Interesting trade for all teams, and even more interesting when we look at the fantasy implications. Here we go. Here is who the deal effects and how you should react to it. Read quickly, and then make your pick ups.
Delonte West - He is going to start for the Cavs at the point. Maybe not right from day 1, but most likely by day 3 or 4. When he had the keys in Boston he put up very strong percentage numbers and did enough of everything to warrant a roster spot and occasionally a 4th guard spot. He is 100% worthy of a pick up.
Joakim Noah - With Wallace gone, and nothing big coming back in return, Noah becomes the chief benefactor. Look for double/doubles on the regular. Pick him up.
Tyrus Thomas - I think Drew Gooden will be the guy in Chicago and Thomas will be the spark off the bench. That being said, Thomas is going to play 20 minutes per. If he performs, the Bulls would rather let him develop and raise his minutes to 30. I wouldn’t grab him unless you have a little extra room.
Drew Gooden - He’s going play 30 minutes in Chicago and I don’t see his value being anything more or less than it was in Cleveland unless Tyrus Thomas explodes and/or the Bulls fully commit to the youth movement. Both of those variables are possible, but I think Gooden will get the first shot.
Aaron Gray - There was about 20 minutes where Gray had some value. He’ll get an opportunity again. In reality though, he’s a back up center in the NBA and shouldn’t have real value.
Ben Wallace - This would be a whole lot better for Wallace if Joe Smith wasn’t also involved. Even so though, the Cavs don’t have the type of front court talent that the Bulls had so Wallace is going to play, and he’ll probably play the 4 and back up the 5. The hope is that he’ll be re-energized in Cleveland. I think his value will increase but probably not dramatically.
Joe Smith - His value is probably going to take a hit from the trade. Smith was a very pleasant surprise on Chicago and probably doing more, and doing it more consistently, than anyone on the Bulls. The Bulls needed Smith’s scoring. The Cavs really don’t. His value will take a little bit of a hit, but he should still be watch carefully to see how his minutes shake out in Cleveland. If he puts up Gooden-like numbers he’s worth owning.
Big Z - At least you know that Ben Wallace isn’t going to take any points away from Ilgauskas. Big Z’s minutes will probably go down a bit, as well his boards and blocks.
Larry Hughes - Good for the Cavs for finding a taker. I know Hughes is tempting to fantasy owners because of his occasional great game and his two years ago dominant season, but I can’t imagine Hughes finding his shooting touch on Chicago. The Bulls were desperate for someone who could create his own shot though, and Hughes is that guy. He’s worth owning and is a definite wait and see before you start him.
Wally Szczerbiak - Welcome back to fantasy rosters. LeBron should set up Wally World for more open shots than Wally has seen in a long time. The Cavs need Wally to score in Cleveland. Pick him up if you need points and threes.
Jeff Green - No Wally means more minutes for Green. It won’t be consistent, but the kid can rebound and score. He’s worth being put on a watch list at the very least, and picked up if you have a deep league or a flexible spot.
Earl Watson/Luke Ridnour - Has this situation really changed with Delonte West leaving town? Nope. It’s a pick ‘em.

Duhon or Gibson might be in front of Delonte on the PG rotation.
If the bulls run with Gordon and Hughes at the 2/3 and Deng and Thomas at the 3/4 they should at least be fun to watch….but where does this leave Heinrich? Either Gordon or heinrich gets traded before the draft. My Guess is Heinrich…maybe they move Ben to PG..I think he could pull it off and Gordon and Hughes are a deadly backcourt.
