Darko Has Issues

Today’s hoop blog in the Detroit Free Press from James Jahnke is kind of amazing. First it paints this sad picture of a mentally broken Darko Milicic:

The scenery changes, but the moping doesn’t seem to.

Memphis center Darko Milicic is again feeling down on himself, just like he did in Orlando and Detroit. He was averaging 6.8 points in 24.8 minutes per game, entering Tuesday.

“I have to get better, play better, do better,” Milicic told Reuters, which said he’s “considered the biggest-ever bust in NBA drafts.” “I’m trying, and I’m going to keep trying.

“If I’m not playing the way that I’m supposed to play, people have the right to say what they want. (The Grizzlies) gave me a chance. They gave me everything. They gave me time to play, they tell me to just shoot the ball and play your game. Now it is all on me.

“Now I’m losing my confidence, I don’t know why. There is a lot of stuff going on in my head. All the stuff that happened to me before has left some scars.”

Then there’s a section called “Everybody Hates Chris“:

Here’s another former Piston who seems to be struggling. Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote a rather harsh column about recent Warriors pickup Chris Webber. An excerpt:

“If this team has any chance of making the playoffs — or grabbing anyone’s attention if they get that far — Chris Webber can’t be part of the plans. … Webber’s old, his knees are creaky, he’s not in shape, and he won’t be in shape, OK? Get a grip on that. The Warriors can’t have one style (Webber starts, depression sets in, team falls behind by 12) and then another (a madcap scramble to get back into the game).”

Then it wraps up with loosely speculating that Isiah Thomas could potentially end up as the head coach at Indiana University. We can’t think of better person in charge of shaping young impressionable minds than Zeke.

How can Darko think he’s the biggest-ever bust in the draft when he is playing alongside Kwame?

Maybe that’s why the Griz traded for Kwame, they can start a support group for each other.
