (no explanation necessary)
Granger over Gordon (Too big for Gordon to stop and has enough skill to score)
Mo over Redd (I might be in the minority here, but I think Mo’s got more ways to score than Redd and he’s more of a one-on-one player)
Sheed over Bogut (Sheed’s got post moves and can stroke it, I don’t think Bogut can deal with him)
J.O over Z (Only if he’s healthy, but this is a close one)
Tinsley over Rip (They don’t call him the Bodysnatcher for nothing)
Prince over Deng (By a HAIR, these two are soooo evenly matched, I give a very very slight edge in defense to TP)
Chauncey over Kirk (Chauncey’s too skilled and will outmuscle Kirk although Kirk would make it competitive)

Check that “Bodysnatcher” comment on Tinsley. I meant the “Abuser”.

Lebron - No need to explain
BG - NY bias
Mo - this is a toss up
Sheed - he’s too versatile for Bogut
JO - Big Z is just too slow
Tinsley - Didn’t get the name The Abuser for nothing
Luol - this would be a great game, slight edge to Luol
Chauncey - again no need to explain

TG says:
James - In a rout
Gordon - In a close match. Granger will have as much trouble staying in front of BG as Gordon would have defending the bigger player. And BG is more likely to heat it up in a hurry
Redd - More versatile and a better pure shooter than MO
R. Wallace - Bogut can’t guard ‘Sheed on the perimeter
O’Neal - although Jermaine may re-injure himself and have to withdraw from the rest of the tourney
Hamilton - Rip will make Tinsley dizzy. Besides, Tinsley will probably pull up injured during this match.
Prince - In a close match; but Tayshaun is better defensively
Billups - but in a much closer contest than people expect; Hinrich has always done a very good job on Billups in real games (one reason why Bulls are 3-0 vs. DET this season). I wouldn’t be stunned if Hinrich actually pulled this out — “Mr. Big Shot” is just as streaky a shooter as Kirk, and Hinrich is probably slightly quicker, although Chauncey is much stronger.

(1) LeBron James vs. (16) Ben Wallace……Lets go out on a limb and take Bron in a squeaker.
(8) Danny Granger vs. (9) Ben Gordon…..Good battle, Granger has height and D, BG has quickness and can catch fire….I will have to go with BG
(5) Michael Redd vs. (12) Mo Williams….Redd, height and shot should be able to counter Mo’s quicks
(4) Rasheed Wallace vs. (13) Andrew Bogut…Who cares…I will take Rashweed, just cuz I have to name someone
(6) Jermaine O’Neal vs. (11) Zydrunas Ilgauskas….Whichever one doesnt get injured first! JO should take this if he stays healthy long enough
(3) Rip Hamilton vs. (14) Jamaal Tinsley….ooooh, this would be good..Is it Tinsley or his alter ego Mel Mel the Destroyer? I will tab Richard for the W
(7) Tayshaun Prince vs. (10) Luol Deng…..Good battle, I would have to toss the coin….Lets pick Prince in a 1 point game.
(2) Chauncey Billups vs. (15) Kirk Hinrich….Billups
