The Cleveland Cavaliers appear to have beaten the NBA's annual trade buzzer to get LeBron James some of the fresh help he's been openly craving.

In a three-way trade with Chicago and Seattle that has been submitted for league approval, NBA front-office sources say that Cleveland will come away with four new teammates for James, headlined by Ben Wallace from the Bulls and sharpshooter Wally Szczerbiak from the Sonics.

The league office was notified of the deal before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trading deadline, sources said, and is currently reviewing the trade details as required for formal approval.

After Cleveland watched two longstanding trade targets land elsewhere -- Mike Bibby in Atlanta and Jason Kidd in Dallas -- sources say that the deal calls for the Cavaliers to receive Wallace, Szczerbiak, Seattle point guard Delonte West, Chicago's Joe Smith and a future second-round pick from the Bulls.

The Bulls, apparently abandoning their gamble on Wallace less than two seasons into the lucrative four-year deal they used to sign him away from Detroit, would get Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden and swingman Larry Hughes along with Cavs reserves Cedric Simmons and Shannon Brown.

The Sonics, shedding Szczerbiak in the name of additional payroll flexibility, come away with the expiring contracts of Cleveland's Ira Newble and Chicago's Adrian Griffin as well as Cavs veteran Donyell Marshall.

Marion Jones maybe but I can't see Mia letting dude go just now for real.

Kobeef you for real? Link us up homey. If Marion went to Cleveland that would be a tandem for real.

I would hate that for Wade though, cause who they gone give the Heat for Marion for real? Wade would just be on a team with some lame dudes.

I am hearing lots of news that Cleveland is looking at a blockbuster trade and that Marion is available.

Then again, I see what Celts is saying about the Pau trade. If only Simmons would focus more on REALISTIC trades that made sense, I could get behind him as a candidate more.

And by realistic, I don't mean that Simmons is proposing trades more ludicrous than the Pau trade; I mean that history has shown that few GMs are willing to shake up half of their team! I sat for a minute or two to figure out why, and I genuinely can't think of a good reason. If you have two mediocre teams that aren't really going anywhere, there's no reason NOT to do some of these trades. Some are better than others, obviously. All that having been said, though, it just doesn't happen very often. Can't explain it.

I agree with Dagwaller. Teams aren't going to make drastic changes at this time of the year. At the trade deadlines, teams look to tinker with their lineups, not overhaul them, especially playoff teams.

If any of his trades made sense, they would be done in the offseason.

There's so much BS in his logic, I don't even know where to start.

Interesting read at the very least. I agree some (most) of the trades are a stretch, but that's the point. We'd all be saying it was way too boring and predictable if he trotted out "Sam Cassell to Boston for a late #1" or even the Kurt Thomas trade that actually happened last night (which I hope burns the Suns in the Playoffs, if a legit title contender makes a salary/pick dump trade, they deserve to get that same guy traded to one of their rivals and have it bite them in the @$$ in the Playoffs.) This guy is made on being over the top. Funny thing is though, even though most of the trades look bad on paper, the explanations do kind of make sense even if you do disagree with the trades themselves (which I do on most.)

ALL OF THE TRADES make more sense than the Pau Gasol trade, so let's not dismiss them all as of yet.

As a guy that was firmly entrenched in the Chris Paul should be 1st overall camp 3 years ago (I'm sure most of you were too, it wasn't hard to see he'd be amazing) I'm behind him. SIMMONS GM '08 YES WE CAN!
