Raptor Science
The Raptors‘ minor move yesterday of sending Juan Dixon to Detroit for Primoz Brezec didn’t make many waves, especially with 11-teams deals going down at the same time. But Toronto fans should know that this move, along with not pulling the trigger on any larger moves just for the sake of being part of Deadline Day, are great (non) moves by GM Bryan Colangelo.

i didnt know that brezec had an expiring contract and as a raptor fan, I’m still happy with this deal, I wanted the raps to pick up another big body, i would have prefered an athletic big to contract rasho and Bargnani, but ill take this

I had a discussion with one of my friends a few weeks ago about how many expiring contracts the Raps have next year, which can be used to land an impact player in a trade or use as cap room in the summer to sign a free agent. I’m leaning towards a trade, but that’s just me. Raptors fans have complete faith in BC to make the right moves, and even though I haven’t been happy with a number of his deals/draft picks so far, the team has steadily improved since he came on board, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt.
They need a slashing/scoring wing and a big man who can rebound and at least alter shots. There weren’t any players available this year who fit that description, at least from the outside looking in. Next year they’ll have better financial flexibility to make deals, and hopefully a better record to entice players to want to play for them.
