Not Cool, Shaq

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONPhoto. Chenoa Maxwell

There’s a story on ESPN.com this morning about how Pat Riley is bothered by Shaq’s repeated bashing of the Miami Heat players and organization in the media. Normally, we wouldn’t pay Shaq’s comments a whole lot of mind because it’s usually Shaq just being Shaq, right? And usually his comments are pretty entertaining.

The latest from the Diesel though? Not so cool. In a Boston Globe story from yesterday, he was quoted as saying this:

“I love playing for this coach and I love playing with these guys,” O’Neal told the Globe. “We have professionals who know what to do. No one is asking me to play with Chris Quinn or Ricky Davis. I’m actually on a team again.”

After Phoenix’s loss to Boston, O’Neal elaborated, saying that defenses would sag off of Quinn and Davis and he wasn’t able to get the ball. Of Riley’s comments, O’Neal said colorfully, “I don’t [care] how he interpreted it.”

Reminded that reporters couldn’t use the quote because of the expletive, he said, “Sure you can. You can quote me, brother. You can put an ’s,’ then the tic-tac-toe, the ‘at’ sign and then the other symbols.”

Now ripping Ricky Buckets is one thing - the dude has written his own ticket out of no less than four NBA teams and has played his own significant role in the Miami mess this season. But Chris Quinn? Dude is trying to hang on in the League.

Chris Quinn is SO totally gonna cry when he reads this

  2. DaPro says:

This is pretty low for Shaq. Shaq should appreciate the fact that he was traded 2 a contender. Riley isn’t my favorite dude but he took the high road on this one.

  3. flo rida evans says:

I’m personally asking Shaq to play with Mike Penberthy.Again.

  4. rangerjohn says:

the more shaq runs his mouth the less respect i have for the guy.

i always liked shaq but i think his devorce maybe is getting in his head?

  5. word says:

It’s funny because the other day shaq said that he was happy he got a call from the suns because he thought his career was over, and he is glad it wasn’t. He really hated it there lol, but we all knew he wasn’t really injured.

Is is Chris Quinn’s fault that he has somehow survived in a league full of guys ore skilled and talented than him. I respect Quinn just for holding on to a job for so long in the NBA dream. He can knck dw the open shots as well. He reminds me a little f Matt Maloney. Shaq shouldn’t have called him and Davis out, that’s just ignorant. Chris Quinn, don’t ever give up!

Yes, he is a great person off the court and used to be a monster on it. Great for the league…BUT….

Shaq always praises his new team and bashes the old team, burning every bridge in the process. I wonder what team he’ll be in the HOF.

I’d love to hear the response from Miami’s players: “I had to play on a team where we couldn’t spend on better free agents because some big fat guy who refused to give any effort ate up all the contract money.”

Saint Shaq needs to look at his effect on teams too. He’s not exactly the selfless all-team guy that he wants people to think he is.

This man is the biggest front runner in the league. I hate it when other plays jump on his banwagon and praise about what a great guy he is. Yeah he’s great alright. Talking trash about Quinn a guy who works hard and gets the most out of his talent. Shaq’s a big baby that’s all he is. He hated on Penny. He hated on Kobe. He hated on Riles. And soon he’ll hate on D-wade too, just watch. And when Phoenix gets bumped in the first round and Shaq finds himself without a team next year he’ll hate on Nash and the entire Suns organization. He is such a bullshitter this guy, really.

The Last Don strikes again! LOL

No Class. I have to agree with Riley even though he is trippin going on a “scouting” trip. Shaq should just shuddup and concentrate on playing where he is. Cause as good as they are, the Suns are still not a lock to hit the finals. When you factor in foul trouble, free throws, lack of defense….they are certainly not a lock.

I think I got 1 to 2 more years of Shaq left in me before I am ready for him to bow out, and hopefully he can at least do that gracefully!

  14. Jackass says:

If you watch Shaq playing it’s just sad right now. He can’t do nothing, he is like an old horse that wants to race so bad, but he can’t. He is psychologically pissed off at the world inside. Every time shaq sits down, suns make a huge run, or display a great amount of pure suns style basketball, and every time this happens, shaq is bothered and ashamed by this. Cause he is just a negro, that used to everything coming so easy to him. And the only thing that’s keeping us from forgetting the dumb big monkey is his mouth. And Shaq knows it.

