Is it really possible that this comic tragedy of season could culminate in a playoff berth for the Bulls? Things have been so crazy around this team that someone needs to write a book (if the beat writers are unavailable, we nominate Joakim Noah), and yet here it is six weeks away from the end of the regular season and Chicago is still alive for the postseason. Last night they knocked off the Jazz by double digits, with Ben Gordon playing like the kind of guy who actually could command big money this summer; sticking some timely threes and finishing with 19 points … And AK-47 was back for this one, so no excuses for the Jazz. They simply came out flat on the road and lost to a team they should have beaten … We know Carlos Boozer isn’t exactly KG on the defensive end, but taking 24 points from Drew Gooden? Not good. Jerry Sloan implied as much in the post-game: “They beat us with points in the paint,” Sloan said. “They drove down the middle. We got out of the way and let them shoot layups.” … In Jim Boylan’s media session he said the line that every Bulls fan would like to believe: “This is a basketball team, not a soap opera.” Whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy … This is when T.J. Ford is in his element: The late stages of a game in which his team is behind, just far enough that they’re not slowing the game down by fouling but still close enough to where they need to keep shooting. Throw in the fact that the #1 option on T.J.’s team is out injured and he’s in his personal Garden of Eden. That’s how it was against the Lakers, with Chris Bosh still resting the knee (Are the Raps fans worried at all?) and T.J. free to fire away. He ended up with 28 points in the loss, jacking 23 shots in 27 minutes off the bench. Ford did throw in 4 assists, for what it’s worth … How about the play late in the fourth when T.J. had it on the break and seriously tried to dunk on Kobe like he was the 6-7 one and Kobe was the sub-six-footer? You can guess how that turned out. Who does he think Kobe is, DJ Mbenga? … Kobe posted a healthy 34 points, 7 boards, 7 assists and 4 steals in the win … Tonight the Rockets go for 20 wins in a row in Atlanta. We’re predicting they get the W, but the x-factor will be Al Horford. He could very well punish the Rockets’ old/undersized front line. The Rockets have moved to #1 in our NBA Hit List power rankings, followed by four franchises who have combined for a bunch of championships — and then the Hornets. Check it out HERE … The scheduling fairy again gave the Grizzlies a raw deal. Really, have you noticed how many times this year the Grizz popped up on someone’s schedule who needed nothing more than an easy win? Last night Rudy Gay and Co. were in Phoenix, facing a Suns team that’s trying to build momentum from Sunday’s big win over the Spurs. So of course Amare (29 pts, 13 rebs), Grant Hill (17 pts, 7 rebs) and the rest took the opportunity to stomp Memphis out … We must say, we’re surprised Mike D’Antoni is giving Gordan Giricek this much playing time. He played 30 minutes off the bench and put up 18 points … Shaq had another play where he went careening toward the stands after a loose ball. Only this time he stopped himself before getting airborne, and everyone in that section of the crowd got the hell out of the way … Nick Young reminds us a lot of Gilbert Arenas; it’ll be interesting to see how they’ll work together in the same backcourt once Gil gets healthy (and assuming he doesn’t go somewhere else in free agency). Young scored 22 against the Bucks, getting into the lane by sheer force of will and converting some awkward-looking/tough layups and elevating for the occasional banger. Young caught Andrew Bogut one time pretty bad, but also got stuffed by Bogut on a play where he tried to crown him … LaMarcus Aldridge is a few days at the tattoo parlor and several late-night White Castle runs away from being Eddy Curry. Really, TWO rebounds last night against the Wolves? Scoring the ball (20 pts) is great, but you’ve gotta do better than that. Rebounds equal possessions and you can’t win games if you don’t have the ball. Not that it hurt the Blazers too much last night — they were playing the Wolves — but it’ll be an issue if they want to win a playoff series someday … We’re out like T.J.’s restraint …

Yeah Aldridge should be grabbing more boards than that but comparing him to eddie curry is just wrong. Luckily Oden will have his back next year.
The way the rockets have been ballin lately I don’t see horford alone making enough difference to beat them. Somebody else needs to step up for Atlanta if they’re going to end the streak.
The Bulls are my team but it will be very sad for the NBA if a dysfunctional team like them makes the playoffs. In fact its terrible that any sub .500 team makes the playoffs. I’m all about tradition but the League needs to really consider taking the 16 best records regardless of conference unless this years discrepancy is a fluke.

Is Drew Gooden the best player on the Bulls? As someone said above-I don’t get this team, but I would like to see them in the playoffs just to mock the Big Ben trade.
I hate watching TJ Ford play basketball. TJ and Mo Williams are the only players that cause me to stop watching the game. It is just too painful. I don’t know how a player who is supposed to be a good PG decides that taking Kobe one-on-one is a good play. This decision is about 100 times worse when you are under 6ft. Even Kobe laughed at TJ after the play. Just plain stupid. Maybe the PT and scoring will convice some team that he is worth trading for.

