Mission Impossible?

A Sporting News story yesterday painted Davidson’s Stephen Curry as virtually impossible to stop:

As the Hoyas’ season was slipping through their fingers, Curry rose up for a 3 while still facing the scorer’s table, 23 feet from the hoop, twisted and swished it—with Georgetown’s Chris Wright so close the wrist snap caught him on the forehead. At least four Georgetown players took a turn guarding Curry man-to-man, and throughout the game the team switched immediately on screens for him while also mixing in some zone looks. “It was hard to stop him,” guard Jessie Sapp says, “but we tried.”

Those words should send a shiver up the spines of the Wisconsin Badgers, who, like the Hoyas, are accustomed to winning with defense; they face Curry next in the Sweet 16.

Curry shoots fast, shoots soft and is one of those never-stop-moving guys in the mold of Rip Hamilton. He’s also quick, a good ballhandler and even a strong finisher around the hoop.

If there was ever a team that could lock up Curry and make him a non-factor, it’s Wisconsin tonight. They have a phenomenal defensive coach in Bo Ryan, a great mix of athletic perimeter defenders in Travon Hughes and Michael Flowers to blanket him while he’s running through never-ending screens, and they have a wall of bigs in the middle to funnel Curry into when closing out on threes. And they’re arguably the best defensive team in the country.

But then again, G’Town basically had all of the same attributes listed above.

What do you think Curry will do tonight? Will there be another Davidson upset?

the magic has to end sometime right?

i see it happening now since there will be so much focus on him that other guys will have opportunities since the entire defense will be designed to stop one man. but it will be grind it out game if davidson pulls the upset.

Archambault drops 20+ while the D focuses on Curry (who still drops a handful of 3’s)
