Who’s Clutch?
Photo. MannionThat’s the question posed on one of our Dime Network sites, 82Games.com. The 82Games crew defines “Clutch Stats” as stats compiled in the “4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points.”
Who’s the most clutch player in the L? You’re looking at him.
No. 2? We’re sure you could guess that it’s Kobe. But No. 3 on? Not as easy to peg as you might think.
Check it out HERE.
And then give a warm round of applause to Fabricio Oberto for apparently being the least-clutch guy in the NBA. Not an easy thing to do.

Faris in Tdot. says:
What’s worst, Oberto being the least-clutch guy in the NBA, or Shaq being the 3rd least?

Clutch? I like Chris Paul, I like Roy, as far as the youngs are concerned. When it comes to the vets, I really love Sam Cassell, I think Wade and Anthony are pretty sick…

Funny, I thought that Dirk and Yao weren’t clutch? Perception isn’t always reality. Ahead of Chauncey and Sam Cassell. Also, I wouldn’t worry too much about Oberto, Dime – Horry didn’t even make the list.

I love stats like this that prove how numbers can lie.
-No AI or Mr. Big Shot in the top 30.
-Durant in the top 5 based on takin and missin all his team’s shots with one buzzer beater, even Travis Outlaw got more buzzer beaters this season
fun stats but totally meaningless and I’d still take Kobe over Lebron

What’s interesting, sort the list by +/-, and the list goes like:
CLE James 32 157 109 +33
CLE Gibson 29 139 90 +31
CLE Ilgauskas 28 106 70 +32
DAL Terry 27 76 69 +44
CLE Da.Jones 22 65 63 +46
GSW Davis 31 120 59 +24
DAL Nowitzki 27 83 57 +33
GSW Jackson 26 103 55 +26
CLE Varejao 12 69 49 +34
SAC Miller 27 106 49 +22
CLE Gooden 22 79 47 +29
Very much dominated by Cleveland, and then by Golden State’s and Dallas’ two stars.

Ha, Scott, notice that Gooden’s at the bottom of that list, and no Larry Hughes…hmmm…

Tom says:
When you sort the list by scoring, it’s more “who’s jacking?” than “who’s clutch?” I mean, Redd and Gordon are shooting .382 in crunch time, but they’re both near the top of the list. It’s hard to call .382 clutch. Some of these jackers are probably doing more to hurt their teams than help them.

Tom’s damn right you knuckleheads…
Points without counting fg% basically means FG ATTEMPTS- and these DONT MEAN S*** – not that ‘brons numbers arent impressive nevertheless, but look at his attempts… 36.7 with 12.2 of these 3′s… thats with .483 for fg’s and .275 for 3s… 27,5%!! dont mean to say that ‘bron aint clutch, nobody has to work harder at the end of games then the king, but these stats really just mean he is all cleveland got… and that they are in some ways the most boring team on the planet to watch cause they have one play: the Zscreen-everybody knew-bron gets the ball face up at about halfcourt and is supposed to make smthg happen…

statistics are nice, but if i had to pick one guy to take over game for me, that would be kobe. sorry bron, but kobe is kobe

I love this thing…it mostly confirms what I always knew…Kendrick Perkins is the most money player in the world.

Kevin says:
The reason that cleveland is at the top when you organize it by +/- is that good players don’t play in garbage time if their team is up big. Since Cleveland is usually in tight games they’re more likely to have a larger +/-, especially since they get a bunch of come-back-from-behind wins all because of LeBron. Speaking of LeBron, it isn’t just his scoring either, he does it ALL in the clutch, wow!
Also notice BOSH is TOPS in FG% of the top twenty.

kowtz says:
How come when LBJ is jackin it’s “he’s all cleveland’s got”….
But if KB24′s jackin it’s “freakin ball hog”…
Robbert Horry not clutch?

eh says:
look, i don’t like kobe or lebron much, but is this even a contest? Kobe is the most clutch player in the game. easily. lebron isn’t even in my top 5. yeah hes hit some clutch shots, but hes missed many many more. look at the number of close games, hes had more chances than anyone else. plus, who is money at the line? Kobe. lebron can only guarantee you 1 out of 2. kobe knows the game better, at this point. hes a better shooter. they both can get any shot they want, but kobe knows how to get to where he wants on the floor and get the shot he wants. lebron either drives and tosses one up, or with no moves takes a pull up J from 19-23. i don’t care if your a lebron fan or not, this isn’t a contest.
