Fantasy All-Stars – Guards

The Fantasy All-Stars are a little different than the real All-Stars. To be a Fantasy All-Star, you need to dominate above your draft position. In other words, you need to exceed expectations. Here are the Fantasy All-Star guards.

Shooting Guards

Kobe Bryant – He’s so good it’s crazy. And really, nobody knew exactly how he’d come out this season after a summer of demanding a trade on every radio show he could find.

Rudy Gay – I was wrong. There I said it. I was not a Rudy Gay fan, but I can recognize when I’m wrong. Rudy is having an outstanding season, averaging 20 per game, shooting 47% from the field and grabbing over 6 boards per game. He also has 81 threes and has proven that he is the best player on the Grizzlies.

Manu Ginobili – He might be one of everyone’s least favorite players, but he is very, very good. My complaint with Manu has always been that he doesn’t do it every night. That’s just not true this season. Even thought he’s only playing 30 minutes per game, he is so efficient with his minutes. He has scored in double digits in every game but 2. The only negative is that his shooting percentage has dipped to just under 44%.

Allen Iverson – I’m pretty sure AI is never going to slow down. Remember when a question mark about Iverson’s fantasy game was his shooting percentage? He’s shooting 45.3% from the field. Add that to 27 points and over 2 steals per game and the Answer is having an absurd season.

Rip Hamilton – I really like what Rip’s done for fantasy teams. You draft him to score at a high percentage and he has done just that and then some. 19 points, 50% from the field, 81.5% from the line, 40+ threes, 4 boards, 3 assists, and over 1 steal per game.

Brandon Roy – I almost snubbed him. The truth is that Roy makes list this for as much as the fact that he’s been healthy than his numbers are extremely good. Roy’s played in 45 games, averaging 19+, shooting 46% from the field, 78.5% from the line, draining one 3 per game, dishing out 5.6 assists, grabbing 4.5 boards per game, and also getting a steal a game. That’s pretty legit across the board.

Snubs: Kevin Martin (injury factor), J-Rich, Joe Johnson (Joe, percentages???), and Ray Allen.

Point Guards

Steve Nash – Evidently, this won’t be the season where Nash’s numbers begin to fall off. His minutes are somewhat down (34 per game), which is a huge positive for the second half of the fantasy season, and his production is higher than ever. 17 points, 12 assists, 51% from the field, 90% from the line, 90 threes already, and 3.5 boards. WOW.

Chris Paul – He’s having an amazing season. He’s shooting 48% from the field, averaging almost 21 points and 11 assists, 4 boards, and he has even hit 44 threes. Incredible. He’ll get real MVP consideration.

Baron Davis –
All you need to know about Baron is that he played 47 games in the first half of the season. You knew his numbers would be there (and they are – 22 points, 8 assists, over 100 threes at the break, and over 2 steals per game), but the question mark was whether the health would be there.

Jose Calderon – Obviously, TJ Ford’s misfortune has greatly enhanced Calderon’s playing time and productivity, but Calderon has been more than just a team contributor, he’s been a breakout fantasy star. Besides averaging almost 9 dimes per game, Calderon is averaging one three and one steal per game, and outstanding percentages. Keep in mind, Ford will be back the second half of the season and Calderon’s production will probably dip down to a third or fourth guard.

Deron Williams – Deron Williams is shooting 51% from the field. That’s absurd. He’s scoring 19 per game, dropping 9.5 dimes, and grabbing about 3 boards. He has 41 threes, which is actually less than CP. He’s sort of a turnover machine with over 3 per game.

Snubs: Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups. Devin Harris, Rajon Rondo, Beno Udrih, and Stephon Marbury… just kidding.

Leaving Kidd off is a mistake. Thats saying that you would trade Kidd for Calderon. Im out like dudes averaging 11, 8, 10 being snubbed

  2. Sam Boobie says:

Uh, OK. Whoever wrote this obviously doesn’t play fantasy basketball. If exceeding expectations is your metric, then Hedo Turkoglu has to be at the top of any of these lists. Get it straight, dummy.

  3. nick says:

turk is a forward, this is a guards list

  4. Prof. TX says:

No advice on the risks and rewards of T-Mac or Arenas?
Both will be big questions come draft night of next year.

  5. Cha-Ching says:

kidd isn’t being snubbed. He’s shooting less than 40% from the field and doesn’t hit 3’s at a high percentage

  6. Sam Boobie says:

Turk plays shooting guard on my team, dumbass.

  7. Joseph says:

Only Nash could play less minutes and up his stats…

  8. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Turk’s a forward on my list. That’ll be out Monday. I’m a Kidd fan, but he certinally hasn’t exceeded expectation this season. T-Mac is always a risk. I think Gilbert will be fine for next year, but we’ll have a better idea after we see how he comes back this season.