  15. BxBaller says:

Why wasn’t Shaq talkin that mess when he was collecting all those DNPs & his huge ass check in Miami. That was totally uncalled for calling out Quinn & Ricky Buckets. It’s funny though, cause he fits perfectly on a team that is known for being a bunch of crybabies. I really hope Phx gets knocked out in the 1st round, lets see what Shaq will have to say then.

  16. DS says:

It’s the same ‘ol thing he did in L.A. with Jerry Buss and Kobe. Everybody jumping on his bandwagon “cause he had been so wronged. But he refused to have toe surgery until time for training camp and then called out J. Buss in public with “Pay me my money!!” He wont change…he just trying to hold on to what he was in earler years.

  17. fatty says:

The Big Aristotle needs to become the Big Socrates and drink some hemlock & shut the fuck up. in some ways i like shaq, i think he can be funny but thats just cold. how is a hall of famer gonna blame a struggling team that he anchored on secondary players? Besides shaqs so dumb, everyone knows that the heats struggles fall solely upon Mark Blount.

    @ Prof Tx.

Totally agree - I’d like to hear what all the players in the league who make less than $20 million a year think about Shaq slacking off after the championship and still getting paid more per game than some players make in a year.

  19. daQuEsT?oN says:

shaq is right.. miami is a mess and i think shaq has earned the right to say whatever he wants.

  20. Dennis Castro says:

ahahahaah, The Big Aristotle has become The Big Bastard….That line killed me.

  21. Dave says:

Shaq has a point, if there isn’t someone else on the team that requires some defense he’s not as productive…..just like any superstar needs help, so does Shaq. Ricky Davis is a punk, he should be called out, but there must be something we dont’ know about Quinn.

Shaq is one of the classiest players to play the game and if you want to compare his on-court and off-court personas they are much stronger than 95% of the NBA thugs. (see Denver Nuggets)

anyone who will has the choice to do anything with his time and money and chooses to volunteer to help the community in various ways deserves some respect.

Actions always speak louder than words.

I don’t see how u can go around dissing on a guy nicknamed Quinny that’s just low altho im alright with dissing ricky buckets

  24. doc says:

Ricky Buckets be gunning and Quinn stinks so its cool. And how is Denver 95 percent thugs what is a thug.

  25. kowtz says:

Shaq said before that He can win without a KB24… but KB24 cannot win without a SHAQ… looks like they both needed each other…

Also now you know how much bull he has… does anybody still believe it was all KB24’s fault for the dibanding of the 00-02 lakers????

What happens when the suns don’t win a chip this year? or next year? will Nash suddenly become a speedy PG without D in shaq’a eyes? and Stat just becoming a jumping man with no skills?

    Check Rile’s Comments:
“He wanted to go to a contender and we sent him there. We sent him to Utopia and we’re left here with the carnage and I don’t know why he’s not happy.”

He got what he wanted… And his x-teamates are grinding out the humiliation, derpeesion, and NBA Hell… And he still bashes on them?????

Very very very admirable of the big aristotle…

  26. Dame says:

More signs of his decline . There was a time when you could put shaq out there with quinn, davis and 2 stiffs and you would have a chance because of shaqs size and talent. Noe all he has left is his size and contract he cant carry guys like Quinn to a win -

hes gets paid really well tho…….

  27. QQ says:

For years, I’ve been telling my mates how crap Shaq is in terms of being classy and in terms of personal relations. For years, they’ve been telling me it’s just his ‘personality’, that he’s a fun guy that like to joke around.

Now tell me homies, is THIS still part of the personality? Talking junk to the organization that gave him a championship amidst the silly feud with Kobe (who is fucking better that you, Shaq)? Is this part of the jokes?

    You’re a fucking twat Shaq.

  28. big sour grapes says:

“I think it is very unfortunate anytime a player leaves a team and sees fit to trash former teammates, I am also always puzzled when a great player takes up a large part of the salary cap and then complains about the talent around him.” -stan van gundy
