Fantasy Implications of the Gasol Trade

Th Fantasy Doctor is on it … here are the fantasy winners of the trade…

Rudy Gay - The biggest winner wasn’t even involved in the deal. The big fantasy winner from this whole thing is Rudy Gay (or should I say Rudy Gay owners). Gay’s numbers without Gasol have been filthy and the team has clearly decided who they are going to build their future around. Expect big, big things from Rudy the rest of the way.

Pau Gasol - The best thing about this deal for Gasol is that he’ll be rejuvenated. He’ll most likely all of a sudden be healthier than he has been and will play a little more consistently. His scoring numbers haven’t been outstanding anyway and I fully expect his rebounding and blocked shots numbers to go up. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but I actually expect this to be a win for Gasol owners.

Kwame - He’ll play in Memphis. The Grizzlies aren’t in love with Darko and they just shipped off Stro Show for Jason Collins. Collins has about 6 points in the last three seasons, though he is a solid defensive presence. I don’t think Kwame is worth owning right now, but he’ll probably love being out of the LA spotlight. Keep an eye on him.

Darko – Darko killed when Gasol was out the other night. It was by far his best performance of the season. Although the Grizzlies did bring in two NBA centers in Kwame and Collins, this move clearly makes the team worse and they need to let Darko develop as much as possible.

    Darko!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

  2. GEE...from post to post baby? says:

Doc you didn’t spare no time putting out the fantasy notes did you lol?

  3. sonicsaint says:

What about Odom? Any thoughts on him?

  4. Myrie says:

Jason Collins has 6pts in the last 3 seasons? I demand a recount. No way has he scored that many baskets….LOL

Darko killed?….Is that a misprint? what was it 14pts,16rebs? That is your definition of killing it? Hmmm…then what do you call what his former teammate Dwight Howard been doing?….Manslaughter?

I’m not really into fantasy like that, but Rudy Gay’s shooting percentage is probably going to plummet without a solid inside presence.

Kwame…Kwame…Kwame….this guy is so bad that he ruined the name Kwame in the American language. Think about it…what would you do/say if someone in your family wanted to name their next born son Kwame? Seriously.

  5. Ray says:

don’t forget; Kobe’s TO’s will go down and his assists up due to the (addition by) subtraction of Kwame Brown!

  6. Dummy says:

Let’s also not forget that Hakim Warrick might be starting as opposed to Kwame who has an expiring contract. I don’t think Odom’s value drops as another big to replace the loss of Bynum only helps Odom excel at what he is best at. Totally agree with Myrie that Gay is not going as much of a winner as you think.

Is it just me, or is there some kind of flu going thru sports GM’s of late, with the lopsided Santana and Gasol trades that just went through. GM’s should be subjected to some sort of test just like NFL draft participants go through the Wonderlic…

  7. Davros says:

Is Tyrus Thomas the next coming of Stromile Swift?

  8. Dave says:

How about Mike Conley and the other guards? I doubt Iavaroni opts for a half court game dependent on Milicic. Could this become Phoenix/Golden State style hoops?

  9. Stallion says:

Actually, Kwame is a name that is given for the day one was born (Kwame=Saturday). Though he might have ruined it for anyone born on a Saturday as well I suppose.

  10. The Fantasy Doctor says:

I’m not a Warrick fan, but he’ll get a look. Darko also had 5 blocks. 16 boards and 5 blocks? That’s killing.

  11. Bring on the Celtics says:

you forgot about warrick . . . btw . . BRING ON THE F-IN Celtics . . . Lakers are going wipe the floor with the Celtics

  12. dwight and chauncey conversation says:

    how bout mike miller?

  13. kobeef says:

Kwame…I would be surprised if he played much for the Griz. They have no reason to play him and millions of reasons to play Milicic.

Crittenton will back up Gay and Miller at the SG position and will probably start to see some PT.

  14. AT2 says:

hey doc, is this trade okay?

mine: chauncey billups and one of my bench (gomes, marvin willaism, bargnani, or zydrunas) for deron williams.

  15. AT2 says:

scratch that. billups and Big Z for hakim warrick and Deron

  16. The Fantasy Doctor says:

I probably would not make that deal.

  17. Prof. TX says:

Yes, Tyrus Thomas is the next Stromile Swift. Aside fromt the weird first names and alliterative last names, they are two power forwards who were a little over-hyped coming out of LSU. Both can run and dunk, and play some sporadic defense, but neither is too good at the strategic aspects of the game. They put up a nice line now and then, but will routinely frustrate their owners.
I’ve owned Swift too often, won’t be doing that again… until I’m tempted next year by his cheap price for some rebounds and blocks..

  18. sonicsaint says:

Hey Doc, my Boozer and Baron Davis for Pau Gasol and D-Will? H2H keeper league and I’m not really weak in any areas, although I am missing Bynum’s blocks…

  19. VERTMAN says:

Darko just needs lots of tick, he’s a player. Just needs to stay out of foul trouble. And who gets the most out of this is just not Rudy Gay, but Mike badass Miller & Juan Carlos.