It’s ashame when you can sleep and get paid for 80% of the season(Bulls,Nets,Pacers,Bucks) and still be in the playoff hunt. East is terrible and King David need to come up with a new playoff format asap.
Nick Young is on the come up, he need to work on his handle, but he has all the tools to be a really good player in the L. When Gil come back they can be a decent tandem if he ever see the rock.

When the Wiz played the Raptors last week, Young threw down some filthy dunks where the Raps “defenders” looked shocked that he could get up like that. Dude was taking it to the hole with a purpose and looking to dunk, hopefully he keeps it up because Washington needs players with that kind of drive.
As for TJ, I have nothing left to say about that guy other than he needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and wake the fuck up. Is there something in the water in Milwaukee that turns PGs into low-bball-IQ jackers?

DunkOnME - Please don’t compare Andrew Bogut to the Kandi-Man, Kandiman is and always was useless. Bogut has become a pretty good NBA player. He’ll NEVER live up to being first overall over CP3 and Deron, and is probably destined to have a career just like Joe Smith’s - very productive, but still over-shadowed by being drafted about 5 spots too high, thus putting bigger expectations on him than simply the consistent 14 and 10 he’s putting up. Don’t know about All-Star next year, but he’s not a complete bust like the Kandi-Man, that’s just the perception based on the expectations that come w/ being first overall.

TJ Ford is really starting to piss me off. I don’t think Toronto has even come close to winning a game when he’s spraying and praying. He has to get it through his thick ass head, HE IS NOT IVERSON, HE WILL NEVER BE IVERSON, QUIT JACKING UP STUPID SHOTS. When he is on the court, all of Toronto’s shooters have lower shooting percentages. He pounds all the air out of the ball trying to get his shot, that when he is forced to pass the ball, there is like 1-2 seconds left on the shotclock and they have to jackup a quick shot.
Hopefully TJ falls on his head again, gets amnesia and reverts back to the player he was when Toronto got him…a very quick solid play making point guard.
March 12th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Dennis Castro says:
I think TJ sees the writing on the wall up in Toronto, so he figures he’s going to go for his. That could be real dangerous to a team that’s in the playoff hunt and looking to move past the first round.
I think you’ve got to blow that Bulls team up. Keep Noah, Thomas, Heinrich, Deng(if the money’s right), Duhon, and maybe Adrian Griffin for a veteran voice in the locker room.
I’m trying to think where Ben Gordon could play and play well. He’s ideal coming off the bench for about 25 mins a game and playing 4th quarters. So a team that needs bench help from the guard position. Any thoughts?
I’m curious to see how much of a factor drive and determination is tested when these guys are drafted. I mean we all know if you’re in the league you’ve got talent, and I swear if Lil Romeo makes the league I’m done, but it’s the willingness to put in the work and raise your game that takes players to that next level. Guys like Smush and Gerald Green have a ton of talent, just no drive to get better.

I like Noah (I hate Florida and have no opinion on the Bulls, so this is just how I see it, completely unbiansed.) He’s a hard worker and shares a passion for the game and winning w/ guys like AI and KG (not even in the same stratosphere talent-wise, so please don’t anyone think I’m comparing them w/ anything but heart) He’s the same kind of guy you’d have to drag off the court in a close game, the kind of guy that would dive for loose balls in the summer league, the kind of guy that would cry if they lost in the playoffs. You want those kind of guys on your team! Basically, he’s the exact opposite of Gerald Green. I think he’s the PERFECT replacement for Big Ben (but he still needs to cut that awful ponytail!)
also think that if Chicago blows it up, they should definitely keep Thabo Sefalosha. He’s versatile, can defend, and has enough of a handle he can play the point in spirts. He’s not a starter, but has enough talent that you should keep him on your bench. Also think it’s too early to give up on Hinrich and they absolutely shouldn’t trade him, especially after 4 solid years, you can’t hold one bad year against him when all this crap is tumbling down around him.
TJ Ford = Not that good. All you Raptor fans that were trying to claim TJ was a top 20 PG (I remember a few of you saying “We have 2 top 20 pgs,” a few months ago when that came up) should look at him now and realize he is just a bigger, slightly better version of Earl Boykins.

