Kobe Can’t Beat Me

It doesn’t matter that Rip Hamilton is under the weather. Even though he missed the Pistons‘ shootaround yesterday morning because of food poisoning, he’s still slinging around plenty of trash talk.

“I know for a fact Kobe can’t beat me in a shootout, so that’s one down,” said Rip. “I just gotta figure out a way to beat the other guys.”

The usually soft-spoken Hamilton has been conditioning his mouth in the week’s leading up to the shoot-out. Over the weekend, he jawed with Rasheed Wallace before going rack-to-rack around the three-point line.

“I will not lose a shooting contest to a big man!” said Hamilton.

    I am glad he is talking, you have to talk sometimes to let people know. Of course if Kobe beats him it will just be funny.

    Does Rip realize that he has to shoot from beyond the 3 point arc in this contest?

    He is a career 34% from 3, which is a long way below Stojakovic and Kapono who are at 40% and 46% respectively.

    I know Rip is a shooter, but I have never really considered him a 3 point shooter – most of his shots are inside the arc.

    I think Peja will take it. He seems to be getting his groove back and has the best looking shot of the bunch.

    he’s just playing around…but as far as Rip not being a 3-point shooter…his CAREER numbers ain’t that good, but he’s improved DRASTICALLY the past 2 years. Peep the Need4Sheed video for proof…and that’s why he got the invite to participate in the contest in the first place. He’s a good 3 point shooter.

    People have to realise Kobe takes threes when he’s not even open and still drains it. Most of the competitors only attempt three when they’re wide open, especially Rip and Kapono. Kobe is gonna surprise people. I still say Kapono will win it.

    Kobe and Rip are cool. But I don’t think you wanna get Kobe amped for this. He took it easy in that skills competition. If you give Kobe and Rip 10 shots I choose Rip. If you give them 15 to 30 shots I go with Kobe. They have a video of Rip practicing the 3pt contest, he hit every shoot. Rip just preform and don’t get Mamba hyped up before Sunday. Kobe always put up big numbers against the Pistons.
