Pau and the Triangle
SportsHubLA’s Roland Lazenby got up with Tex Winter to for an interesting piece on how Pau Gasol (who is reportedly starting at center tonight) will fit into the Lakers’ triangle offense.
The second half of the article focuses on Lamar Odom, Winters’ criticism of him, and the “cruel trick” God played on Kwame Brown:
Winter does fear that Odom may be the next on the trading block if he doesn’t begin to play up to his vast potential on a consistent basis. “Odom, I don’t know what’s wrong with him,” Winter said. “He can’t seem to find his way. He’s been with us a long time. He’s been awfully good at times. It’s really hard to figure out why he hasn’t played better this season.”
In some ways, Odom may benefit most from Gasol’s presence. With less of a scoring burden on him, Odom may be able to focus better on rebounding and pushing the ball on the break. That stands to reason, although Winter wouldn’t confirm such a notion, saying instead that Jackson will have to wait and see how the team grows with the move. Winter did guess that Jackson would miss Brown. “Phil sort of liked the challenge of seeing what he could do to help Kwame be effective,” Winter observed, adding that God had played a cruel trick on Brown, giving him an impressive body but withholding key elements that would make the former number 1 overall pick an NBA star.

Maybe his dad dropped him (Kwame) on his head. It’d explain a lot of mental things and genetically prove why he has such awful hands.
and I’ll gladly take the “cruel trick” of God making me a bad NBA player so long as it comes with the same loaded contracts that bitch has been getting.

Interesting observation – I know a lot of people say that Kwame has bad hands but that can’t be everyting. The kid has a prototype body for a powerforward with quickness and massive strenght – I always wondered why he could not seem to put it all together.

strong body, weak mind. you can lift to strengthen the body, there’s no exercise to increase mental strength. Dude’s soft as a grape on the inside…

I think the cruel trick is referring to the fact that while he may be 7 feet tall and built like a prototypical forward, he has some of the smallest hands you’ll ever see in the NBA. It really is a cruel trick for any basketball player.