BREAKING NEWS:
Dipset member Juelz Santana was arrested near the entrance of his Teaneck, New Jersey home, after police found hollow point bullets and marijuana in his Bentley.
The rapper, born LaRon James, was arrested last week as he approached his home in the gated community of Glenpointe.
The arresting officer claimed he smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from Santana’s Bentley and upon further inspection, noticed several marijuana roaches, Dutch Masters and White Owl cigars.
After police learned the rapper was driving with a suspended license, they searched the vehicle and found 29 hollow point bullets wrapped in a sock, as well as $19,500 dollars in cash in a hidden plastic bag filled with “hundreds of Jolly Rancher candies.”
According to The New York Daily News, after being searched, police also found a rolled marijuana blunt in Santana’s sock.
Police also found a sandwich bag of marijuana in the police car where Juelz Santana had been sitting.
Representatives for Juelz Santana were not available as of press time.

mtv or bet
they still have music on them networks?
i thought it was stupid reality tv programs
rap music discussion has no place on this board, but with a name like jewelz santiago, i bet he sings reggaeton. and reggaeton should have no place on this earth
lets get back to bball gentlemen (and bitches for some of you)

Thanks for the breaking news on Juelz Santana. I imagine there about three people in the world that care.
And my point is that everyone sees the various articles out there. Posting them as though YOU did the research is garbage. I feel that if you are reposting other things that can be found elsewhere you are wasting peoples time.
For example, the Bobcats are 24 & 39. What do you think of that? I think it’s crazy. I did alot of research to discover this hidden gem and give you some b-ball insight!
The homophobia is amusing though…is your real name Tim Hardaway? You know sometimes they say the thing you fear the most is what you secretly are.

Basketball connection: Juelz Santana was the MC on the track from the Nike “Second Coming” commercial.
I had no idea his name was LaRon James.

GEE...my style is a style that's not a style says:
Juelz is nice, probably best out the group depending on the style you like.
Anyway I think he has been known to do some celebrity basketball joints too. Heard his game was decent, not spectacular.
I’d say just off hand about 4 to 5 rappers get quoted in post everyday round here.
B-Ball and hip hop are just meant to be.

YAll, we’ve finally reached something we can agree on. Juelz is garbage. I know who he is, but he’s a nobody to me anyway.
and there’s no way in hell if you switched Bynum and Bogut that the Bucks get worse from that. Bogut plays no D, Bynum plays real good D, and Bynum rebounds and scores better, AND still has room to improve. I’ll give you that RIGHT NOW, they’re relatively close on the offensive end, but again, Bynum’s still developing, Bogut’s about what he’s going to be.

at least tj had the BALLS to even try to dunk on kobe. K-Dizzle said it all in his post…..All you TJ Ford haters need to stop chugging down tha haterade…What is he supposed to do not score when no one else is scoring…. half the squad is still adjusting on how to play with him because hes been out with injuries.Hes still young and has a good chance to be one of the better point guards in the league for years to come

Ian says:
before laker fans come back to me
with the bynum stuff
i said NOW not next season
but shit celts fan i dont see bogut being bad on D
March 12th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Celts Fan says:
I don’t see how Bogut is better (and I defended him earlier today, so it’s not like I don’t respect his game) but Bynum’s emergence was the reason the Lakers were doinga s well as they were before Pau, and he plays better D and the rest of his numbers are about the same, so: their scoring and boards are about even, Bynum plays better D, and Bynum’s on the better team. I openly said you can’t call Bogut a bust (he’s very solid), but he’s not better than Bynum.
March 12th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Celts Fan says:
fine Ian, but do you see Bogut being good on D? Cuz Bynum is.

Like Austin said in the “Pick your Poison” topic today, there’s such a thing as “culture of losing”. Does anyone think that the Milwualkee team simply has a culture of losing surrounding it? Due to whatever combination of coaches, players, management you like. Either way, I like/respect Bogut and wonder if he’d be better on a better team (since he’s kind of like a playmaking center).

GayforRudy says:
Ian,
If you read the comments on ESPN you’ll see what people think about it. I was thinking that I don’t “get” the point of reposting it here. Is this the hub for great basketball minds? Do you want all of your little friends on the ‘Smack’ board to thank you for pointing out the great ESPN list to them that they already read?

switchin topics and I know i got no love for the man, but if this Rockets streak keeps goin (which will end when Kobe comes to town) but if it keeps goin, how long before T-Mac gets into the MVP convo?

Back to TJ for a sec….. I was just messin around on NBA.com and compared TJ’s numbers to another fellow PG that I don’t think is that nice. Kirk Hinrick
TJ Kirk
PPG 12.2 PPG 12.5
RPG 2.3 RPG 3.5
APG 5.8 APG 6.0
SPG 1.0 SPG 1.1
FG% 0.448 FG% 0.415
FT% 0.886 FT% 0.869
3P% 0.265 3P% 0.340
MPG 22.8 MPG 32.7
Besides the 3pt fg% they about the same and TJ plays 10 minutes less per game.
I think we may be a little too hard on TJ, but I think part of that is because if he did the right things sky is the limit with him. True enuff that he is no superstar b/c of his size, but with the right attitude he could be a really good PG in the L.

Yea, only Hinrich is legit having a terrible season on a terrible team.
T-Mac deserves some headlines for MVP, but I’d just feel weird giving it to him. Can’t put my finger on why.
