Sir Charles and Bounce’s Bobbito GarciaStar-Telegram writer Jan Hubbard got up with Charles Barkley yesterday in Dallas to talk about Dirk, the Jason Kidd trade, the state of the game and the Mavs chances this year.
Our favorite part of the interview was what he had to say about MJ:
“We’ve been giving Michael a hard time,” Barkley told a crowd at the SMU Athletic Forum lunch at the Hilton Anatole on Wednesday. “He just got a divorce [and it was like] damn, bro’, you wrote a check for $175 million? Are you kidding me? You must have some damn money. If you can write a check for $175 million, you’re damn loaded.”
Barkley went on to say that “sports is definitely not the place to be sensitive, no matter what it is. We’re going to ride you unmercifully and we told him, ‘It’s probably bad to write a check for $175 million, but it’s going to get worse. When you go visit your kids, there’s going to be a guy sitting in your chair, wearing your robe, smoking a cigar.”
The crowd erupted in laughter, but Barkley still had one more zinger for Jordan, saying: “You better hope it ain’t one of us. You better hope it ain’t one of your boys. We’re all looking for a woman with $175 million.”

I love listening to Barkley. He’s one of the only honest commentators out there, who doesn’t try to soften his criticism of players and has the credentials to back it up. But at the same time, he manages to not come across as just some loud jacka$$ like Steven A Smith.

For real I am telling you Barkley would make the funniest coach. He would be getting techs out the @$#! He would be calling his players out, calling opposing coaches out and everyone!
Barkley will call his own boss out! I really hope one day he tries to coach, you talking about a rating boost for real!

Either that or they should give dude his own reality show with like, so low draft pick big men that need to work out to improve their game. Of course they all got to live in one spot and Barkley their coach for the show.
You know Barkley would be on some:
“See, that right there is probably why you won’t get drafted”
“You just plain suck!”
“Do I have to do the rest of this show”
“To all the teams out there, please don’t pick this guy”
A lot of shows missing out on getting Barkley on.
