History lesson for some, trip down memory lane for others. We don’t have to tell you how good James Worthy was. And how many people can not only say they played with Jordan, Magic and Kareem, but also say they made those guys better ballplayers? Another question: Is there anyone in the League today who compares favorably with Worthy?

Hard to compare anyone with Worthy really. His skills set was so unique to his size (6′9) and his position. It’s hard to even have a guess. Perhaps Jamison?

I still got my Worthy jersey fron 93 and the truth is nobody today compares favorably to Big Game and I’m not even being homeristic, I just can’t think of a single player with the same skills - midrange, post-up spin moves, run the floor that fast at 6′9 with a jumper and defended

IMO, I would say Lamar Odom. They both are somewhat slashers, but can creat off the dribble when needed. Also they both are long, and use their length and quickness to extend past the defense. For example, both Lamar and Worthy have that one handed scoop shot going through the lane, or that little jumphook in the middle of the lane off the post. Their post moves are a lot similar. What do you guys think?

Well, Worthy actually made his layups and went up strong. Lamar likes to take layups that somehow never seem to go in.

My main man!
I recently got married and my wife surprised me with a personalized video msg from big game james. how many of the 50 greatest players would do that for a brother who lives way out in toronto? truly a class act.
as for comparisons, there really is no other. no one had his combination of length, speed, quickness, wirey strength, post moves and ability to finish with both hands. not to say there weren’t better players, but that combo made him so fun to watch. when dennis rodman was asked who was the toughest player he had to defend, he said it was james. sean elliot said the same thing.
and he was also an underrated defender. because of magic’s inability to effectively defend quicker wing players, it was james who got the assignment. during those championship runs he would have to guard the likes of drexler, dale ellis, tom chambers, joe dumars and of course larry bird. and he did it all while magic and the captain got all the shine.
james truly deserves a lot more love than what he’s been getting. but the funny thing is, i’m sure he’s totally cool with it.
thanks dime for posting this up.
